ENJOY!
I was introduced to Mopars, by 'The Mod Squad'. It was my favorite TV show when it came out. One day in 1971, they were filming, down the street from where I lived, in North Hollywood. I went to watch, and got to meet the cast, and get their autographs. I asked what they would drive for the second season (the car they drove in the first season was an old Woody wagon that had been blown up for the last show of the first season) well... Clarence Williams III said to me; c'mon kid, I'll show you. He took me across the street to see their car, for the second season...and there it was, the most beautiful car I had ever seen. It was a convertible 'Plum Crazy' Dodge Challenger ! I fell in love with that car on the spot, and I was given a tour of it by one of my favorite TV stars. It took me 40 years to get one but in 2009, I found it. A silver Challenger, with the R/T Classic package, and every option available, at that time. It was the Dodge Dealers 'Show Car' to feature all available options. It had already been in a car show, before I bought it !
Hi Fred, Happy to read you finally got your Challenger :-) Hope you see many more cars on this RUclips Channel you enjoy. Please subscribe, and hit the "bell" so you can see all the cars when they are uploaded on this RUclips Channel, Lou
Back in 1986 I had a 69 Fury 3 with an alligator vinyl top but nothing like this vehicle.
Thanks again for picking the best.
Hi Joe Ford, That's cool you had a "Gator Top" :-) Very nice, and thank you for sharing. Regarding this video, you're welcome, Lou
My Dad bought one of these in 69, his was a light grey mettallic with an automatic. One thing he had on his was side side scoopes on the 1/4 panels, totally nonfunctional but looked pretty cool to us. The hood had the functional hood scoops that operated with a pull cable under the dash. That car was a blast for me and my two brothers, cost Dad a fortune in rear tires.
HI fedup, Hapy to read this car / video brings back memories of your Dad's 1969 :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
This is definitely one of your most interesting subjects, Lou! The top, the white interior, the color. All in the same package with that powerhouse! Hats off to him and his friends for restoring this car. It only makes it more interesting and valuable in my opinion that they are hobbyists.
Thanks for recording this story!
Hi cookscars1, Happy to read you enjoy the uniqueness of this car :-) My pleasure to share with you, and you're welcome, Lou
The A12 cars are some of the strongest street machines of their era. A neighbor of mine bought one new. When he stood on the throttle, the whole car rose up on its suspension. It was impressive sight. The sound was great too.
Hi Randy, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your neighbors new car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Pretty sure I'm not alone with this, but 440s sound so much better than Hemis!
Gorgeous car btw!
Hi Tibbs91, 440 or Hemi...must be like picking the right one at a "Miss World" competition when you're down to the last 5 :-) Lou
Wow! The paint alone is stunning but that vinyl top, you just don't see them too often, even at Mopar events. I'm so glad it made it to this one. Thanks for finding and sharing it with us, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, Happy to receive a "Wow!" from you :-) My pleasure sharing with you and you're welcome, Lou
You must have really good dreams at night. You must never have nightmares, making videos of stuff like this. Especially since you are the master of detail.
I'm betting if that guy ever gets depressed, he just opens up his garage door and it's all smiles and rainbows.
Hi bill thompson, Occasionally, however if I watch two videos before bed I'll usually wake with a smile :-) Lou
WOW. A Mod Top car. Very rare.
Hi William, Happy to receive a "WOW" from you :-) Lou
What an absolute beauty that metallic green paint with the white interior stunning
Hi acts2211, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Absolutely gorgeous!! That’s when cars were great. Thanks
You're on the right RUclips Channel Doug for the cars you and I enjoy :-) You're welcome, Lou
Nothing sounds better than a 440 or 426 exhaust, period,no exceptions
NICE :-)
Hi, Lou! Dodge Fever meets flower power! This Super Bee is bound to create a buzz! Thanks for the tip, Lou! Loved hearing Darrin pop open this Six Pack!
Hi iswc27, "Dodge Fever meets flower power!" Good one! :-) You're welcome, Lou
Lou, you know how to pick them! An awesome A12 and a Mod Top to boot! So cool!
Hi Goola Mamuda, Happy to read you enjoy the selection on this car :-) I know when I seen this one I said "WHAAAT?!" So happy to share this unique car with you, Lou
Flower power! I love the color, a unique green. I've never seen a floral vinyl top on any car, and I never thought I would see one on a muscle car, but that's what makes the car so special. Thanks, Lou!
Hi Brian Chappie, Happy to read you "love" the color and unique top :-) You're welcome, Lou
Beautiful car but F8 green is their dark green/dark ivy green! F6 is their bright green! I came across an article with pictures a couple of weeks ago about a 1969 1/2 F8 green mod top Six Pack Super Bee with the white/black interior that was repainted F6 green and then totaled in 1973! They bought the car from a junkyard in Ontario! The article was posted on the Lift Off Hood forum! My first car was an F8 green 1970 GTX with a matching interior, white hood stripes and a black vinyl top! I've always loved that dark shades of MoPar colors, especially the F8 green and the B7 blue!
Hi Olias Of Sunhillow, You're correct, I listed F8 and it's F6, that has now been updated. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
@@loucostabile, I just came across an article with pictures about a.1970 F8 green Mod Top Hemi Cuda that was stolen! I miss my F8 green GTX! At the same time that I had my '70, there was an F8 green 1968 GTX with a matching vinyl top and interior and the paper ledger green lower body stripes and a 1970 B7 blue 1970 Coronet 500 with a matching interior and no vinyl top, with the factory 383 Magnum and pistol grip 4 speed! That last kids mother even had a B7 blue 1971 Road Runner with matching interior and no vinyl top, and white stripes, and a 383 pistol grip 4 speed that he used to drive! And then, there was a B7 blue 1968 Coronet 500 with no vinyl top and matching interior with a 383 Magnum auto on the floor, then, there was a B7 blue 1970 Sport Satellite with a white top and interior, with a 383 auto on the floor with air conditioning! Another kid in school, his mother owned that one! Those cars and colors always stood out to me! I remember all of the muscle cars from back in the seventies to the early eighties! Some of them were pretty beat, body wise, like mine was but the engines were built up like mine was! And then other cars were repainted and built up! Ah! Vintage cars and classic music!
Lot's of "Winner" cars in that line up :-)
@@loucostabile, yeah, and I remember about four or five GTO's, one was a 389 tri power 1966! A couple of Maliu SS's, Torino GT's and one GTA, Mustangs, Camaros and Firebirds! A 1970 Super Bee and two 1969 Road Runners as well another 1970 Road Runner that had my 440 4 barrel 4 speed in it topped off with the three two barrels and converted into a GTX, my GTX had the beat up Road Runners 383 auto that I built up and won five out of seven street races with it before the tranny went, I sold it to the kid with the 1970 Coronet 500 383 Magnum pistol grip 4 speed, he had a backyard full of MoPar muscle cars at the time, then he built up a 1970 Challenger 340 and described it as "almost a Hemi" and never lost a race! He kept his yard full of cars in his mothers backyard until he got the house and moved back in almost thirty years later and the city made him clean the yard, so he junked all of the cars! Cudas, Challengers, Charger R/Ts, my old GTX, his old Coronet 500 and his mothers old Road Runner all went to the junkyard! What a shame! He did sell his built up Challenger 340 for $1900 to help pay the property taxes, and the guy restored the car!
WOW!! .. Lou you are killin it with these magnificent Mopars! This has got to be one of the coolest Muscle cars ever ..The vinyl top is the holy grail of options, just Groovin!. This Super Bee should be in the Smithsonian! And a huge shout out to the owner Darren for meticulously restoring this ride!
Hi Robert Pattison, Happy to receive a "WOW!!" from you :-) High praise for this car. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
WOW! What an amazing dash layout for 1969! And THAT REV gives us all the little boy feels! Wonderful back story on the top. Thank you both for sharing!
Hi Beast 1624, Happy to receive a "WOW!" from you :-) My pleasure to share, and you're welcome, Lou
I once saw a '70 Cuda 440-6 with a mod top. It's such a rare option that most people, mopar buffs included, don't even know they exist. I thought this color was called Spring Green, a notable color for 69 Daytona also.
Hi Nick S, Happy to read this video brings back memories of the 1970 Cuda with a mod top on it you remember :-) Lou
I think there was a magazine ad from Plymouth showing that Mod top, with the caption "Look what Plymouth's up to now!"
Another great Car Story!
Beautiful Super Bee and video- thanks Lou!
Hi Jeff King, Happy to read you enjoy this episode :-) You're welcome, Lou
I remember being at the Ontario Camaro Nationals and a guy with a gold 1970 Z28 had the psychedelic pattern on the side on the car just like the roof of this Mopar. Great videos Lou.
Hi John Milner, Glad to read this car brings back memories of the Z28 with the psychedelic pattern :-) Sounds cool, Lou
The mod tops that I'd seen before also had that floral pattern on the doors and seat upholstery🍃🍂🌿
The one's you've seen are very mod :-)
Awesome ride. I love it. Thanks for sharing Lou.
Hi Big Charlie's Model Garage, Happy to read you "love it" :-) You're welcome, Lou
Floral Top A12 Super Bee, holy shit... I did not know that exists. Wow

That's interesting , I've never seen a vinyl top like that before . It reminds me of the show " Laugh In " which I believe is where the idea for the GTO Judge came from . Thanks for posting .
Hi Bud Lee, You're right, that psychedelic pattern is unique :-) Thank you for viewing, commenting, and you're welcome, Lou
Now that’s something you don’t see everyday! Rare car, definitely different Lou!
Hi Joseph, Happy to read you enjoy the uniqueness of this car :-) Lou
I've been in the chemical biz for 34 years. My Dad was over 50 and worked for Chrysler. Remember Stauffer well. Good blast from the past!
Happy to read this car / video brought back good memories :-)
Love at first sight. We owned a rodded 69 Super Bee with a done up 383...... fond memories. Too nice to drive.
Hi Claire Valjakka, Happy to read you love the looks of this car :-) Glad to read this car / video brings back memories of your 69 Super Bee. Lou
Awesome top and color combo!! I spotted a Mod Top Dart at Lebanon Valley Dragway, NY a couple of years ago.
Hi AMCmachine, Happy to read you enjoy this color combo :-) Sounds like a cool Dart in NY too, Lou
Lou's back with my all time # 1 top of all #1s which there's 12 of em. 69 1/2 this color with white or black stripe. Best car ever it's gods garage queen.
Hi Korie Creson, High praise for this car :-) Lou
In the '70's when I was about 12, my dad's friend owned a junkyard. In the back corner of the yard there was a orange 1970 Hemi Super Bee. The story was it was in the wrecking yard because someone had stole it for the engine/drivetrain and stripped it. The wrecking yard then sold the interior out of it. All that was left of it was the body...a very complete, very straight, no rust body. I hate when I think about that car as I'm sure it left that yard as a mangled cube.
Hi Freedomquest08, Glad to read this car brought back memories of the 1970 Hemi Super Bee in the junk yard. Sounds like a fun car to restore, Lou
Maybe not! Let's think positive.
My dad bought this car many many years ago. I think he was the original owner ❤️

So nice I had to watch it twice. That's one nasty exhaust note! The green paint somehow looks alive, and the top has a period kind of Andy Warhol type vibe. Great car, great owner, and great presentation. Thanks Lou!
Hi customkey, Happy to read this was a episode you car enjoy time and time again :-) You're welcome, Lou
The absolute ridiculous lengths car companies would go to to appeal to specific market niches knows no bounds! And here I thought my neighbor's pink Pinto with the black and white checkered vinyl top was weird. But a special car this is, thanks!
Hi 20alphabet, Yes, clearly this top makes this car unique for sure :-) You're welcome, Lou
Wow, crazy. What a car. Great someone has taken the time & cash to keep it as new. Thx for sharing Lou. bravo!
Hi D Wnright, Happy to receive a "Wow" from you :-) My pleasure to share with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Amazing car thanks.
Glad you enjoy this car :-) You're welcome.
Beauty of a Dodge! The bright green is so limey, but not sour... this is sweet. That top is just amazing, it's too cool n flower powery kinda. I so love it. For me the best of it is between that kind of canopy hood over the big bad engine with the vicious smoky revvy exhaust n the floral top. I'll call it a tie! Perfect car with obviously tons of work put into it, n perfect vid too, love it! Thank u, I appreciate it vids😊
Hi WickedFireFly13, High praise for the "limey, but not sour." car :-) Smiling the entire comment, and a "sweet treat" to read what you see. Thank you, and happy to read you "love it". You're welcome, Lou
Gorgeous car Lou and love everything about it!!
Hi Ed B, High praise :-) Lou
What a awesome unique car! I remember those colored flowered tops back in the day. I was like 11 years old when this car was made and those tops were on a lot of the chrysler products and models back then. That flowered top actually looks great with that color car and the striping of white. The red lined tires were cool and I understand the reasoning of no hub caps but the car kinda looked bare with just black rims. That engine sound was awesome and power galor!!! I loved the owner too his knowledge of his car is just awesome he was a real neat guy! Thanks for sharing Lou!
Hi Steve Flad, Happy to read you appreciate the uniqueness of this car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
New meaning to "flower power"!
Good one :-)
Badass Ride
:-)
Great car! Never have seen that type of vinyl top. I guess only 26 0made is a good reason. Thanks Lou!
Hi Greg, Rare vinyl top for sure :-) You're welcome, Lou
You have done it again Lou
Thank you msacco175 :-)
Just "Perfect" Great Job Sir !!!
Always one of my Favorite Muscle cars A12 Super Bee's : D
High praise for this car Ronnie :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
From my fav muscle era!
Hi Bob, Glad to this one is from your favorite muscle car era :-) Lou
Hey Lou, I am REALLY becoming very fond of Dodge Cornets! I really love the ‘69 and ‘70 front ends and tail lights. Imagine in the day driving with that top on your muscle car? Thinking back their were some really cool looks to tops and I think Chrysler had the most interesting ones. Thank You Lou
gene978 me too, I bought a new 70 Coronet 500/383(not magnum) Red/ Black vinyl top new. But i did not buy a 70 Challenger /Magnum/4SPD , or a AMC REBEL RED/white /blue: as Dealer was aMC AND DODGE BOTH....Did enjoy my Coronet for some 13 years of hard use: rusted out BAD......ETC.
Hey gene978, Happy to read you're very fond of this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
Very reminiscent of the 68 thru 70 Dodge Charger. Of course I am aware that they shared the same body with the 117" wheelbase and 2 door hardtop styling.
holy crap! an A-12 car with the mod top vinyl roof option...crazy..hilarious.....thanks Lou!
Hi allen max, This is one unique crazy optioned top on this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
" GROOVY MAN "
FAR OUT :-)
Nice car, love the color for sure. That top is something else for sure.
Hi Kenny Ellis, Happy to read you enjoy this car color, and unique top too :-) Lou
Wow, that roof. Haven't seen one of those since 1969. Again, Chrysler went the extra mile in every way to dominate the muscle car Era. Just beyond 😎 cool. Great car
Hi stripervince1, Happy to read you enjoy the unique roof on this car :-) Lou
@@loucostabile I'm pretty sure I saw one of these way back when. I believe it was same pattern but orange yellow, and it was on a 69 fury station wagon.
Incredible! I'm speechless.
Hi mitchlu, Well said :-) Lou
I have never seen a mod top in this color. As a matter of fact I have seen one Chrysler product with one. It was a yellow ‘69 Barracuda at the Gilmore Museum. It certainly was a bold idea at the time.
Hi Dave, Happy to share this rare option on a car with you :-) Lou
One excellent Mod Top A12 , thanks Lou !
You're welcome Michael :-)
I’ve seen a few Mod Tops in my dayz
Back in the 80’s
This one is very very nice
Mopar or no car since 1982

Now THAT’S a MOD! - (Crocodile Dundee)
Such a rarity I’d never heard of it, either.
But TRULY a sign of the times. I could picture a male model type buying one of these options and cruising down Sunset Blvd.
Even David Cassidy would’ve been jealous!
Hi Robert Bennett, Happy to read your comments on this car :-) Lou
Muito bonito este super bee, interessante esta película sobre o teto. Excelente vídeo, parabéns lou.
Hi Wiliam, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) Lou
@@loucostabile Olá Lou! realmente um vídeo melhor que outro. Valeu meu irmão! Um forte abraço!
I had a 69 Satalite Mod Top with a 318 in the late 70's. Everybody used to laugh at the roof. The guy I sold it to junked in in the early 80's, looking back it was a shame
Hi Cindy Teper, Happy to read this car / video reminded your of your 69 Satellite with the Mod Top :-) Lou
@@loucostabile Yeah mine wasn't as subtle though. More contrasting colors and obvious floral pattern. The guy I sold it to tore it all off because his friends were teasing him. I think he had more than a few beers first
Wow awesome car great video thanks for sharing
Hi Dart Dude, Happy to read you enjoy this episode :-) You're welcome, Lou
Lou, With all those flowers on the roof, I wonder if real bees are ever attracted to this Super Bee.
Good point Right Lane Hog :-)
Speechless
Well said :-)
Awesome Lou.
Glad you enjoy this car Hans :-)
Nice!
:-)
Love it! The 6 pack rocks! And it's a 4 speed!
Happy to read you "Love it!" :-)
Sounds great and healthy love the top
Hi larry borkstrom, Happy to read you enjoy the sounds and top on this car :-) Lou
Awesome Lou《☆》That's one sweet sounding & looking Bee with a rare vinyl top. In this age of vinyl wraps it shouldn't be too hard to replicate the vinyl if needed🤓☻🤠
Hi BDOG JR, Happy to read you enjoy the sounds and looks of this car :-) Lou
All of the 1969 A12 cars have drum brakes. This was because the big block drum brake models have wide 11 inch drums in the rear, but the disc brake models have thin 10 inch drums in the rear. That wouldn't be good with wide racing tires on the rear.

flower power! fastastic that a roll of the color correct stuff was available for a 1991 restoration effort. magnificent 1969 element: perfectly acceptable surface treatment in that era. unbelievable! this would be a fantastic vehicle. factory greenwall wheels. radio delete or AM. clock delete and no A/C. nice. never seen the tray stand for pinned hoods. neato
HI Scott Brady, Happy to read you enjoy the unique "flower power" that this car presents with :-) Lou
I missed a chance in 1984 to trade my red/black/black 1970 Challenger R/T S/E 440 4bbl for a 1970 440+6 Roadrunner convertible in B5 with w/white top and interior. I regret not getting that car to this day…
Hi Brooke, If you have a "red/black/black 1970 Challenger R/T S/E 440" you have nothing to regret :-) Lou
We had wall paper in our kitchen like that in 1970.
Nice :-)
One of my favorite Mopars. But damn that trunk gap!
Hi Daniel Scott, Happy to read this is a favorite Mopar of yours (minus the gap) :-) Lou
Great car, great video!
Win / Win :-) Thank you Roger Lee
Like the flower vinyl top I saw a 68 or a 69 ?? cuda had a flower top I think dusters and Darts had the option too
Hi Michael, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
Beautiful
Happy to read you enjoy this one :-)
From my experience the hobyist almost all ways dose the best restoration provided he finishes it.
Thank you for viewing and sharing.
The reason the A12 cars have no hub caps is because they were sold as ready to race. At the time drag strip rules required the hub caps, trim rings or wheel covers to be removed before racing. The rules have been changed and that stuff is allowed.
Hi Mark G, Thank you for viewing and sharing you're knowledge, Lou
My favorite muscle car ever made is the 69 1/2 A12 Roadrunner/Super Bee. Practically just as fast as a Hemi powered version but the 440 was way more manageable to drive on the street and way less expensive to buy and maintain. The top on this one isn't my style but still a really awesome car👍👍
Hi Jeremy Thompson, Glad to read this car is a favorite of yours :-) It's cool the top isn't your style, and thank you for viewing and commenting, Lou
Great car but personally I would rather have a black vinyl top, but it is unusual and note worthy. PS I didn't care for that top on the '69 Dodge Dart Swinger either though I know it was a marketing tool supposed to attract the young buyers by representing flower power like from the show "Laugh In". PSS The Dealer Only Road Runner "wheel covers" were available and an unusual item too that I also didn't like .
Hi Larry B, Happy to read you enjoy the car, and it's cool you like a black top. That would look great too, Lou
Super Duper Cool 😎
Not just anyone can own a car like this.
Q’s: who was the guy that ordered/ bought this new???
And..what planet 🌎 were these Chrysler people from, to bring this to market???
Absolutely love it.
JT
Hi JT, Happy to read you enjoy this Care Taker and car too :-) No idea who ordered it originally. They were from a planet that's "far out man" :-) Lou
Its gorgeous!!! Not diggin the floral top but still bad ass none the less! #FlysuperbeeFly!!!!
Hi Tammy Gunnell, Happy to read you enjoy the car, and clearly this top is not for everyone. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Thanks little nice car pretty green go fast beautiful sound thank you for your video and your service GS out
My pleasure George :-) Thank you for viewing and commenting.
I would have loved to buy that car back in 1969, but on my navy pay at the time all I could afford was a '69 Dodge Dart Swinger 340 (purchased new on July 19, 1969). But I remember seeing a top like that on a Dodge or Plymouth at the Key West, Florida, naval base in 1970, but the person pointing the top out to me referred to as a paisley top (not that that was the correct name).
Hi 1royalpalm, Happy to read this car reminds you of that Dodge or Plymouth back in Key West in 1970 :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
So if you got a few MOPAR owners together with these mod top cars you would have " The Mod Squad " ? ha ha
Nice :-)
LOVE IT! Or should I say I Dig it!
Hi Mean Green R/T 392, Happy to read you "LOVE IT!" :-) Far out, Lou
Although the lights need more lighting cause, they look is great !
Thanks for sharing a tip.
I suddenly want a green apple Jolly Rancher. 😀
Nice :-)
With todays scanner and high tech printers it should be possible to clone that pattern in vinyl . Many cars today are having the Vinyl sheets applied as decals that can stretch with a heat gun .
Once the general pattern is copied , you just paste each copy onto it in a Computer phot shop program much like floor tile have a repeating pattern . The trick would be to match the Factory application that must have been stamped from a template to match the curves and pillars.
Sadly , some people in the late 1960's had wallpaper like this and tried to match the couch and chairs plus women matched their Maxi-skirt.
Hi Gary wood, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
A friend of mine around 1980 bought a 71 charger with a 440 six pac. It was B7 blue with a baby blue Mod top and full matching Mod interior! It looked ridiculous, I asked him why the car had shelf paper on it? we didn't care how rare it was it was just plain silly looking. I bet he wishes he hung on to it!
Hi theoriginalmungaman, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your friends car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Graveyard Cars did one of those tops on a Dart I think. But they use a guy who has that material. I think that's what is said

Awesomeness!!:):)
Winner :-)
Be interested in finding out if this car spent any of its life in Canada.
Hmmm, not sure.
1969 1/2 ?? 🤔 what does that year mean??
Was half way into production when Dodge introduced the "A12" option (as I understand it)
Was weed involved when they decided to offer that vinyl roof option?? Anybody know how that floral theme came about?
Hmmm, not sure on both questions.

Happy to see you like this one :-)
Man I hate it when the hood is Off color. Other than ORGANISOL. killer car tho I owned WM23M9A292066 now its in Australia
Happy to share this "killer car" with you. Glad to read you had a fun car too.
a mod top on an A-12, ....hilarious, thats like putting grandmas sunday hat on a gangster
That's about right :-) and funny too :-)
The best year of the Super Bee. I disliked that wrap around grille from '70 or '71.
Floral top ? well Peggy Lipton passed away recently...Loved her but the top is a cool 1 of 1.
High praise for the best year of the "Super Bee" :-)
I have a 1 of 375 built A12 Roadrunner 69-1/2, K2 K2 Orange black Bucket/console interior. Might sell.. Be over $120,000
