UYY A MI ME ENCANTA TAMB
That “¡Ay que lindo!” In my opinion, is the cutest phrase Luz has ever said on the show ^^
Thats true
just for everyone:
"Luz" means "light" in Spanish which makes it so really cute when she says: "deja una >Luz< puesta para mi" leave a light on for me) and also when someone says: "eres la >luz< de mi vida" (you are the light of my life) ,
but that's just my fantasy of amity saying this...
I drew a pic of amity saying "luz you are the light of my life" and it was funny.
But luz is an actual name when somebody says deja una luz prendida they actually mean that
LIMON CON ACEITE
and when Eda said "Luz made Light" in portuguese it stays "Luz fez luz" or "Luz hay hecho luz", sorry im new with Spanish words
@@Bruna-jq7dz In spanish is "Luz ha hecho luz"

SAME
I like that there aren't subtitles when she speaks Spanish. It makes the language more a part of Luz's world and indirectly reinforces it as part of the audience's world, rather than something the audience isn't expected to understand. Like with good LGBT representation, the foreign language is just there, not something to gawk at.
I love it too. I'm trying to catch up in my spanish class that ive had a hard time focusing on (bc of my adhd, not for lack of wanting to learn) but when i realized my studying had paid off and i could actually recognize some words and understand the grammar when luz spoke in spanish gave me such a rush. Like, i feel like i know her better as a character.
Now im rewatching the show with the spanish dub on disney+ bc its motivating me to expand my vocabulary.
That and the spanish dub feels so natural for luz.
Starting to learn Spanish.
Yo hablo español.
Not so much. But it was a shock when I could recognize when Luz said lo siento!
Finally, I am be able to understand another new language. Not English not Chinese nor japanese, it's something else, completely brand-new.
bro solo son subtítulos, no es para tanto
You won't miss much by not understanding it either. It's more just reinforcing that Spanish is a very familiar language to her. Either spoken in the house or her first.
I agree completely! It does annoy me that if you turn on captions, so I can look up phrases to help me, the captions *literally* say "(Speaking Spanish)". Like, they couldn't decide whether to translate in captions or leave it untranslated.

now imagine Amity learning Spanish to impress Luz. Like imagine a scenario when Amity is looking for a book/scroll in the library (I know that they probably don’t even know about spanish on the boiling isles but perhaps amity is very desperate to impress luz and finds a way?) to learn Spanish and Luz catching her and thinking she’s just interested in the language and ends up helping her.

For those who did not understand "Mija" well, we must break down the word into "Mi" and "Hija"
Mi hija
Means
My daughter
However, many Spanish speakers speak or pronounce Spanish very fast
Therefore, being a Fast language, sometimes we put words together
Because the H is silent and we are left with "Mi ija" we put both words together and we get:
Miija
Since the i is repeated, we leave only one, and it remains like this
Mija
This also applies to boys, because instead of hija it is said hijo
Mijo
Generally, Latin Americans from countries in the north of the Americas usually say it

Yo soy Boliviano :D
Even though I am not hispanic, nor do I speak any Spanish beyond a few words, I absolutely LOVE how they have her speak Spanish without the need for subtitles.
The writing with her is so good that even I, a non-Spanish-speaker, was able to understand essentially all of her little bits of Spanish, such as when she grabs King and exclaims how cute he is, as the way she says it and the following words she says about how cute he is informs the viewer that she was calling him cute or adorable in Spanish.
This allows Spanish speaking viewers a more accurate depiction of a Dominican-American teenager, while not making her speech unrecognizable to those who cannot speak Spanish.
This is perhaps the best example of how to write inclusivity with characters who speak a language other than English, without excluding English viewers or requiring subtitles.

As a Hispanic, listening to others speak Spanish is so satisfying. Especially with their accents on point
I'm not hispanic myself, nor do I speak spanish, but I get really happy whenever Luz speaks spanish. It's so nice and refreshing to see a hispanic character in a cartoon. And another thing I love, is that one of my friends is spanish, and he gets really excited whenever she does! He hasn't been happy in a long time, but it seems that whenever he hears Luz speak spanish, he brightens up a bit more.
I discovered I'm Hispanic and this makes so happy!
0:55 No accent detected. 0:57 That was not a "Si", that was "See!". Luz's accent in spanish isn't that of a native speaker.
Camila's voice actress does a better job though.
0:55 Yeah same! I don't know if it's because I don't speak Spanish but I literally didn't hear any accent
That's because Luz was raised in united states I guess, she's english native. That's why she has some gringo accent when she speaks spanish.
Her mom should have more accent because she's a native latina
@@pelotudasincerebro5399 It's still jarring. I don't think someone who is english native would spout spanish randomly though.
@@jascrandom9855 It's actually normal for bilingual people to switch momentarily when we A) are caught off-guard or in a bust of emotion, like with King or B) have given up on the conversation, like with Hooty. In the "Sí" case I can tell you that I have actually slipped one or two words mid explanation, although only once or twice. Recently I was explaining something to a colleague and a "Siempre"(always) slipped. Keep in mind that although I was not raised speaking English I've spoken it fluently for several years and work every day with native speakers, it's not something that happens because I'm not used to the language.
In any case I would bet it's "see" if only because it's the easiest explaination. When you are trying to convice someone/yourself you use "see?" at the beggining and that "Sí" doesn't make sense either in English or Spanish.
Luz's accent when speaking spanish is very much that of someone that learned from either a Dominican or Venezuelan, even if they are not native themselves. This matches with Luz's character as she's suposed to be Dominican. Now I don't know where did Luz's actress learn fluent spanish (which she speaks) but she did a hell of a job matching the dominican accent if it's not the one of whoever taught her.

I wanna see more of Luz speaking Spanish and everyone being like what she saying
reminds me of my girlfriend who grew up speaking spanish. she mixes spanish phrases into her english, sometimes she forgets an english word for something and it’s the cutest thing ever.
Being Hispanic is one of the many things I relate to with Luz, I love it when she speaks Spanish. ¡Gracias por el vídeo!
I love how the show doesn’t automatically add subtitles. We live in a country where a notable percent of the population speaks Spanish, and sometimes you just hear people speaking in another language you don’t understand, and that’s okay. The Spanish they use in the show does come in short bursts, though, so it’s not hard to look up the words, and we always do have a context, which would make it easier to understand the point when she speaks Spanish.
