Middleton knows every nook and cranny of St Joe County and seems to know every person who has ever lived there. I grew up one county over in Berrien Cty. St Joe has a much smaller population than Berrien but 60 000 people is still a ton for one person to know. I watch him every day and am constantly astonished by who/what he knows. Probably why he's had that seat on the bench for a long time.
Way too funny...your commentary w the "we can do this til the cows come home" cracked me up....not as much as on the corner of "tumble weed road & dodge city avenue"....rural is an understatement!!!
My parents, my brother and I lived on the perimeter of a cattle pen. Every once in a while, the cows would get loose and rampage through the flower beds in the middle of the night. lol My brother and I would listen to our parents and the all the neighbors try to help the owner drive the cattle back into the field. It was hilarious! I had no idea they were aiding and abetting a cattle-at-large criminal. 😂 I loved living in the country.
We live in a small town with a pet cow and horse behind our house with houses beside and in front. We have to keep padlocks on the gates. People have unlocked and opened gates before. Luckily both animals come back to sweet feed in a bucket. We also have insurance on the farm so if they do get hit it’s covered
This is different for me. I am used to Open Range out West where cows have the right of way. If you hit a cow on the road, your responsible for damage or death of the cow.

You know you are in the "boondocks" when the crossroads are Buckhorn and Muskrat! I have my own loose cow story. I work on the RR these days (long story how I ended up there), and on one trip home, the dispatcher contacts my train and tells us to "look out for cows on or about the tracks at milepost 109". I tell the dispatcher we will and will let him know if we encounter anything. My engineer looks at me and asks, "Isn't that why we have a cowcatcher?" (We call the snowplow a cowcatcher.) I said, "You have a point there. Give it another notch!"
I laughed so hard this morning! That poor guy had 20 cameras and they only cover 90 feet. But he told the judge he might hire a private investigator. I anout fell out when he told Judge Middleton that he would have to shoot him to prove he was there but he can't do that. He tried to get pictures of yhe guy but itsnot easy! Lol 😆🤣😂
In the 28 years that I actively farmed, I can recall only a couple of occasions when I had multiple cows out. There were a few occasions when a calf or a cow were out. I have a neighbor who lives about 14 miles from his farm who had cattle out numerous times ... and his farm borders a highly traveled highway.
I had a escape artist dog that I couldn’t contain during bad weather. It was like the three little pigs where I would try bigger and stronger materials to no avail. She was known throughout the neighborhood and I remember thinking I could get sued if she hurt someone or even was hit by a car but I could not send her “ off to a farm” like a responsible person should have.
I grew up in a village, that expanded to a city. When I was a kid you could walk two blocks and learn to milk cows and shoe horses, help cull chickens etc. Then 3 blocks into town is a university where I learned about opera, pottery, and everything in between. This is fascinating, watching the court end of things. Thanks Mike !!
