Moved to the area in 1982… could see this monolith from my bedroom window as I grew up. Live in Poole now, but did a delivery to contractors there a month ago. Took some pics to remember this iconic landmark by. I understand your tears and emotion… inanimate objects can and do become loved and cherished. ((((HUGS))))
My family grew up with the chimney & my wife's grandparents lived almost underneath it at Ower lane. Folk don't appreciate what it meant to some locals. I had a tear in my too when she fell.
who would ever think we would come to morn the end of this proudly standing monolithic monument of 20th century heavy industrial power which has paid homage to its ancestors steeped deep within the history of England's industrial revolution for so many decades. all things come to pass eventually. i am glad to have seen you stand tall for all the many years i have lived. rest in dust fawley power tower, rest in peace.
Glad I wasn't the only who cried! I'm not even from the area, but grew up fishing alot from Weston shore with my dad and now family in Hamble....it was our landmark so we knew we were nearly in Hamble ❤
I have seen several videos of the demolition; many with better definition, sound, etc. But yours has been the most moving of all. Greetings to you
