- These are probably the simplest bar clamps you can make. And they are also very easy to use. This panel clamps are very useful to glue the boards we may need in our woodworking projects. So, sure this is the simple bar clamp you are looking for. You can watch how to make more homemade woodworking clamps and other diy shop projects in my woodworking channel.

Just a idea for you, the next time you go to make a set of these clamps. After you make the marks where you are going to drill the holes for the bolts to come through, double the boards up & secure them with either some tape or F-clamp & then drill the hole. That way you are sure to have matching bolt holes! That way you save on your drill time & effort in making them. So, basically drill both pieces at the same time. 😁 Thank you for posting the how-to make video!!
You my friend have a way of giving instructions so that I can understand what you are doing and I can copy your wonderful jigs.
I appreciate you sharing your Bar Clamp instructions with us.... What a great way to clamp up a top or other thick items..... It's very cheap to make and easy to build..... Thank You!
Absolute Genius Sergio! This is one of the best projects I've seen and one of the next I will make. It's ideal for building panels for my beehives.
Being more familiar with inches than metric, I converted your measurements. So, for anyone else that would prefer to do so:
Boards 26.75" long (actually, as long as you need), ripped on the centerline to make 2 pieces 1.5" X 1.75" less your saw kerf.
Holes are 3/8", first one at 1", 9 more at 2.75" ea, leaving 1" past the last hole.
It "should" be better to stack two boards for drilling and then drop a 3/8-16 x 6" Carriage Bolt into the first hole drilled. I believe this will eliminate the problem of hole misalignment. After drilling, re-drill the top boards with a 13/32 bit if you have one, or just hog them out with the 3/8" bit so the bolt is loose in the hole as Sergio did.
Wedges are from a 1X4 and 6" long.
Finally, I'll make a couple of pieces shaped like a ladies beach hat, about 4" long and 1.5" wide, drilled in the hat "crown" for a loose fit on the end bolts and placed behind the glue-up. it will distribute the pressure and not leave screw marks on the job. I'll make these from Baltic Birch, same thickness as the job stock.
The best, and very well explained, video on shopmade bar clamps so far!
the best thing about this clamp is, it has 2 sides, top and bottom so you can press the board equally from all sides. I just made this one today and gonna try it out tomorow, thanks sergio ! :D tips, if you have wider board just make 3 or 4 clamps like this so you can have the max result
Those wedges are a fantastic idea. Thanks for sharing the idea!
One of the smartest woodworking ideas on RUclips. Cost saving, effective, and easy. Thank you. I will definitely make them!
simple clamps that do two jobs in one. good idea, well done.
Thanks Sergio. Great Idea, I'll have to give these a go for some of my projects. Nice work !
I'm glueing together a workbench table-top and didn't want to spend huge amounts of money on a couple of clamps that I'll use 2 times in my life. This is a real money saver and I'm sure this is just as good!
Also it squeezes the boards on both dimensions! Very smart! Thanks :)
Simple, cheap, and exactly what I was looking for a description of how to make. Thanks.
Great video. I especially like how you kept it real; including having to fix mistakes. The clamps look very sturdy and useful. I'll be making a similar set.
Drill holes prior to rip then they will be aligned . 3 minutes 59 seconds
Very good idea Sergio!
I am making a set today with left over 2X6's - Thank you for sharing.
Way better than pipe clamps. The most expensive part would be the bolts and hardware. The rest can be built from scrap! Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you for this! The amount of clamps I thought I needed to buy for projects was daunting.
This is a much better and cheaper solution.
Simple and cheap, very clever! Your instructions are also very practical - keep up the good work!
Once again, THANK U Sergio. U r the top!
thank you for this tutorial : I was about to spend a lot of money for long clamps and you offer a cheap and efficient solution... Very cool !!!
Thank you for your video. It is brilliant and will save me a lot of money buying clamps.
Thank you very much, I need to go make these right now. You have saved me a tonne of money. Good clamps cost a lot of money. So appreciated.
I'm late to the party. VERY NICE! May I suggest an improvement for anyone making these. On the stationary end, use a scrap block with a hole drilled, that is less than the thickness of the glue up, (like !/2 ply for 3/4" boards), to keep the bolt side from damaging the edge that does not have wedges.
Wouldnt be a bad idea to put one on both sides, Make sure the one on the end with the wedges can swivel and then you only need one wedge.
Simple, yet practical. Inexpensive and effective. Another great video! THANKS!
I just got a bunch of scrap oak used for bracing rolled steel on flatbed trucks. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it, but now I know :)
Thanks for the idea. I'm going to build me some of these.
This is just the job to enable me to complete a project I'm doing. This is a great video, thanks.
Thank you this is the simplest homemade bar clamps I've known! Great idea!
Excellent ! Simple, inexpensive, and very effective! Thanks for sharing
Old Video, but if you are around still. Thank you!
I Have spent hours trying to make fancy, good looking and professional clamps and never get satisfied. With your Video it's so obvious. that I forgot about K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid).
I will implement this design in my workshop and finally get a project ready.
Thank you for reminding me of whatś important.
They look very useful. I'm going to make some of these next time I need to glue up a panel. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for posting. I made mine yesterday for a project and they worked out perfectly. I made mine with a few changes. The bars were shaped into tapered cauls so when bolted down on the ends, the bars flatten out the boards. I also added pivot blocks to the bolts, so that only one wedge was required to tighten. I used a 10mm drill bit for 3/8" diameter bolts, which provided just enough wiggle room for the bolts to be inserted.
Next improvement will be adding rotating feet to the bottom of the lower bar so they stand up and can be stored away easily.
Thank you again.
Question.
Did you taper both the top and bottom bar, or just the top???
I was thinking the same, for a panel about 4 wide, but was thinking the bottom bar should be flat.
It takes a smart man to come up with such a great and simple idea !! Thank you !! This goes on my list of things to make !! Thank you very much !!
Great GREAT solution for beginners like me. So cheap and easy. thanks for sharin this idea
Wow, these clamps are really easy to make! Great idea, thank you for sharing it!
Mr Sergio wonderfull idea - I've just made not 2 but 4 clamps and it worked pretty well in my first job - the result was great and useful ...and the better - I've spent around 10 dollars only - thanks and thanks again...
Thank you Sergio, another outstanding solution to a common problem.
Thank you for solving a continual problem I’m having; I don’t want to invest a lot of money buying expensive clamps for large glue ups. Your idea is simple, very effective and extremely versatile. Thank you for sharing this excellent idea!
Thanks for refreshing old classic ;)
This is a great project to do at home. With this kind of clamps i can make cutting tables, chessboards, and much more gluing wood projects. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
Great Job! Thanks for sharing! I love your approach to making tools and jigs!
Sergio, Thank you so much! , just what I have been looking for!
Nice project! A decent set of bar/pipe clamps is easily $20+ and you made a very useful set for less than $3 in hardware! Too bad 184 idiots can’t appreciate your ingenuity!
Cool
How to restore an old sears jointer
I'm very short on bar clamps, but who ever has enough! I've been looking at several good videos on making "traditional" bar clamps and I was going to make some. Your idea is ingenious! I will be making several with different lengths. Thanx for the good videos you're producing.
I'm loving what you do here. I haven't watched your video all of them but I'm so glad that found your video. Keep up good work!!
Brilliant. Basic, cheap, and very effective. This idea beats all those clever ideas that try to immitate expensive sash cramps, rather than show you a good DIY solution like this. Cheers.
You have shown how a man can make thing happen with a little ingenuity and a lot of want to. I really liked your wedges to make the project tight. Keep up the good work.
These clamps are an excellent tool, thanks for showing this idea.
Great instructional video! I'm definitely going to make a set of clamps like these. Thank you!
Very nice. A lot cheaper than most expensive clamps and you have the same results. Thank you for sharing.
This is simple idea, the best kind in a shop. Thanks so much.
Thanks! A suggestion on the first drilling. Drill only ONE the use it as a template. Align it with each of the other bars. Drop you bit in the top bar and tap with a hammer. That will give a precise mark to use to drill the other holes.
around the 6:45 mark I had the 'aaha! nice!' moment. Great vid. Great idea.
I agree. It wasn't until about 6:30 that I even figured out how he was going to clamp those boards tight on the ends.
It is quite probably a modernised method of a very old craftsmans' method. Simplistically BRILLIANT !!!
Same here, it is such a great and easy to make idea, yet it took this gentleman in the video to make me see just how easy it is and how well it works.
Brilliant! Thank you!
Perfect! Bravo!
Very good demonstration. I need at least three long clamps to glue a tabletop. Since I only need to do this one time, I do not want to spend 60€ in total for clamps I probably will never use again. This is the best way for me to proceed. Thank you for this video.
I was thinking, yeah yeah, I've seen wedge panel clamps before, then I saw you using the wingnuts... Holy molly, you are a genius, in hindsight it's so obvious, but I hadn't thought of it before. Thanks for sharing! VERY useful.
At last! Clamps that can be done by a weekend DIYer. Thank you! I really need this design to help make my block board drainage board for my kitchen.
Yes, everybody can make this bar clamps easily and fast :D
Excellent, thank you!
Perfect for what I'm going to do in which I was thinking of long darn clamps, thanks for the idea. :)
I wish, when making these videos, they would include the suggested wood to use. I love these projects and I am ALSO NEW to woodworking.
Thank you, easy to follow, and clever. I will definitely make my own.
Clever ! Two thumbs up :)
Sergio! Thanks, thanks, thanks! Excellent!
Very effective and inexpensive. Also a good use of the various left over pieces from other projects. An excellent idea for the average do-it-yourself woodworker with limited funds. Easy to store, lightweight and very flexible. I especially like the ability to apply pressure in both the 'x' and 'z' directions. Also very simple to spread the pressure by adding additional clamps. I will definitely be adding several sets of these clamps to my workshop clamp supply. One can never have to many clamps. Thanks for sharing your good idea. Nice job producing the video also.
great video, very informative without talking for an hour about every little detail. love the idea and I will have to make these myself for my shop.
I've been looking for a cheap but effective alternative for expensive bar clamps and have seen your other videos on the subject. they have given me several ideas for my own designs. thanks for posting them.
I like this idea. That works very well in the shop when we need to clamp down a temporary fence while we are making our shop's work table.
great video...going to make these today very simple but effective thankyou for sharing
Nicely done.....I like that it keeps the edges tight and the top kept level. Bravo!
Great clamps and you explained them very well!!! Thanks for sharing your idea!
Eres un genio Sergio!! Gracias!
Excellent idea and instruction video!
Great idea Sergio. Muchas Gracias. Really simple idea but so useful once you see it. Good on you for sharing.
I like the simplicity of this design very much. It even serves double function since it keep the glue-up flat. Consider this idea assimilated.
Nice idea Sergio. I like it
Great idea--simple and effective. I can make the clamps at my Menzshed here. Also--being in NZ---we appreciate measurments being in metric units- as of the past 41 years.
Brillante, Thank you
Awesome panel clamps - cheap, easy to make, clamps also keep the assembly flat - great idea!
I'm even later to the party. That was great! Thanks for showing this. I'm a newb at woodworking but I will give this a try. Thanks!
Brilliant idea I love it ..... thanks Anthony
I will try these clamps, makes sense to me to do it that way - thank you !
Muchas gracias por tu ayuda Sergio. Me gusta mucho tu explicacion. A nice touch to insert the learning experience of lining up the bolt holes. A lot of u tubers would have just edited out the initial mis step and left us with the final result. It's a lot more real life like to leave that in and to show how we can all learn from our mistakes. Mind you, I think you've done a lot of wood working and have surely accumulated a lot of tips along the way. But, that was quite useful for a mug like me.
We are back in lockdown and I did a glue up yesterday, where some new clamps would have made a difference. But now I'm not allowed to go to the shops to buy hardware, so I will make some of these instead.
This clamp are fantastic thanks.
Thank-you for making things simple.
Fabulous!!! Can't wait to make my own set!!!
That's great ingenuity. Honestly, I'm impressed.
That was amazing. You are a genius!
This is genius! Thanks! Going to give this a try for my desk.
Ingenious, simple and effective
بارك الله بيك
Excellent. Simple to make, very cheap and yet effective.
Great idea, will save lot of money.
Nice!!! Thanks Sergio.
Awesome Sergio By far the best and easiest and cheapest idea I have seen!
Thank you so much!
I want to thank you so very much for all of your great ideas - I am a learner of Carpentry - I had learned a lot from you-
This is the first of your videos i have seen.
I like your "improved cheap bar clamps" (used in this video) with the wood pieces slotted on so they stay in place!
-- i now see the 'How To' video for the clamp modification (in the sidebar).
Thank you for sharing your work!
Simply the best.
Great for people with little money! Clamps are very/too expensive. Thanks!
fantastic!!!! thanks so much I have used them!!!
Mr. Padin.... I thoroughly enjoy your videos. I have watched a few dozen. You are a creative and intelligent man, and also, delightful.
thanks Sergio, Awesome
