True no one can stay calm while in this situation but we all know that if we don’t, We will increase our chances of becoming breakfast. You gotta stay calm, keep an eye out and back away slowly back into shore where its safe. Only when the shark gets too close and
tries to bite is the only time you have to resort to targeting its weak points such as its nose or gills to try to make it go away.

I can still vividly recall the time I swam out about a mile with friends, looked down, and saw a great white moving up toward us. I screamed, started swimming, and it took me a good while before I stopped to make sure my friends were coming behind me. I believe bears and sharks hold the same etiquette to eat the slowest.
You don't have to be the fastest swimmer if a shark is coming, just faster than your friends.

It doesn't look like it teleports at all. When the guy puts his feet in front of him the camera moves to the right thus moving the shark further to the edge of the camera. If you keep replying the little section you can see the shark stay in place and appear to change position because of the motion of the camera. The key thing here though is as the camera jerks you can see the entire transition of the sharks location relative to what you see. A teleport would be instantaneous.The camera jerks harshly and how far away it is can often be misleading due to various factors in how the water reflects light.

The underwater shots with the shark are from the Australian horror film 'The Reef', released in 2013. It has been edited together with some GoPro footage and I must say the individual (or group?) behind this have done a really great job.

actually, the only thing sharks have done over time is shrink. They used to be 2, 3 times the size of humpback whales. So as the rest of the sea life got smaller, so did they. You can look it up on the internet, pretty interesting stuff :)

1. 0:59 glitches the sharks location
2. GoPro cameras upload in 720p minimum and this goes to 480p

What most people don't realise is that sharks like humans have feeding times.
The 2nd time I went to the Maldives I seen it in action (totally missed it the 1st time) but ye early morning they hunt and push fish close to shore and birds join in to make it even more chaotic all at like 6am to 7am, after that you see fish and sharks next to eachother and no one even does anything, fish not scared and sharks not eating them.

@@cr103 I’m pretty sure just swimming in a sprint away will activate more predator instincts. And you won’t get out on time if it actually tries to get you. I think him staying in the water and facing the shark confused it and made it hesitate with him because he wasn’t acting like normal prey.
Think like.. every other large predator on the planet. DONT RUN. So, don’t swim as fast as you can away. Don’t turn away at all actually. Don’t take your eyes off it. Swim backwards and away from it swimming to shore.
Only time to use a fast pace of retreat is if you’re really far from shore, but keep the movement smooth
