I’m a random Italian guy who has been living in the UK since a decade. I have friends from all over the world and my best friend is Indian. However, over the years I discovered how similar French and Italian people are. We both love spending time with friends at dinner in front of a bottle of wine, we both like quality food and we also both like dressing decently in every occasion. Last but not least, we both like chatting about more sophisticated topics (art, politics and ideals, big problems, etc.). I love France!
I think, there is a lot in common (though; even as an Italian FOOTIE ("Soccer"/"Calcio"_ fan); I do not like dressing -up: too much/if @ all!! (I am "1/2 Indian" and LOVE_ ITALIAN_ "Soccer"="CALCIO!!").
You compared Paris to Rome. Not France to Italy. France is not neccessarly more expensive than Italy. Paris is. Many places in France are not expensive. Italian cheese is as good as the French, if not better. The weather... You compared Paris to Rome not France to Italy... Style and fashion: again you compared Paris to Rome, you completely forgot Milan. I agree about infrastructures, especially trains(even if there are big differences between northern Italy and southern Italy) . Trains in France are excellent and even cheaper than other excellent train services( England). Weird thing: Italy built its motorways BEFORE France and they were excellent at first: than a luck of maintenance and bad administration has brought to the present shitty situation.

im shock a 3 star hotel in Europe is only 100 to 150 dollars. I travel in very poor cities in Asia and rooms can be 100 dollars per night. Is that really true??? 100 per night, I can go to Italy and not sleep in the park to save money.
You missed some points. Especially the fact that Italian trains are among the fastest in the world 350km\h. And the fashion point. Milan is recognized as the capital of the fashion in all the world. Major brands such as: Gucci, Dolce e Gabbana, Bottega veneta, Armani, Off white, Napijiri, Ray Ban, Fendi, Ferragamo, Bulgari and many more are Italian. And again, the price thing. You can’t compare prices in that way (for hotels). Hotels in Rome are cheaper than hotels in more beautiful places such as Capri or Ischia, for example. But overall I agree upon the fact that Italian and French people are all alike. And, with the rest of your comparison. Love France from Italy 🇮🇹

My mum is French and my dad is Italian, so I am 50/50, I have double nationality and lived for years in both countries. I loved them both. @@mae5657 Maybe I did not express myself at best sorry (English is my 3rd language). What I wanted to say is that Italians often tend to 'look down on' French. It is not rare at all that Italians say 'French are snobby and dirty' for example. Italians say that French think to be better than everyone else (which of course it is a stereotype and not true. Like everywhere else you can find some good people and some bad people). They also ask me if I clean myself properly because I'm French and in France is not common to find bidet in toilets. And this is funny since I know that bidet are rather uncommon in many countries (Germany, UK, Denmark,..) but Italians mainly laugh about French being dirty and not using bidet. Italians also tell me many other negative comments (e.g. French food is disgusting, French is worse at football,..) I bet that the most hated country for Italians is France ahaha. On the other hand, French people actually don't care if I'm Italian or not and many of them are even happy/curious to know it and ask me about Italian food recipes, Italian songs, best place to visit in Italy in my opinion,....

I'm one of those lucky people who has recently spent 1 year in Italy (Verona) and 1 year in France (Grenoble), as part of my University studies. Your list is very accurate. Italian people can become like a family to you, I have had a lot of support from my professors and friends. In France it's not that easy, people are more distanced, although not exactly rude, so the French stereotype is not always true. France is investing a lot more in science and infrastructure, but Italy is trying as well. I prefer Italian food and I think Italy is more beautiful. French people have a more opened mentality and seem to be less religious. In both countries their English sucks, I'm not sure where it sucks the most. However, with Italians I usually communicate in Italian, and I'm studying French recently to avoid speaking English in France. Italy always feels like home, I don't know why, maybe because I come from nearby Albania. In France I feel good and it's true that they value personal space and privacy, but you can make good friends there. One thing that they have in common is that in both countries you can talk about politics, you can openly be left-wing, right-wing, center, religious, atheist. In other European countries (e.g. Belgium and northern countries) people avoid these topics, which is kind of annoying. I must say I was really blessed for spending two good years in these countries. Hopefully, I might move to Paris this year (if NYC doesn't steal me first) and if I do, it's certain that I will visit Italy a lot of times. These countries are the heart of Europe and their languages are the most beautiful in the world.

Briefly, France has been influenced by all its neighbors. And conversely, France has influenced its neighbors.
@m n No it was actually stolen. Genova sold it, but Nice didn't agree. Also, France forced Nice to vote for the remaining, with a fake referendum, and subdued the population culturally in many ways. All the people had to choose between the option of changing their surnames or abandoning the city for example. Most of the population was replaced by French people
@m n If what you say was actually true, France didn't need a referendum to legitimate the annexation. But obviously what are you saying is pretty incorrect
@m n So to justify your ignorance about this argument we are taking this on personal? Now you are assuming that I'm a little nationalistic Italian with ancestors from Nice? Don't you find all of this kind of pathetic dude? I'm not saying that you are an idiot French that didn't finish primary school, just because you can't discern between a form of oppression over a population and a legitimate trade between two entities. Do you know the trade of slaves, which is the most similar trade, in this case, was not kind of legitimate and accepted in Europe during the 19th century? I should consider the fact that "stolen" it's not the most appropriate word, indeed it was taken by force. And, before you repeat that Genova gave it, it's not Genova the matter, but the inhabitants of Nice and their rights to preserve their culture at least... not even their nationality, but their culture, can you understand this? The concept of culture?

Italy is a micro-world on its own, North and South are so different both in culture and ethnicity. 80% surrounded by sea, 20% by the Alps, it offers so much diversity you won't find anywhere else in the world. It's the country of Mafia, but also of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Gucci, Versace and so on. Italy made the history of Western Civilization. Pizza, Pasta, Cappuccino, Panettone, Wine. Italy exported their way of living food to the rest of the world. What's not to like.
In principle, your video is correct. In principle though, as there’s a number of things I don’t necessarily agree with. 1. Infrastructure: it largely depends on the area of the country you consider - namely in northern Italy it can be extremely good and also don’t forget that Italy has built and it’s already currently building a certain amount of high speed railway lines and I believe it’s one of the very top in the world on this. 2. People - I don’t necessarily agree with the fact that French seem to be colder and more reserved than Italians. Whilst it’s true that Italians in general might seem more welcoming, this is also highly stereotypical as in northern Italy people tend to be immensely reserved (at times I feel it ways more than certain areas of France) and also very individualistic and enjoying their private lives/paces. 3. GDP - Whilst I don’t necessarily agree with this specific measure to quantify the wealth of a country and its general quality of life, let us not forget that there are regions in Italy (for example Lombardy, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, Trentino-Alto Adige or Tuscany) which have a higher GDP that many other European countries, including French regions. 4. Climate - Once again it depends on the area you consider. Whilst it’s true that France is generally more rainy and colder, you’re only considering Paris compared to Rome. I find Milan, the city I come from, to be at times colder than Paris. I generally felt colder in Milan than Paris, when I traveled there. The video is in itself relatively realistic. However I had the feeling throughout that the comparison was mainly between Rome and Paris, rather than Italy and France. Certain things were true, however others I believe were still quite stereotypical. I met a lot of French people and I don’t find them colder than us Italians at all. Actually I found them pretty friendly. Whereas it’s definitely not the case that all us Italians are extremely welcoming as it largely depends on where you come from, which is something the video didn’t talk about and regional differences, at least in Italy, are still very present. Other than that, I still believe that France is the closest culture you can get to Italy in Europe. Spain also, but the refinement of Italian and French cultures HAVE NO COMPARISON in the whole world. Viva l’Italia and vive la France! 🇮🇹🇫🇷
totally agree! There are more differences between the Italian regions than between Italy and France ... but in the end this is also what makes Italy wonderful!
@Antoine B de M I believe that Parisian sky can get quite grey and, as you pointed out, oppressive. But I don’t think Milan’s is any better. Trust me when I tell you that days can pass in Milan, especially in autumn and winter, without seeing the sun. At all. And let’s not even mention the fog, which in the Po Valley is still very present. The point is that it lacks of sense to compare just 2 cities of a country, pretending that they reflect and incorporate the whole country’s identity. Especially in the case of large and diverse Nations like Italy and France. Having said this, France still remains the closest country you can get to Italy and viceversa. Perhaps not all of it. But I can assure that, if you speak with a Lombard or a Piedmontese person, you’d find very few, almost 0 differences (other than the language itself) than if you spoke with a Parisian.
As Italian I can't say noting negative. I love both countries for all the resons. I rally like french language and food. Our countries are unique and I'm proud of these. Love France and Italy. 😘

I'm definitely french (and not proud of it, I don't care).. but Italy is probably the closest country in my mind. Both are not cousins as you say but brothers (or sisters). I feel home every time I go there (culture, art, language, food, mentality). In fact... last time I went to Pompei (not for the first time). One house has just opened after some wonderful frescoes got restored. I spent half an hour to look at them, crying. A watchman just approached and asked me "are you french ?" (in italian, I speak the language a little) I answered, "yes"... And he added... "of course you're french, only french people have the same passion as we have..."

Trains in Italy are no longer out of schedule. This is an old stereotype which was valid 20 years ago or so. The majority of Italian trains (both high speed trains or regional) is punctual. The railway system works almost perfectly and it's also inexpensive compared to other European railways. I travelled by train across all of the 20 regions of Italy. In the south the railway system is outdated but this is another story. The timetable is reliable.
I have to add- my last visit to Italy was last summer- south of Italy and islands and I though the trains and traffic, in general, will be a mess, but no/ everything was very punctual. Chaotic (but just becAuse i don’t speak italian), but very accurate. That was probably the biggest surprise from the trip
i often come to northern italy and NEVER had even one issue with schedule. and this is cheap. don't know from where this rumor exists but this is not true.
What I found interesting from this clip is that the French view on Italy is mostly positive but the Italian view on France is mixed, yet the Italians think the French are snobby. There is some irony in that.

Excellent train service in England? Are you kidding?
been France 5 times and 10 times in Italy and I’ve been to many other cities than Paris and Rome.. Unfortunately I didn’t make a lot of video from my previous visits, only pictures
I agree. It seems you compared only the capitals and not the whole countries.
im shock a 3 star hotel in Europe is only 100 to 150 dollars.

Interesting but why do italians make fun of you for being french ?
French food is disgusting, French is worse at football,..)
I bet that the most hated country for Italians is France ahaha.

Like all the neighbors, we tend to compete and a little to tease each other, but in the end we love each other and recognize our special link of ancient familiarity. Greetings from Rome.
Im Italian and even though we say we dislike the French, we really like them and understand we are similar in many many aspects, the beef mostly comes from sports and a willingness to compete in food and wine exports and such. massive hug to any French person reading this.
Its nice to hear that. Because sometimes, we think that Italian people hate us 😅
I think France is sister with all its neighbors, if you are in the North is a bit Flemish, in Lille, if you are in Strasbourg is a bit German, if you are in Nice is a bit Italian, if you are in Montpellier or Toulouse it is a bit catalan Spanish, if you are in Brittany is a bit Celtic, Biarritz a bit Basque.
Briefly, France has been influenced by all its neighbors. And conversely, France has influenced its neighbors.
Nice was actually Italian indeed. It's a stolen city
@m n Ok, but Nice was actually Italian until 1862 and was forced to become French. Most of the inhabitants emigrated to Italy, in order to avoid this
@m n No it was actually stolen.
The French and the Italians, especially the northern Italians, are brothers and are very similar culturally. Southern Italians are more closer to Greeks.

South Italy it's no REAL Italy.....Real Italy is only North wirh Center. South it's ONLY Kingdom of Naples !
I'm from Lombardy too and I highly agree: the video seems more like South Italy vs South France+Paris.
totally agree!

I am Italian and I walked in Montmaitre in winter, in the morning.. light mist, biting but pleasant cold, warm and welcoming bars.. the most beautiful place in the world 🇫🇷❤️
as a french i always considered italy as the most similar country of mine. they bring us food and plate and roman influence in france is huge. don't imagine france within this influence.
"of course you're french, only french people have the same passion as we have..."
wow..🥺❤️ i’m passionate about history too and i’m italian, i also studied latin ( i can translate little texts) because latin is studied by every italian in highschool
I think Italy is the most beautiful country in Europe, greetings from Turkey. 🥰
Thanks turkey 💜loveee
CAN YAMAN AND OUR DILETTA LEOTTA😍
I'm italian, and sadly it's true, most of the italians hate other countries like France or Germany for trivial reasons like "France stole the Mona Lisa", when in reality they just bought it ;-;
@Giorgio Royaume I'm French and everybody know it was painted in Italy and gifted to our king tbh, I hope the mentalities will change (even if there's a lot of Italians liking France, Especially in Toscana and the north). Imparando l'italiano, lunga vita all'Italia e alla Francia 🇫🇷❤️🇮🇹

I found French people nicer than Italians
@@makreacts8045 100% you went to North Italy and never went to South,
@@makreacts8045 It probably depend where, Parisians aren't really nice in general lol. And people in Toscana are really nice! I went there maybe 4 times when I was young and always managed to make friends even if we didn't speak the same language and I was sometimes 3 or 4 years younger but they didn't care, I was like the young brother :)
Im from south of France so naturally i feel Closer to italy or spain... When i was visited some cities in italy i feel like home but the people are more welcoming and helpful that us french 😅
Love both from Romania! 😊 👌
1) I'm Italian and love France and the French, I always feel at home there and think our cousins beyond the Alps are generally friendly; 2) Italian trains aren't that bad, c'mon - they're usually pretty punctual and cheaper than in many other places in Europe
I know both countries enough to say that many Italians hate France for all kinds of stupid reasons. These haters are going to troll this comments section🤢
Respect France 🇫🇷from Zurich🇨🇭
As an Italian I would like to visit France , I wish this pandemic is gonna end
Ti accolgo a casa mia
Trains in Italy are no longer out of schedule. This is an old stereotype which was valid 20 years ago or so. The majority of Italian trains (both high speed trains or regional) is punctual. The railway system works almost perfectly and it's also inexpensive compared to other European railways. I travelled by train across all of the 20 regions of Italy. In the south the railway system is outdated but this is another story. The timetable is reliable.
I'd agree with you. Probably we both live in the north though 😂
Stronzata totale
What I found interesting from this clip is that the French view on Italy is mostly positive but the Italian view on France is mixed, yet the Italians think the French are snobby. There is some irony in that.
I think your video is pretty accurate having lived in France and been to Italy many times. Both places are wonderful but different.
