I met an old veteran of a Panzerdivision who fought in Russia first and then in Framce and Belgium towards the end. We sang that song. I still have a photo with him. He told so many stories. I remember one in Russia. He told he was going for a shit behind a tree and then suddenly the Russians attacked and killed everybody of his troop. He waited there with his bare ass lying on the ground for hours cause he was scared to death. When it went dark he finally got up. He literally shat his pants. ("Da hab ich mir in die Hose geschissen!") I don't know if he's still alive, it's been a while now since I met him but I hope he's been well. God bless him and all his comrades.
