    Why aren't the central banks which are all doing Nirp considered to be a deadweight loss? Serious question. I guess someone will say that they're inviolable or sacrosanct because someone created little pieces of paper (laws/exemptions) and placed them inside of fancy buildings (which grants them the rights to do these things). Simply put, better than the rest of us and therefore not held accountable for anything, ever.

    Explanation looks incomplete to me. Lets take the bus example. But if I have 50$ but the bus cost me 60$ due to tax, they say it is not made up for in value because there is no revenue, but i will still spend it on something else (maybe i go to a restaurant instead).
    I dont study Economics, I study competition law and so Im trying to understand why monopolies are bad. Sofar I havent come across any good explanation.

      @@videakias3000 That was not a free market failure. The president of Atari was inside trading, which led to a bubble, which led to a collapse. The only reason free markets work is because nobody has the advantage. Milton Friedman famously said "You have to choose if you are pro business, or pro free market." That was a result of someone being pro business, not a free market failure.

    Can you calculate the dead-weight loss of African Americans being disenfranchised, disproportionately targeted by the prison industrial complex and generally the unwillingness of White America to invest & treat them just like they would treat their own fellow white Americans.

      C. Lincoln - Here’s a fun fact: deadweight loss doesn’t happen without government intervention... situation is applicable here too. Government has always been the deadliest and most discriminatory organization, and people want to give it MORE value.

      negative externalities happen without government intervention

    • @Boristien405
      @Boristien405 6 лет назад

      jffryh - They can. That doesn’t mean the deadweight loss we are talking about will happen. In a perfectly competitive market, DWL is impossible. And monopolies have no history of taking form without the help of government.
