Update: Newer, more detailed video is available now: ruclips.net/video/7l0biWQrshI/видео.html In case you haven't already heard - I'm completely redoing this, along with my other "retro reviews" of battlefield into a single, largescale documentary. Just watching this now makes me uneasy... so many mistakes. Refractor Engine 2 was used to build Battlefield 1942 - not Refractor Engine 1. Edit: No wait - Refractor Engine 1.0 was used for 1942 and Vietnam, I was right the first time. Still, I could improve a lot of stuff here. So yeah... those dumb mistakes will be fixed with the new video
Really enjoying the content. This game was huge at the time. Greatest memory in gaming for me. All my friends was as addicted as myself. Game looks so basic now. But great community. I’m a different generation now. But no matter the game or platform just not the same for me any more. You said it right at the beginning of this vid. Was a golden age of gaming.
favorite MP game of all time. i still go back and it every now then, theres still a small community who play it online but because the gamespy service got shut down, gotta use a 3rd party app to find servers
I loved this game. If they updated the graphics and a few other things but basically left the gameplay alone I believe it could still be successful if they did an updated release. Limiting weapon load outs to what you select or pick up is a great way to keep things level. The experienced players obviously have an advantage in any game but giving them better load outs for time played really stacks things against the newbs and that’s not fun. I miss those days.....
9:10 I actually think that is a disservice to players, making it easier. There was a lot of gratification in learning how to properly handle aircrafts - battlefield 2 too. Not everyone could do it properly, or at least not with proper practise.
Only 7 comments! Such great content! I remember playing this game to death on my pentium 3 600mhz computer with 256mb of ram and a geforce mx 4000 if I am correct
This was when games were great, unfortunately, Battlefield 2 was the last great Battlefield, from there on they copied call of duty way to much and killed the franchise by only focus in random free for all gaming and dident give a crap about clan wars which was soooo great in 1942, bfv and bf2. We will never get so great games like this ever again it looks like. Games today are way more dumbed down, the graphics today are awsome, yes, but the gameplay today is just boring in the long run. I miss these time.
Maybe it's because I'm a 2000s kid but to me they started copying Call of Duty with Battlefield 2042. Unless there's something I'm not seeing. Because people I'll say Battlefield 3 or 4 were the last good Battlefield games.
Been playing battlefield since 2002, and have to say when they went modern.. unfortunately they ruined the franchise. Besides 2142, all of the modern style battlefield games are horrendous!!
From memory it was only on one map - it was a map of a single island, with airbases at either end and a destroyer and submarine for each team. The submarine was just really something to muck around with, it was a bit hopeless against the destroyer, and you usually went for the planes to try and bomb the destroyer.
My memories...There was no cover, people were easily spotted...there was much running...you never seemed to have the right weapon at the right point. It was very frustrating, as some people had good internet, others had like 100kb - 2mbps. It was spartan and was awful.

Awesome! When your replied to my comment yesterday on MGS documentary, I came to check this! I didnt know this even existed.. Nice..
Lol
BF1942 The only Battlefield game that let us control submarine
We will never have games like this again....
In other words:
NO unlocks
NO skins
NO microtransactions
NO cutscenes
NO p2p server
100% fun gameplay we dont experience any more.
just started playing this game. its actually a year older than me but it still is a awesome game.

Fun fact: DICE pitches 1942 as a GameCube exclusive, unfortunately that never happened due to Nintendo having no online strategy whatsoever.
Your videos are criminally underrated dude
Thank you - but this video is nothing compared to what's coming ;)
@@Nick930 Awesome, you got a new subscriber.
That music! much better than the music of modern battlefield games.

This is an old video. A new one is being made
The title theme itself is worth a 1 hour video. Ah, those were the days of excitement and anticipation of games!

Where were the submarines :c

on the map called "Midway" and if you play on server "Moongamers" on the map called "Guadalcanal". Maybe on Simple main server also.
Desert Combat, sweet Desert Combat. Battlefield 2 sucked compared to that mod and I ended up going back to BF: Vietnam
