It's probably chain snap because the rear derailleur went into full flex(contraction) before his ankle hyper plantar flexed and he fell down. This only happens because the chain tension is lost.

It happened to Rafal Majka last year under load while he was climbing (stage 16 TDF) and he had to drop the race because of that. The motivation for my OP was remembering back as a teenager to a fall at San Onofre while riding the downhill path to the beach on a mountain bike with my short board in hand. Literally, in surf trunks, so it was like a cheese grader all over my body. Of course, I'd like to have been wearing the gear in this clip, but in trunks, even this nice fall would have been awful. One of the worst bike incidences I can remember tho 🤦

It may be that the bike was broken, or his legs were cramped, or his feet were suddenly stuck by the pedals.

I took them turning away in a different way. I took it as them being gracious and looking the other way so the fan could experience as little humiliation as possible.
Chainsnap while putting the watts down is no joke. Makes u loose hella control when ur pedaling downand trying to lean to make more power go down. I had a crash like this happen similar to mine. The only difference is I fell over the bars and chipped my tooth. This was on a bmx though but can still happen on any bike. The way to prevent this is by making sure your derailleurs limit screws are set correctly and to make sure than any of the chain links don't have the pin going one side more than the other. Be safe peeps

Fell exactly like this on my BMX today. The thing that sucks most is that the moment you shift wrong with your pedalling, you increase the momentum you throw yourself into the ground with 😅 every joint on the right side of my body is aching haha
Ankles buckled due to his pedal becoming unclipped with his backpack and all his weight on the front wheel while turning slightly it unloaded the tire and induced an irrecoverable slide as the front tire slid out and away from his vector.
Sliding falls often are quite graceful and gentle looking. Because he was moving forward somewhat rapidly his ground impact didn't look significant either, probably felt significant.

Helmet, please, people! Even casual riding. I never wore one until I saw a guy in our group stop next to a curb and trip on it as he was putting his foot down. He struck the right side of his head, not too hard I thought, and he was conscious but seemed literally completely drunk for about half an hour. I bought a helmet that day, beautiful hair be damned. Riding is too good to not be able to do it anymore.

Helmet, please, people! Even casual riding. I never wore one until I saw a guy in our group stop next to a curb and trip on it as he was putting his foot down. He struck the right side of his head, not too hard I thought, and he was conscious but seemed literally completely drunk for about half an hour. I bought a helmet that day, beautiful hair be damned. Riding is too good to not be able to do it anymore.
