This idiot system of justice in the UK, is under The commonwealth system of other European countries. The system of justice is weak and no match to that of the United States, where the laws are more strict and server, especially in capital punishment cases.( Murder and other high profile crimes)

A mass murderer released after 15 years?... that is severe negligence and incompetence of the UK justice system right there. How dare they put the public in danger from this maniac! Not only did they release a highly dangerous man, but they actually lost track of him and didn't even know that he had a name change. I feel so sorry for the surviving victim Jill and for the Smith family who were also victims. They'll probably need therapy for a while to try and deal with the PTSD caused by him. smh.

It is worse in the USA as the crazies become renegade and homeless and can strike out at people wherever they camp! Las Vegas Nevada and San Francisco CA and Los Angeles CA are full of these types.

Dude was probably having auditory hallucinations and thought it was coming from the neighbors. And probably heard voices telling him to go kill them to shut them up.
Mentally ill or not, people who commit one murder, much less five, should never be released back into society. I hope the doctors who released him from Broadmoor know what he did, and almost did, to this family.
What I really want to know is: why was he not closely monitored after his release??
When police are called to intervene in a dispute, they should do quick background checks on the parties involved to see what they’re dealing with. Perhaps if they had done a bit of searching, they would have known who this man was the first time he called the police. They could have saved this family a year of torment by recognizing this man and the possibility of a repeat massacre.
If I were the family, I’d be tempted to sue the police!!

I suspect prejudice plays a role. Barry/Harry lived with his parents at the first time, I suppose they were somewhat elderly so when he started to harass the first family the police may have realised the neighbours was not noisy but thought that Barry/Harry complained on behalf of grumpy elderly people (older people frequently suffer from pains etc which makes them more sensitive to things that most people don't even notice). When the harassment of the other family started Harry was elderly himself, and police that responded to call of disturbances were not aware of his background. They seem to realise that it was BS complaints at least after a while, maybe even from the very first start at the very first call when they met a family who just watched television at normal soundlevel, but shrug it off as a case of old Mr Crankypant searching faults with someone else when he can't sleep for his aching joints.
Does anyone know whether police or other public officers can, or even have an obligation, to report to any instance if they come across people that appear as there's a cognitive vacancy of some kind?
And the wife who responded "no" to the question as to whether Harry had mental issues, was she also in the dark about his background? How awful if that is the case.

I was on the second floor of a 3 story apartment building and two elderly sisters; one lived below me and the other above, would harrass and torment me from the day I moved in! Banging on the walls, the pipes dropping baseballs on the floor above my head or purposefully stomping around just to aggravate me. The final straw was when they keyed my car and put something in my gas tank to cause my car to break down. I knew it was one of them yet I had no evidence to take them to court. After 1 year I moved out. Come to find out, they did that to everyone that moved in that apartment between them. To this day I suffer PTSD because of it.

🇨🇦 omg! The whole time I watched this documentary I had shivers run down my back! I just can't believe how terrified this man made this poor family! Actually families! I've had a pair of really bad neighbors as well that I had to wear ear plugs for two years and the more I knocked on these two single moms door the worst it was for my son and I. The police came many time only to tell me that there was nothing they could do and that they couldn't forse these two moment to become productive members of society! I felt like I was loosing my mind! I cant even begin to possibly imagine what these poor people went through. I'm so deeply and so sincerely sorry for the woman loosing her family! Also for the other family that were seconds away from loosing their lives. I just really don't understand though how this phyco path slipped through the cracks and into society without the public or police being aware of this man's where abouts! I'm sure it's mandatory now that the police have to be told where these people are. Just how on Earth did this sick, sick, sick man manage to get out of prison after killing "5" people? I know for certain that here in Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 that this man would never see the light of a day ever again! He would have been sentenced to life imprisonment! With zero chance of parole! I'm sorry to both families that ultimately will also serve a life sentence but in a different way but none the less they are severely scared for life! Please, May all the God's in heaven Bless both of these families, with a little peace, and a little healing each and every day. 🙏

Not a freaking mass murderer.
I have nightmare neighbors, nothing violent to this level though the old man has tried to hit me....I'm female....for walking my dog on the public sidewalk. They call the city and file childish complaints all the time, petty crap, the city is really tired of them but they haven't done anything illegal.
Our dispute is over a dangerously tall retaining wall that holds their property up thays falling and they refuse to fix it claiming its not theirs. Though the surveyor has already plotted and determined it is. Point being we have to take them to court civilly to get this resolved....and just a retainer for a lawyer is 5 to 10k dollars, we can't afford that. We are stuck between a rock and a hard place. And they keep on....with their bs. They randomly photograph us and our children (perfectly legal 🙄) doing mundane things like yardwork, shoveling snow, our kids playing in the yard. I am very tempted to play tit for tat and be petty but we've kept the high road. Their family is a mix of felons, drug addicts. The couple are in their 70s, raised their grandchildren....did a crap job mind you, doing drugs on the sttreet corner and side of the house by age 11 and out god knows where til all hours of the morning. One getting pregnant at 13. So they raise that child now too and the cycle will continue.

How they could allow him first to be just completely discharged & second, without ANY kind of post Broadmoor check-ups//check/ins or any type of continuing outpatient psychiatric care, monitoring &/or treatment is just beyond me!!! & B.) That when he WAS released from Broadmoor, it was with absolutely NO SUPERVISION WHATSOEVER AND that he was allowed to change his name & assume a completely new identity (with absolutely no links to his past horrendous murder spree), move to Wales, marry & have a daughter then move back to just a mere SIX MILES from the scene of his past crimes, w/o ANYONE having been any the wiser regarding who he really was & what he'd done! By allowing him to do all this, they clearly put any number of people, PARTICULARLY THE SMITHS, and their lives at risk! So there's a lot of things we are able to do because people kind of blow us off as any threat at all. But just as there are criminals in younger age brackets there's also old criminals, too. This is an excellent example why the right to bear arms should not be infringed. Notice how the madman had no trouble obtaining 6 (six) weapons illegally. And the police was clueless for years. And the victims had no way of protecting themselves. In fact the main thing that still haunts the man of the house is how helpless he was.

I am shocked that the authorities would ever allow years of what was happening, without ever doing anything about it. It is a miracle he did not actually kill them. The police failed this family, as I suspect they failed the other people in the 70s. It is just wrong to allow any one person harass others.

I watched this video about the Smith family all the way through so now I have additional comments. I cannot believe Broadmore hospital ever released this man nor how he ever got married. The Smith family was lucky they got away from him in the nick of time. Jill must have had plenty of nightmares after her tragic experience, and fortunately for her, she led a relatively normal life after that. Sad and scary.
