The main reason it's barebones at the moment is because they're planning on rolling out their online suite over the summer alongside Splatoon 2, AFAIK.
I don't usually complain about the score but this will be a exception. It deserves a 10/10. It fixed almost everything from the Wii u version. plus you got more karts, characters, maps, modes features etc. the only thing it lacks is communications like they said. but that flimsy little con is overshadowed by everything else

I’m a PS4 gamer just bought my Nintendo Switch on Saturday July, 22, 2017 with Zelda, Mario Kart, and Splatoon 2 and don’t regret it. Been offline from my PS4 the last 3 days almost lol. Loving this system ! I was skeptical on buying it but glad I bought it. Everyone if you don’t have one and see one in stock buy it ASAP, oh and buy a 10$ screen protector.

It's always amazing that Nintendo come up with games that don't have fancy graphics, yet super fun and addictive. Meanwhile, other triple-A games are slowly becoming more and more homogeneous yet losing their fun factors.
At this point in time graphics look so good that buying a console (Xbox Scorpio) for the improved graphics is pointless to me, that's why I like the switch. They are not raising the price of the console to make it more powerful when games already look SO good on it. Props to Nintnedo for working on innovation rather than pointless (to me) graphical improvements.

Not my problem. If you want to chat with your friends, you have to use your laptop/PC and get Skype. It's what you do. If you want to save 15% or more on your damage control, you switch to using common sense. It's what you do.

As someone who owns both xbox one and the switch I can say that I absolutely love my switch and am very impressed. I like my xbox ok, but the interface is so bad and the software is so slow its hard to appreciate the console. The switch doesn't have any of those issues and might be my favorite console interface ever. Its simple and is very visually appealing. The graphics aren't like ps4 and xb1, but nintendo has always had more cartoony animated graphics which i am also a huge fan of and the first party support for the switch already is unreal. I grew up on gamecube and 360 so I learned to appreciate both for what they are and I have to say the switch is a very solid device and def. lives up to the name.
I mean, there are lots of great third party developers ,however Nintendo have always made the best games and Sony, have always backed great developers such as naughty dog.
My Xbox One has great internet in my room, but my nintendo Switch right next to it doesn't connect unless I go downstairs to the router. Guess I gotta play online handheld only

I have a legit question for fans of mk8. Are you not bothered by the option to have the screen split horizontally in local multiplayer ? I bought mk8 on the Wii U and I wanted to relive the days of local multiplayer races. Unfortunately, multiple is split vertically. For a racing game, you need to see as much of the track as possible to make the turns. I was just so upset that they chose that format and didn't even give you the option to change it. No review of this game even mentions it. Does everybody not play local multiplayer anymore? Everything else is great but this is such a big design flaw for me
it has all of the DLC, new characters and an improved Battle Mode if you want new content wait for Mario Kart 9, this is just to bridge the gap to keep fans entertained in the meantime
Pretty much all it's missing is a few more characters (there's way too many clones and babies) and there should've been at least 2 new cups. But for those who haven't owned the original Wii U game, this is a fantastic deal

I have the mario kart 8 and now I got the mario kart 8 deluxe. I got it mainly because I like that I can go places and still play it if I was over at my moms friends house bored to death or going on vacation. I love the new characters. The only thing I wish they did was add new racing courses since i'm not much of a battle mode fan. I probably will try it though eventually.

Xenoblade 2 will be the greatest JRPG of all time and only available on the Nintendo Switch. Yesterday I was playing voodoo vince remastered on my cousin's XB1 it's a very good game highly recommend to true gamers. During that time I was thinking about how great Mario Oddessy is going to be.

Sony hasn't denied Crash Bandicoot remastered being on other platforms including XB1 and Steam. Nintendo Switch is the only console with true exclusives. Both XB1 and ps4 games are available on PC with Play Anywhere and PSNow streaming.
Last of Us 2 probably until 2019 or 2020 as a ps5 launch title. Detroit WTF? Crash Bandicoot remastered timed exclusive Only Lost Legacy and Grand Turismo are launching this year. But Lost Legacy isn't a true game only extra DLC similar to DR4 Frank Rising DLC.
Nintendo doesn't want to toughen up just yet. Also, there was never a time where I really used voice chat to communicate with my friends. I get where he's coming from, but I don't really see voice chat as a option, especially when you're just playing VS races.
+Felix ! Yeah, I actually thought it was going to be a mad Katz style controller situation, but surprisingly they joycon grip controller feels good. D pad could've been a bit better, but they needed to mirror the feel of face buttons on both joy cons as well as they could. This is my new favorite system, and my poor xbone, PS4, and vita are collecting dust. Lol
It's true, Switch should have worked harder to give users a great online experience in which you can invite friends to games. But that doesn't mean it's Mario kart's fault. I'd give it 9.5 because of the added features you didn't mention like the two items, golden mario,and new tracks. Even though not being able to invite players takes away from the experience, inviting friends over and playing in LAN is much more fun.
Nintendo thinks that you'll be eager to play this game for another 3-6 years. Like the world is frozen and there are only Nintendo games in the market=)

This should be at least an 8...9.3 is kinda high considering its the exact same game as the wii u version but with a few extra modes but the thing is we all know most of us will just race anyway. Having everything unlocked except vehicle parts is a real let down for me personally because i really liked the aspect of unlocking things from just playing the game. Not to mention no voice chat and the ability to invite friends is ridiculous because it was an issue in the wii u version too and really should have been looked into.

Michaeldragon800 well as i said its a personal issue, not something thats bad. Everything is unlocked except parts meaning also all the tracks. Since the switch is also handheld, it means you are mostly gonna be offline and playing singleplayer. But part of the fun of singleplayer was playing through the grand prix and unlocking all the cups. if you're going to be playing singleplayer theres really no point at all. Thats the flaw im getting at with everything being unlocked
Man I'm on the verge of purchasing a Switch but every time I'm about to drop the cash I back out purely because the games on offer just aren't diverse :/ Is there any info on a possible Metroid or Starfox? F-Zero or Castlevania? I want to play Zelda:BoW & Mario Kart 8 so much but two games for a £250 console is just not worth it yet. Or better yet a Pokemon game like Moon etc but on Switch? Also is there a Store to buy Monster Hunter games for my Switch? Could trade in my Xbox One to soften the blow, exclusives seem pretty piss poor for two years running now. I guess the wise choice would be to wait for E3 this year then dive in.
Reggie has hinted at Metroid for E3, Smash has also been very much hinted at. I would advice you to wait for E3 before you buy. Monster Hunter and Pokemon as both been rumoured. Developers of Pokemon has pretty much said they are making a game of the Nintendo Switch.
As an 11 year old kid, I don't care about frame rate, graphics etc. but this is just stupid, you're giving a game a higher rating than the original when they're not even much feutures
You can invite friends to play in private rooms, I believe, but unfortunately you can't invite them in worldwide online. So it's not completely missing but it's still kind of a shame.
Don't get me wrong i own the wii u version and mario kart 8 is a fantastic game and really does deserve a 9 but honestly. The deluxe version shouldn't exist. It's a lazy attempt at a cash grab. Barely anything was even changed. It isnt worth buying switch for slightly better colors, 3 new characters that don't add anything and 2 game modes that you'll end up playing like 5 times. Very dissapointing i would have personally lowered the rating for the laziness.

Splatoon characters, Link, the villager and especially pink gold peach are cancerous inclusions to the series. This isn't smash and these characters take slots from characters that we actually want. It's so frustrating that Nintendo don't see that the fan base want relevant characters and not these scrapes

As someone who owns both xbox one and the switch I can say that I absolutely love my switch and am very impressed. I like my xbox ok, but the interface is so bad and the software is so slow its hard to appreciate the console. The switch doesn't have any of those issues and might be my favorite console interface ever. Its simple and is very visually appealing. The graphics aren't like ps4 and xb1, but nintendo has always had more cartoony animated graphics which i am also a huge fan of and the first party support for the switch already is unreal. I grew up on gamecube and 360 so I learned to appreciate both for what they are and I have to say the switch is a very solid device and def. lives up to the name.

I have a legit question for fans of mk8. Are you not bothered by the option to have the screen split horizontally in local multiplayer ? I bought mk8 on the Wii U and I wanted to relive the days of local multiplayer races. Unfortunately, multiple is split vertically. For a racing game, you need to see as much of the track as possible to make the turns. I was just so upset that they chose that format and didn't even give you the option to change it. No review of this game even mentions it. Does everybody not play local multiplayer anymore? Everything else is great but this is such a big design flaw for me

Pretty much all it's missing is a few more characters (there's way too many clones and babies) and there should've been at least 2 new cups. But for those who haven't owned the original Wii U game, this is a fantastic deal

I have the mario kart 8 and now I got the mario kart 8 deluxe. I got it mainly because I like that I can go places and still play it if I was over at my moms friends house bored to death or going on vacation. I love the new characters. The only thing I wish they did was add new racing courses since i'm not much of a battle mode fan. I probably will try it though eventually.

Nintendo Switch is the only console with true exclusives. Both XB1 and ps4 games are available on PC with Play Anywhere and PSNow streaming.

Nintendo doesn't want to toughen up just yet. Also, there was never a time where I really used voice chat to communicate with my friends. I get where he's coming from, but I don't really see voice chat as a option, especially when you're just playing VS races.

D pad could've been a bit better, but they needed to mirror the feel of face buttons on both joy cons as well as they could. This is my new favorite system, and my poor xbone, PS4, and vita are collecting dust. Lol

It's true, Switch should have worked harder to give users a great online experience in which you can invite friends to games. But that doesn't mean it's Mario kart's fault. I'd give it 9.5 because of the added features you didn't mention like the two items, golden mario,and new tracks. Even though not being able to invite players takes away from the experience, inviting friends over and playing in LAN is much more fun.

This should be at least an 8...9.3 is kinda high considering its the exact same game as the wii u version but with a few extra modes but the thing is we all know most of us will just race anyway. Having everything unlocked except vehicle parts is a real let down for me personally because i really liked the aspect of unlocking things from just playing the game. Not to mention no voice chat and the ability to invite friends is ridiculous because it was an issue in the wii u version too and really should have been looked into.

Michaeldragon800 well as i said its a personal issue, not something thats bad. Everything is unlocked except parts meaning also all the tracks. Since the switch is also handheld, it means you are mostly gonna be offline and playing singleplayer. But part of the fun of singleplayer was playing through the grand prix and unlocking all the cups. if you're going to be playing singleplayer theres really no point at all. Thats the flaw im getting at with everything being unlocked

You can invite friends to play in private rooms, I believe, but unfortunately you can't invite them in worldwide online. So it's not completely missing but it's still kind of a shame.
Don't get me wrong i own the wii u version and mario kart 8 is a fantastic game and really does deserve a 9 but honestly. The deluxe version shouldn't exist. It's a lazy attempt at a cash grab. Barely anything was even changed. It isnt worth buying switch for slightly better colors, 3 new characters that don't add anything and 2 game modes that you'll end up playing like 5 times. Very dissapointing i would have personally lowered the rating for the laziness.

Splatoon characters, Link, the villager and especially pink gold peach are cancerous inclusions to the series. This isn't smash and these characters take slots from characters that we actually want. It's so frustrating that Nintendo don't see that the fan base want relevant characters and not these scrapes

You know how 2 player split screen divides the tv in half hamburger style? Would you happen to know how to switch it to hot dog style? It's really hard to play split screen with it the way it is, I understand they have to do that on the go, but when it's docked it'd be nice
