    Big shoutout to you my friend. For me one of most competent reviewers out there. You take your time, to test your products and you tell us about what you think. You are real, you have the experience and I trust your DJing knowledge entirely. Keep up the good work!

    Thanks for another great review. As a pro dj, I highly respect Chris/Mo's video blogs and reviews, and his impartiality is a refreshing change. We do need diversity in the market of dj media players and mixers. Bring back Citronic and Tandy mixers! On second thoughts....

    allen & heath should make a media player to compete with the cdj. the xone px5 is a great alternative to the djm. I would definitely prefer a full xone rig over a pioneer rig

  • @Reticuli

    The reason "clip" was added was because, as I was telling people including Pioneer's reps, the gain/trims are analog domain with analog inputs while the meters are digital domain and don't show the actual level of the analog inputs. Since Pioneer has the gain/trims pre-ADC rather than fixed input levels and wide input headroom, a separate "clip" indicator is necessary and was long overdo. Every other company with full digital DJ mixers does it with the gain/trims being entirely digital domain, even with analog inputs. While hypothetically Pioneer's method could give better total dynamic range of analog inputs, it being basically an on/off peak light means it's not worth actually trying to achieve such an improvement and is just there to tell you when you're causing problems.

    I never thought I would say this, I am one of those pjs who don't use the crossfader at all on 4 channel mixers. So the FX limitations on the 900 SRT don't affect me, even to this day

    Great review like always. You are the only person who actually mentions sound improvement of this mixer. I am curious how does it stack up against Xone db2/4 regrinding sound?

  • @VelvetBulldozer
    @VelvetBulldozer 6 лет назад +1

    I think it might be an error in describing how the send and return works in terms of post fader effects. I believe that if the RMX is assigned to Master Out, both the up faders for all channels and the cross fader will give effects in post fader mode. You were saying that ONLY the cross fader will offer post fader effects. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks for the reviews.

      @MrDreadwing108 - im pretty sure its pioneers job to make support for the software - the reason they dont do it straight away, is coz they trying to convert everybody to Recordbox DJ software, which in my opinion will soon be better

    Just had my magvel fader go on this unit, it's interesting that on paper pioneer's best crossfader was outlasted by a basic carbon rail system on previous models.

    Mojaxx, a potential reason as to why the VU goes up is that the bands could potentially have a resonance curve

    Good review, agree more competition needed in the player market but also very happy to see a reliable recognised brand pushing for improvements constantly. The price point on the NXS2 is not helpful for a lot of Dj's forcing them into finance rather than purchase - at £10k for 4xCDJ and a DJM its even a fair investment as a hire company.

    Thanks for this! I was in the market to move to a modular set up after selling my SX2 and was debating between this or the original NXS to pair with two Kontrol X1's. I decided to just go ahead and buy a excellent condition 900NXS instead of the newest one because I didn't see much of a dramatic difference over the older one, especially for home use. A bit like the iPhone 6 vs 6S models. The good thing when new high end gear gets released? The standard previous ones go for a total bargain ;). Regardless, I'm sure most clubs will upgrade to these and I wouldn't feel lost if I ever stumble upon them to play on.

      Good points! This one is definitely better, but the original Nexus is still an excellent, high-end mixer. I've used them perfectly happily at many, many gigs over the years.

    So let's say djm 900nx2 sound quality, on a scale of 1-10, is a 10, where would the original 900nexus measure up against it? I have the 900nexus but have my sights on the nexus 2 in the future as soon as they are compatible with traktor / serato . Then again I might just get some 2000 nexus for cheap and call it a day lol. Great review Mojaxx!

    You will have to discuss with every major DJ/Producer in the world for they request and most time demands a Pioneer DJ system. Until that changes, Pioneer will be the club and festival standard DJ system. In the US, no club, venue or festival would dare use another DJ system. Pioneer is it!

    • @philvankamp
      @philvankamp 5 лет назад +1

      No. In some ways that's just plain wrong.
      Pioneer isn't the best on the market, it's just what people are used to. But that definitely doesn't mean they make the best stuff.
      Simple example: CDJ consists of the cheapest and thinest plastic around. Also the inner hardware isn't any kind of "the best of the best". It's cheap at best. But they call a 2500$ price point for ONE piece of this. That's insane!
      Just grab a SC5000 Prime and compare it side by side with the 2000 NXS2. The NXS2 looks and feels sooooooo cheap against the Denon Player - it's ridiculous. And it's nearly 1000$ more expansive than the Denon - per piece! But it's no were near as 1000$ better as the Denon...

  • @VikToreus
    @VikToreus 7 лет назад +1

    Does anyone know if you can customise the resonance for any of the colour FX? For example if you wanted to change the resonance for colour Filter. The new Denon Prime mixers offer this via a utility setting that can be changed via the mixer's LED screen panel

    As i (noob/beginner/livingroom) vinyl spinning DJ (if we can call me a DJ, i can't even beatmix properly) i like the part when he speaks about technics 1200/1210 because I got two of those at home. But if the day come when i leave the vinyl behind me I will probably buy some of pioneers stuff. Only question is, can I afford it?

  • @dsquareddan
    @dsquareddan 8 лет назад +1

    the reason the VU meter increases might be because you have it set to EQ & not Isolator mode on the switch under Booth Monitor volume knob.

    • @Mojaxx
      @Mojaxx 8 лет назад

      It's still reducing the low end by 24db. If you can explain to me why that makes the overall signal louder, I'll be delighted to be corrected! ;)

    • @dsquareddan
      @dsquareddan 8 лет назад

      MojaxxVDJ possibly some resonance around the point of rolloff

    • @Mojaxx
      @Mojaxx 8 лет назад

      +D-Squared That was my suspicion. I haven't found the issue with high-end mixers from other brands I've tested lately, so I feel like Pioneer could probably do more to calibrate the meters to take that into account.

    • @Mojaxx
      @Mojaxx 8 лет назад

      +D-Squared I spend a lot of my time trying to educate DJs about keeping levels in check, and I feel like if meters don't reflect what's really happening with the sound, that's not helping the situation. ;)

    I think Pioneer is over priced personally. I'm glad Denon is making space in the media player world. I have the SC5k and I'm VERY happy with them. I'm actually a bit partial to them. I believe in Denon now, and I want Denon to put some fire under Pioneer by offering superior player tech, for cheaper too! x1800 mixers though I think need more work though, I like how you can link them with the players, but the fx isn't as good as pioneer, the channel faders are a bit stiff for me, and my mixer had a headphone jack issue so I decided I should just return it. It doesn't feel as solid as even the djm700 which was my old mixer. I think I'm going to buy the nxs2 mixer instead, although I need to figure out if it can at least sink bpm with the fx unit on it. Probably not, but it would be nice if it did.

    Great review thanks. I am in the market for a new mixer and deciding between this (DJM900NXS2 and a Xone92). I previously used the 900nxs but do not mind a change. I use Traktor (currently not supported but will be a matter of time) and want to use the RMX1000 and a Boss reverb pedal with the setup on the send/return, maybe others with time. So what are your suggestions/views on which to buy? Thanks in advance

    This is the mixer that I am thinking of getting because of the quality and all the extras. But at the same time it holding me back from getting it because is not Serato Dj compatible and that bad. I already sended a couple of emails to Serato if this mixer is going to be compatible with there software and they reply, just to keep my eyes open on the software up dates. So it looks like it will be compatible. Will see....... Great review Mo

      It's a given that it'll be compatible with serato, traktor even vdj.

    • @Mojaxx
      @Mojaxx 8 лет назад

      +MTLSinCity I'd be surprised if it doesn't get certified for those platforms soon enough, but to say it's 'a given' is to go a bit far. There are no guarantees, which is why I always mention it in reviews. Nobody should buy an expensive product on the assumption it will do something at a later stage.

    • @DJJRCO
      @DJJRCO 8 лет назад

      +MojaxxVDJ True dat, but eventually it'll happen for sure. Those atomix devs gonna support it the second they get hands on one. You know how they are. Serato too on their club kits. N.I given their closed nature I'd be surprised if they didnt. I was with the rane mp2015. But hey you keep it real man with these vids. Great job.

    • @DawnHub666

      Hi, The VU meters are accurate, but you have to know how VU meters and
      equalizers work.
      VU meter does not measure the loudness of the track, it simply reads the
      highest peaks of the signal. Yes, taking out the bass reduces volume,
      but VU meter doesn't represent the actual volume (or perceived
      loudness). The reason why VU meter shows an increase of the signal level
      is in how eq works. When using an equalizer (no matter if you're
      cutting or boosting) you create little phase shifts in the signal and
      this causes it to create little spikes that go over 0dB. ---
      I stole this comment from further up off @Filip Popławski

      Was very curious about this as well! I've used a ton of different mixers as well as many different brands of cdj s and of course pioneer is the club standard anymore but from time to time I come across a Rane mixer and or the worst in my opinion when you come across either a cdj 200 offer Denon CD turntables which I have to say are terrible! The latency is horrendous almost 100%of the times my favorite set up is cdj900 Nexus with the 900 Nexus mixer I have found the latency is near to zero! And it's got every thing you need to mix a fantastic set. I know I have also been spoiled at certain clubs that have cdj 2000 nexus with matching mixer. But I have only come across 1 club in my area that has had the 2000 and was not the nexus but oh well it was such a smooth mixer and felt snappy if that made or makes any since! I personally know that I and most of my friends love the 900 Nexus for both cdjs and mixer as I own a refurbished sweety that I have yet to have any issues with. Of course I practice on a set of JBL monitors and the range is enough that I will be able to get a good enough preview of my set. But I find it quite funny cause I will map out a banger set but never play that during my sets cause you gotta play with the crowd. I pray we all get back too club land soon!

      @@DawnHub666 thanks mate Ben playing his since early 2000s and never caught onto this reminds me of what happens in your D.A.W.S. when you E.Q. or mix down and you have to compress or limit it so you don't get any huge spikes when pulling bass out quickly.

    Question: Hi Mojax, Is it possible to run a DVS setup with TwoTurntables and integrate the Traktor D2's with DVS thus allowing the Mixer to control Traktor's sound and still have the D2 control Traktor desk browsing and have the DJM900NXS2 effect apply to the Traktor sound outputs post fader?
    I know its a mouthful just looking to intergrade Traktor D2 into a DVS setup with the DJM900NXS2 and still utilize all the DJM900NXS2 functions as well as Traktor's functions via the D2

      It's such a weird change! I'm sure I could get used to it over time, but it'll never make sense to me.
      As for the 64 vs the NXS2 - depends on your choice of platform. The 64 is far superior in many respects for a Serato user, the NXS2 for Rekordbox DJ, or CDJs generally.

    • @cun7us

      Allen & Heath are known to have superior sound quality to Pioneer mixers.

    • @Reticuli
      @Reticuli 7 лет назад +1

      If you are going into a sound system digital main board or a DSP, then I think even the DJM800 handles its own digitally against the analog Xones going into such a digital system. People have varying opinions concerning how the analog Xones stacked up still if you were using the analog ins and/or outs on the DJM800 and DJM900Nexus. Some were piping the Pioneers into outboard DACs. Now, the DJM800 did not stack up well compared to the digital mixers from Denon, Rane, and A&H even bypassing the AD & DA conversion. So between Pioneer's lackluster processing and the analog Xones still being preferred by some people over the Pioneer converters, Pioneer seem to have pushed its product line with the DJM900NXS2 in an effort to better compete. My question now is, how does the DJM900NXS2 compare to the previously-king digital mixer models when run entirely digitally?

      not currently, it only supports rekordbox right now without the use of another interface. it may become available in a firmware update later on

    • @tdxownyou
      @tdxownyou 2 года назад

      I believe it has to do with his way of mixing. His channel 2 is on crossfader a side and channel 3 is on crossfader b side. He will always put the crossfader in the middle when blending but when he needs to scratch, it's ready for him.

    Hey I am new to djing and obviously this is the high end equipment which comes at an extremely high price. Which equipment do you recommend I use to start. I would say that I'm not clueless about djing as I understood 95% of what you said and understand the music production side, but haven't had any practice. Any advice for which equipment I should get?

      I would recommend a controller
      have a look at the different kind of software
      as in serato or traktor ect.
      and the controllers available for that specific software
      and see what you like

      Maxim verhoeven ive just been looking into it and i think that controllers, which need a laptop, also need a software to dj with. but i know this might sound stupid, but i thought djing was with a mixer, like the one in this video, and was a tabletop turner, like the cdj 2000 nexus i think its called? i might be wrong but this is type of djing i want to do, any advise?

    • @maximverhoeven86

      +Eric Boisson well a controller basically does the same what you might be able to do is by older cdj's and use time code with a external soundcard although this might be expensive

    • @maximverhoeven86

    • @buddyblader3183

      It depends on how much you like to shape your mixes/transitions. Xone is going to give you more versatility if you like doing long transitions or if you're doing live production. Pioneer is the new club staple because they're slightly more intuitive due to their more simplistic controls.

      @@Nikki-pf5cj You won't be disappointed! I have a 92 going into a Scarlett 18i20 and couldn't be happier. For some reason, I've been cruising around YT these last 24 hours trying to convince myself of why I need a newer scratch oriented mixer to be able to be more creative with trip-hop mixes, but I already put an Innofader in this beast, so I have yet to find anything to prove why it's not already everything I need for anything from hip hop to techno. Have fun!

    The fx suck in DJMs IMO. Some sound ok but others like reverb and phaser sound terrible.

    • @oscarhodson6265
      @oscarhodson6265 4 года назад

      I’ve never found any issue with the FX. If your wanting the FX to sound better make sure the beat grid and BPM of the track your adding FX to is perfect otherwise effects won’t sound good. If your using rekordbox try to reduce the parameter of the FX. Make sure you only add little amounts of FX like Reverb - as Reverb is very ‘strong’ and can sound very bad when the FX level is made too high. Try using reverb with a high resonance filter (change the parameter of the colour) and add a little HPF. Hope this was helpful!

      @@oscarhodson6265 Compared to guitar pedals or even Traktor's FX, they sound pretty horrible. I'm aware of how to use Pioneer FX, I just don't like them.
