    Hi there, watching from New Zealand . I learned to spin on an Ashford wheel 2 years ago and let me tell you, the fun never stops . The only thing at the start is you must put the hours in to make progress. I joined a local group and watched heaps of You Tube, but it’s still time with your hands and the wool that make the difference. Go for it, you’ll never look back.

    Thanks a lot for your lovely podcast. ❤ I watched it while working on my actual sweater-spin. 😊 I learned spinning on a Bliss from Woolmakers. Now I use most of the time the Ashford Espinner. In my opinion spinning is like knitting: practice is the key. I also started with "schwangeren Regenwürmern". 😂 Now I like my yarns and enjoy knitting with them so much, that I don't buy yarn any more. 😊 Keep on going and happy spinning.👍

    Hi, Kathryn! I just found you tonight and really enjoyed your podcast! I live in San Francisco, just south of your sister. Trust me, when that fog rolls in, it gets to be freezing!! We also have chilly nights in the winter. This winter, we had more rain than Seattle. You can be sure that if you knit for your Cali family, the pieces will get worn. Really enjoyed hearing about your travels, yarn haul, spinning and WIPs. That Art Nouveau looks amazing! I just finished a test knit for James N Watts and am now finishing a Mutch Shawl by Isabell Kraemer (in Nutiden) and a Tegna by Caitlin Hunter (a tee knit in a linen/cotton chainette yarn I dyed myself). I could have used that Nutiden shawl tonight, it was freezing, 57 degrees! Anyway, I look forward to watching all your episodes and thanks for putting out such fun content!

    For a second, I thought that was Stephen West in the first shot of the yarn store. I’ve been to Stephen & Penelope it was lovely. Amsterdam was a great stop after our time in Shetland for Wool Week and I went with a friend who lived there so she knew exactly where to take me. My favorite book as a child was Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. I grew up in New England (Rhode Island) so it was a popular book there. I’ve been in California since 1988 and have lived mostly in Northern CA near San Francisco but have moved to the San Diego area. Lovely peonies behind you! I’m currently swatching for a Gansey for my husband, decided on the New Haven.

    • @madebymoomeeno
      @madebymoomeeno  4 месяца назад

      Haha :) I have been there many times and have sadly never run into Mr West :) Shetland Wool Week is the dream! It must have been so much fun! I love Little Women as well but it wasn't until I was studying Literature at university that I realised the significance of Concord and the links to Emerson, Thoreau and the Transcendentalists. It is such an important little book :) Thank you so much for watching 🥰

    I’m from upstate New York, south of the Adirondacks and north of the Catskills in a little old Dutch Hudson River valley town. Sounds cuter than it is. 😄 I’m working on using my sweater quantity stash to make some simple top down pullovers and cardigans. Just finished the Finial Cardigan by Estelle (added sleeves) cardigan with 1 strand of Tulip fingering held with a strand of Snow mohair from Barnyard Knits. Also crocheting granny squares to make a retro pullover. 🤷🏻‍♀️ And knitting a very basic dark blue pullover. Enjoying your videos! My favorite books as a child were The Littles, I think. Thanks for sharing your story.

    Your Art Nouveau sweater looks amazing! I am Dutch, so I will help you a little bit 😀. Wol = wool, met verve is with passion, exaltation, zest. You say Sheepjes, but there is that C in it. CH make a sound that isn't used in most languages, it is a bit like a roaring dog. Just try it, ggrr from the back of your throat 🤣. You'll get the hang of spinning, it's building muscle memory built through repetition and time at the wheel, and most people do not come out of the gate doing it well. The best advice I received was to get something such as Corriedale, Falkland, or Cheviot (medium wools in a top preparation) and spin a pound of it. Art yarn is highly technical and as someone who is quite consistent it humbled me greatly when I took a workshop, even more so than when I learned to spin. Tour de Fleece is starting at the end of the month, that's a great time to build consistency at the wheel. I learned on a Babe (I'm shocked I continued), but my Lendrum was the wheel I learned consistency with. I currently have a Lendrum, an Ashford Elizabeth, Ashford Traditional, an Ashford E3, a Matchless, and a vintage Norwegian wheel named the Norwegian Princess. I'm gifting a vintage Ashford Traditional to my sister to learn on, and that's an excellent wheel for beginners, very little bells and whistles. The Ashford Kiwi you're learning on is also really nice wheel to learn on, as there's not much to it.

    • @madebymoomeeno
      @madebymoomeeno  4 месяца назад

      That is such a good idea to participate in Tour de Fleece, and thank you so much for the fibre and wheel tips; I genuinely appreciate it. I am determined to get the hang of it and it is so much fun to try even it if it is a bit frustrating at the moment! Thank you so much for watching 🥰

    Greetings from SE of Sth Australia. Beginning of winter, beautifully mild but cold. I am a die-hard knitter, prior spinning and weaving which Im not good at, sitting on the backburner. Knitting for my prem granddaughter the Sunday Suit, Petite Knits and have finished the Tulip Dress by Knitting for Olive. I dont understand the alogorithm of RUclips to not see your episodes before. Is the unspun you are referring to similar to the Plutopi plates? I have the Ashford Joy 2 which is foldable to carry in its own travel bag. Visited Amsterdam but at night when the shops were closed. Not sure if Stephen and Penelope existed 2019?

      Yes, the algorithms are a mystery to me too, so thank you for finding me! The unspun I am wearing in the episode is plates from Woollentwine but yes, it's kind of similar although the plutolopi is much more rustic. My favourite unspun is Nutiden and I will definitely talk more about it on future episodes. Have fun knitting for your beautiful new granddaughter 🥰
