  • Some things are bigger than hockey. Before the start of tonights Pittsburgh Penguins vs Washington Capitals game, Alex Ovechkin came up to Kris Letang during warmups in a nice moment. Letang has had a rough stretch lately suffering his 2nd stroke in his NHL career, coming back just to get injured meanwhile his father unfortunately passed away. So to see two bitter rivals of teams show this kind of compassion, is just great and you absolutely love to see it. The game was a great one that saw Ovechkin score the one timer in the fashion we've seen so many times. Plenty of action both ways but it led to a shootout. I cover it all in todays NHL hockey highlights video!

    Ovechkin has always been known as a very empathetic, compassionate and classy guy off the ice. There was another situation very similar to this where his compassion was shown when he gave his condolances to Brian Burke about Burke's son's death. Ovechkin never played for Burke, but he saw him pass by the dressing room and called out to him. He put his arm around Burke's shoulder and said "I am so sorry about your son". If that's not compassionate, then I don't know what is.

INCREDIBLE how many goals Ovechkin has scored from that position even with the opposition KNOWING the shot is coming. IMO he is the best pure goal scorer the world has seen so far. Next season or early into the following season he will break THE GREAT ONES goal total. I, for one, for the longest time, NEVER BELIEVED that 894 goals in regular season would be eclipsed. I LOVE SIDNEY’S game and his approach. He is the best TWO-WAY PLAYER, EVER, IMO. Overall, it has been GREAT TO WITNESS THESE 2 CONSUMMATE OVERACHIEVERS !

    Kris Letang's career is tragic, although amazing.
    First he lost his closest friend, Luc Bourdon, when he barely had his place in the NHL cemented.
    Then his 1st stroke. Following years with injuries. Then his second stroke and lower body injury. And the death of his father.
    He is indeed persistant at least. He still goes on.

      I have never cared for the Pens (goes back to Mario days) but have always liked Letang. Very cool of Ovie but not surprising. I doubt there are many hockey fans that wouldn't want Alex wearing their favorite team's jersey.

    Ovi is pretty class. Everybody doesn’t talk about him like a real leader, but between this and Bergeron checking on Thompson’s SO, you see real leadership there. Goes beyond the game, and beyond your team.

      Kids don't need to play hockey for class. Junior hockey is much more likely to leave your kids with a serious lack of class.

    • @cdotrangers4471
      @cdotrangers4471 Год назад +2

      Yeah im a former AAA player and let me say putting your kid in hockey isn't automatically going to fill them with class. It actually might do the complete opposite. Theres racisms in locker rooms etc you just dont hear about it but as a player trust me it exists along with other gnarly bad qualities. Theres just as much toxicity in hockey as any other sport.

    • @cdotrangers4471
      @cdotrangers4471 Год назад +1

      Also, if you're going to enroll your kids in hockey then you should be expecting lots of injuries ranging from not so severe to pretty severe. it happens, it happened to me lots. hockey is a fast paced extremely physical sport.

    Those career points you highlighted for Crosby and Ovie are absolutely RIDICULOUS.
    What I didn't realize... was Ovie having played almost 200 games more than Sid..?!? And even with that they're practically tied in career points.
    👏👏👏👏... for Crosby
    THEN you look at the GOALS total in that span....
    👏👏👏👏... for Ovie.
    Ngl, I feel lucky to have lived and witnessed LIVE the incredible rivalry between these two Legends and their Teams.
    And What makes this rivalry one of the Best in NHL history, is the fact that both Captains have remained with their respective teams for their entire "First ballot HOF" careers.
    ( and let's be honest here, they'll both retire wearing the only jersey they've ever known. ) LEGENDS.
    * if you're still reading this ⏳⏳⌛ I apologize, but just wanted to add... that I too am a diehard Pens fan but even with that... I gotta admit that when Ovie and the Caps finally won it ALL and got to hoist Lord Stanley, it genuinely felt RIGHT. It just makes Ovie's incredible career so much more memorable knowing he's been a Champion. Nothing but Respect for that guy, even though he's teed off on my team's netminders for years.
    Cheers mate...👍👍

    Ovi is nothing but "class", he has never forgotten where he came from. I keep waiting for that ESPN commercial with a phone, office chair and desk at the top of the right circle, with pucks flying around and defenders looking at the desk trying to check the waste basket and desk. Then a puck knocks over his coffee and he looks over to a confused Backstrom and says, "cmon man, that's the second time today, and where are those scouting reports I asked for?!"
