In this video I will show you how you can download a vendor model of the self-centering vise and turn it into an intelligent vise with stock controlled by parameters.

Thanks so much for this Kevin, glad I had a useful question to merit a superb video, made all the better by keeping the units to the world standard of Metric 😉😁
    Thanks so much mate 👍

@@MechanicalAdvantage that’s a given, I’m hoping the real thing will be in use this weekend on my 4th axis! Thanks buddy

Both you guys need to be applauded 👏👏👏
Rob for asking the question, and Kevin for posting the answer in a collaborative forum.
Best Regards to both of you….
      Robert.
PS Kevin….. I’m not having much luck getting my ‘proposed’ sponsor for an ‘Oz Tour’.
Probably run out of time now for the race on the Gold Coast.
I’ll re-group, and have another crack early in the New Year.
      😎

@@RobertBrown-lf8yq thanks Robert, Kevin is a saint, this video will help so many people especially those getting into 4th axis machining with this style of vice.

I literally had a question about vises and parametrics the other day! I’ve got a 6” 5th Axis Dovetail vise and I find my dovetail cuts on my stock can be off by a few thousands. I’ve been doing too much math by measuring the difference, then going back into fusion and adjusting my joint between the vise and stock. I’ll be giving this a try later and hope it helps. If not I’ll be shooting you an email. Thanks for the info and making another great video.

This is super useful, thank you!
One question - I have a base pallet modelled, once I created the vise model, I created a 3rd file that consists of both the base pallet and the vise on top. However, the user parameters for the stock won't be available in the 3rd file. I can "break link" which makes the user parameter available for edit, but that means any update I do to the vise model won't be updated in the 3rd file.
I think this is the same even if I am to insert the vise model into a part that I'm making, I'd need to break the link in order to change the stock size.
Do you have any recommendations on best practices for this? Thanks!

awesome video, i have a question. is there a way to import a model to be cut from the stock that is created? that would be next level, atleast for me

Hi Kevin, very clean way to do the parametric vise wish this came out before I did my vises. How would you handle the different jaw configurations? These can be swapped to go wider and some you can swap for soft jaw bases. Cheers, Sean

I think there will be a solution in the future that I can't really comment on yet. Stay tuned. You might also consider joining the Fusion 360 Insider Program to learn more.

I should also note that for now, you would have to build a design file for each configuration that you want to use. Hopefully that gets much improved in 2023.

Hey Kevin, quick question. Did you set motion limits for the slider joints off camera before you created the motion link?

  • @RBravo82
    @RBravo82 Год назад

Hi Kevin, when you join the first jaw to the base with a slider, you say the number should be positive when you slide the jaw open, how do you switch it if it isnt?

Thanks, very useful. But I think you typed too fast, "parametrically" is misspelled in your thumbnail image.
