So junoon is probably one of the two most influential bands in Pakistani music history. They are considered the first true rockstars of Pakistan and gained international acclaim for their (then) unique method of mixing traditional pakistani/sufism and western rock musical themes. They are the band that popularized sufism and rock music together in pakistan and thus inspired the generations to come to do the same thing (what you see in coke studio and nescafe basement are a direct reflection of junoons influence). The other band that shaped modern pakistani music, and probably the biggest act in pakisan's rich history is Vital Signs. They dominated the 90s in Pakistan and were basically the beatles. They were more considered pop, but they definitely had rock influences and the lead singer Junaid Jamshed is absolutely legendary.
This is just scratching the surface, so many other bands you guys need to check out, alot of this style of music will have old analogue setup music, as tech came late to Pakistan. You are misisng the best of Coke Studio in my opnion, Rohail's era. I love the new stuff but the magic of the old days is something else entirely, the quality used to consistently high. Rung (Hadiqa Kiani, Season 5). Psychedelic insanity. And you have to listen to Hadiqa, one of our greatest. 3. Miyan Ki Malhar (Season 6). How does one decrible this masterpeice? Nothing beats a good Ghazal. 14. Aaye Kuch Abr (Atif Aslam, season 12). Another Ghazal. And wow, pure musical bliss. 15. Isqh Aap Bhi Awalla (Meesha Shafi, Season 5). Pakistani Folk at its best. And this is just a bit of coke studio (so many gems left). And there is music outside of it that is just as much mesmerizing and beautiful. From the magic of the old in Junaid Jamshed, Strings, Noori, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Abida, Sajjad, Kaavish, Nazia, Attahullah to modern in Sketches, Bayaan, Kashmir and so many more. I'll write abound bands in a new post. The thing about Pakistani music that makes it so special is that it speaks to your soul. Love watching you both commentating on music, it's always so fun.
The 1st song : time signature is called teora. Rhytms in indian and pakistani music are considered to be cyclic. And teora has 3 sections in a cycle. Then repeat. The 1st section has 3 beats, 2nd section 2 beats, 3 rd section 2 beats. I don't know enough about western or English rhytm system to know if these "uneven" or vishamapadi rhytms are present in western music or not.Fun fact this is rhythm of the song Sherya sing in berkly. You have reacted to it. The lines are " aap ke nazro ne samjha" pyar ke kabil mujhe. Thone with awesome violin and string instrument player. I hope this info helps with your enjoyment of the song as I your reactions to music from all countries brins me joy. Thanks. ❤

Absolutely rooted music.....though Pakistani music has its roots in India for obvious reasons...they have maintained and retained its soul even post modernization. No matter how much differences we both (India- Pakistan) have between us...we never parted on Music. Its common thing in our DNAs....❤
Finally 5000 years later you reacted on Pakistani musics lol
"He is fucking dead".. mate! the comedic timing on this is legendary. I was on the verge of crying listening to this song, it literally was the climax.. the poetry, the scene, the actual story behind it and you fucking nailed it. Well fucking done.

Thanks. ❤
