    I have owned this scale for over 3 years now. It’s a beautiful scale with well made materials. But the readings are not accurate enough and for this price I don’t recommend it.

      Hmmm, so yeah, I've been reading around and I am not at all an expert but it seems like all scales of this type are a bit inaccurate, so an option is to have yourself measured (costs around 20 bucks where I'm at) and then use that as a base line. The question, that no one has answered as far as I've seen, is how well does it keep up with changes after you have done your baseline tests. If you test yourself in a year will those tests reflect what the Garmin says?
      Of course it feels wrong if it just spits out garbage numbers, so I understand returning it, but I still would like to know how trustworthy it is assuming you calibrate it correctly.

    Best video I have seen for this unit. Just had an In Body reading this morning. Can get scale for $120. Will use In Body metrics to set benchmark. Ordering now! Thanks for the nudge!

    Thanks for bringing up the price. I can't bring myself to spend the hundred dollar premium just to get the Garmin ecosystem integration. Nobody else seems to mention that.

    I like scales using AA or AAA batteries bcs scale life isn't tied to rechargable built-in battery decay life. ALSO...have Fitbit Aria2 but transitioning from Fitbit to Garmin. Since Garmin S2 came out in 2020 (prior model 2015), will most likely continue with the Aria2 until Garmin releases an updated smartscale (S3?).

    I've had mine for about 6 weeks and so far I'm not convinced it is accurate, or anywhere near accurate or even consistent. But I don't have enough data to prove it either way yet, so I'm continuing to use it. I'll compare it to my next DEXA scan and 'in-office' weight measurement to see how accurate/inaccurate it actually is (it was very different to my baseline DEXA scan/weight measurement!).

    • @DaveDoesFitness
      @DaveDoesFitness  5 месяцев назад +1

      So a DEXA scan will 100% be more accurate than any bioelectrical impedance measurement. There is a part of the video where I mention adjusting the measurement to a new anchor point by manually entering more accurate results (like what you'd get from a DEXA scan). I'd be interested if once you do that the numbers start to line up better.
      Like any scale / bioelectrical impedance measurement just be sure you are consistent with hydration and time of day to get reliable results. Thanks for watching!

    • @iangrant3615
      @iangrant3615 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@DaveDoesFitness thank you, since I first adjusted the scale with the results of my last Dexa they are a bit more accurate but still changes quite a lot every few days when I weigh myself and also changes when I weigh myself before or after having a shower for example. So the main challenge is not knowing which result is the accurate result to trust. I understand your point in the video that as long as they are consistent then you can just focus on how your results are trending rather than what the numbers are. Will see how it goes in a couple of months after next Dexa.

      @@iangrant3615 Please come back here and post your findings. This is what interests me -- how accurate is it assuming you calibrate it with results from a Dexa and you measure yourself at the same time (when you get out of bed for instance).

I was all set to buy scale but just a bit more hesitate now. TBH though, I was thinking of buying it simply for the convinces of keeping track of the weight only, with all these other features as a nice bonus.

    I love Garmin. BUT, the price is steep. I got a Greater Goods smart scale from Amazon for $45. It has all of the body comp info. I have to manually input my info into the Garmin app, but weight is the one number that I'm most concerned about.

    Im also deep into the garmin ecosystem but a 20$ amazon scale from china does the same thing. You can get 6 of those for the price of the garmin. ..

    I'm very dissapointed in this scale. it's fat percentage is absolutely wrong to a laughable degree. I had a Dexa scan which showed my fat % at 18.5% and the Garmin scale shows me at more than 27%. That is nonsense. it then uses that number to calculate your fitness metrics like V02 max. I love Garmin but this is one of their biggest fails, totally not worth the money.

    • @jannicktoutouly9245

      Hey man,
      Before you get rid of it, I think you should check out the section of the video around 4:00 Min again. With your more exact dexa scan, you can actually calibrate the scale (readings) to your body in garmin connect. All these 2 point body comp scales have to basically guess your upper body since they can only measure the impedance through your legs, so none will be really accurate. At least with the garmin device, you have the option to feed it more information and you will get truer body comp data afterwards so you can monitor your progress
      Cheers

    • @speedlever
      @speedlever 3 месяца назад

      I also have the $20 Wyze scale which does a decent job. I just got the Garmin S2 today so don’t have any experience with it yet, but I value the Garmin experience and integration with my Epix2 Sapphire watch, Edge 830 cycle computer, and Varia radar taillight. I picked the S2 up on sale for $120 so while it’s still expensive, I really like the integration and especially the customer service experience with Garmin. So I hope the scale lives up to the typical Garmin experience I’ve come to enjoy over the years.

    Garmin Index S2 scale is crap
    This scale is crap and way too expensive for how poor it is. She really disappointed me because she gives the wrong fat ratio. I just had a DXA and Bod Pod measurement, which is the most accurate there is, and I was measured with a 7% body fat percentage. When I have the Garmin Index™ S2 Smart Scale measure me, the scale says I have a body fat percentage of 19%, which is twice the correct amount. This scale cannot be said to be useful as it clearly does not work. Returned and received a new one, but it was not a fault in the scale. The scales are simply not able to measure correctly. I'm told this happens most if people have a very low body fat percentage but a relatively good muscle percentage. If it is the case that the scale cannot handle people of that body type, it should be stated in the instructions, or at least the scale should not be sold under the pretense that it is fairly accurate in estimating body mass ratios when it is not at all. I don't know if it can estimate fat mass in people with a lot of fat, and if it does, the scale should be sold under the sign that it can't accurately estimate fat mass in thin people.
