- Oxpeckers perform a valuable service to hippos, keeping their skin free of ticks and dead skin. But they’ve also been known to keep host wounds open, so they can feed off the flesh.

This All started from watching crows eating ticks off of wallabies.
Same, I just been binge watching these videos since then 😂
BRO WHAT SAME!
I got to go start that video now
Yas
Yep
these things were cute until the whole open wound part
yeah first i thought "aah nice what a symbiotic reletionship :D" and then they just start eating them alive i guess haha
Hippo: Ughh, these wounds really hurt-!
Oxpecker: Hippity Hoppity your back is now my property
😂😂😂LOL

And the way it’s on beat
I guess they are from crows or sparrows family.
"The good news is, we've cleaned away all your parasites and ticks"
"The bad news is, we're still hungry!"
and now i have to inform my teacher that this is no longer mutualism...
im so touched

Birds eating Hippos alive
I just want to put lotion on their backs 😂😂
hippo: hey bro thanks for eating these ticks off me
oxpecker: no problem bro I'm gunna eat sum skin now
Hands are underrated
This'd be like if flies landed on you to eat your mosquitoes and then occasionally took a bite out of you like a horsefly
1:02 it's like a kid that u make faces at and they run to their parents crying about it XD
There’s always another hippo to hop onto. That could be the best relationship advice ever when someone goes through a heart break show them this video
Watching these types of video at night keeps peace 🥰
Its amazing how hippos don't get sick from living in such dirty waters..
I think they're designed to adapt to said environment
Its amazing how those crazy men on the st dont get sick

Nature is a beautiful thing to watch.
@HydroMk2 He doesn't even need to go that far. This video is about hippos are rolling in parasite-ridden dirty muddy water and pesky birds are harassing them by pecking their wounds. Also, the hippos stomach wall is covered with parasites. What beauty is there? Nature is a mess, and it sucks.
Nothing beautiful about nature. It’s all about survival.
@@CastleKnight7 Survival is nature and that's beautiful.
My favourite narrator
What a soothing voice
I love anything from the Smithsonian channel. Wish DirecTV would add the channel to their programming for free. I wanna visit the museums soon.
One Oxpecker asked kindly to a Hippo: I am sitting on you....is it paining you?
Hippo: No..bring 15 more...and eat those ticks
There's always another hippo to hop on to. A life lesson
Birds be like "Fool i am one with water, you can't stop me!!"
I love seeing these types of Relationships between animals. Very interesting
The inconvenience of the little ones.
Wait so I had a thought, since hippos poop OD , does that mean when other animals drink from the watering hole they have better immune systems to handle poop water?
I believe so.
😱
Imagine a bird lands on your head and starts eating your ear wax
That'd be a big favor unless it has malicious hidden intentions like the birds in this video
I don't mind It. I have a scratched ear weeks Ago and even if it has malicious intention, I DON'T CARE
Does it leave wounds open or does it eat dead tissue inside the wound?
From the little bit they showed it looked like they were eating coagulated blood and scabs.
"Ha! Ha! You missed me!"
They are like Credit Card Companies
0:48 I thought they were full on bros until that bit. I mean they useful but man.
This is torture.
God's plan.
@IfYouDisagreeYouAreWrong He really is so loving to his creation. Disease, war, famine, death... what greater signs of affection do you want?
@@ExperienceLOS7713 u acting like he is the one forcing them on us, and we ain’t doing it to ourselves. Why do u think he said this life is only a test, and will appear and feel only like a minute when we go into the eternal life. The war, famine, etc is only momentary aspects in the vastness of time and all can be forgotten instantly when someone is in the fire or in paradise. You have a very emotional and narrow way of looking at things, but that’s probably because u don’t even know and understand your creator well or your own purpose.
@@bengal-desi6526 which god created us
@@biggzzify if u study the scriptures from various faiths around the world, u will see they all point to one supreme God, even though many have other demigods or angels. In Islam, we believe God sent his messengers throughout time, so then its about comparing and validating which scripture makes most logical sense.
It looks like the tips of the bird’s beaks are red, is that their natural color or are they stained red from blood?
That's their natural colour. That's why they are called redbilled oxpeckers
Bstone Live Thanks
Both-they have red bills, but they will drink blood.

Hungry hungry Oxpeckers😁
Cute but deadly. Imagine they're literally eating you alive while taking a bath.
I thought they kept the wounds clean so they can heal better not to have a flesh feast every day 🙁 All the other areas they cleaned was cool 😍
you're very naive if you want to believe in heroes in nature
Umm nature isn’t some fairy tale about hugs and kisses it’s about war death and brutality
That was so sweet bless their beautiful hearts I love animals thanks 👍👍👍
It's like eating the island itself

Bird to hippo....you can splash all the water for all I care..I will not move an inch or be destructed I must feed on these ticks before you disappear underwater
they weren't eating any ticks... hippos don't really get that many ticks to begin with, very few ticks can survive underwater for any length of time.
... they were eating the hippos.

I don't like exaggeration in nature documentaries. The birds will bear a shower but they obviously don't like it.
Even hummingbirds take showers, usually preferring splashes.
