      You see really well the schreger lines (the typical structure of ivory). So you can differentiate between ivory and petrified wood. In petrified wood you see the typical wood structure with shiny minerals in it.
      I found in my 4th video a wonderful piece of petrified wood 😉

      I don't know many fossil spots in the US (but I know the quarry in Wyoming of course 🤠) You will have lots of fun there! Here in Germany there is a place called "Solnhofen/ Eichstätt" (Bavaria) where you can find relatively similar fossils in limestone. The quarry is world-famous for the Archaeopteryx fossils. But Pterosaurs, crocodiles, turtles, insects,... have been also discovered. I visited these quarries and found 4 fish, lots of ammonites, coprolites, some plants AND a 40 centimeter long squid! (This fossil is really rare and I'm so happy to have this 145 million year old squid in my collection) 👍🏻

    • @fossilwildlife5198

      Hey Dan, these bones are deposits of a river which changes its river course/ position in the last thousands of years. In the gravel pit there is a formation of interglacial period (hippos, aurochs, forest elephant,...) and glacial period (woolly mammoth & rhino, Bison,...)

    • @danc101
      @danc101 3 года назад +1

      @@fossilwildlife5198thanks for your reply. It's interesting to know where you find the bones as I presumed you'd be able to find bones in most rivers. I believe there are some places here in the UK where rivers have changed course thousands of years ago so maybe I might find something 👍

      In Hessen, in den Rheinschottern (Sedimente, die der Rhein in der letzten Eiszeit abgelagert hat) sind Fossilien zu finden. Und in Kiesgruben wird dieser Rheinschotter abgebaut 🤠 Man kann auch direkt an den Ufern der Flüsse auf Fossilien treffen 😉 Danke fürs Zuschauen ✌🏼

      Hi Marc, Danke für deinen Kommentar 👍🏻 Beachte aber auch immer die Gesetze (Denkmalschutzgesetz bzw. Kulturschutzgesetz). Ich weiß, dass die meisten Sammler diese Gesetze nicht beachten. Um ehrlich zu sein, wird das vom Land nicht soo streng genommen (im Vergleich zur Archäologie). Ich kenne die Gesetzgebung in NRW nicht... Müsstest dich mal informieren... Wir wollen doch unsere Sammlungen auf legale Weise aufbauen 😉 Also dann wünsche ich euch viel Erfolg ⛏️🤠
