Hey everyone. Just a quick message. While I know a lot of you enjoy the recreations of O'Donnell and Campbell's legendary work for TTTE. I'd also really appreciate if you'd take a look at music I've written too. I'm looking to experiment and expand as a composer to test my range and ideas, the Thomas stuff is nostalgic and everything but the original works is what I really enjoy to work with. Still on the 80s wave at the moment as there are some sounds I still want to tackle. Here’s a playlist of all the 80s and 90s stuff. I’ve arranged them similar to how they are on SoundCloud. Enjoy! ruclips.net/p/PLMtRClgemu18WeuhMuxWRmeKj3NlT3-FP
Man this theme song will ALWAYS hit. Definitely like a top 3 theme song of my childhood. That percussion just holds things together so well. Great work man!
I wonder if there was ever an ad played at the beginning of a VHS, where the piano track was replaced with a voice over announcing another VHS collection. I feel like a mix like this lends itself well to that
Just want to make a mention that the picture in this video is one of my all time favourites. Absolutely love the reflection of Thomas and Annie and Clarabel in the water. Used to actually find it quite eerie to look at as a kid, but now as an adult I appreciate it for its mood and aesthetics.
I always was more fascinated with the backing instruments from the intro. Especially the deep toned Bass so it’s pretty neat to hear a No Lead version of the main theme. Amazing! 🤩
This is nice. It reminds me of an old steam engine I saw a little ways away from my town. Its out in the woods pretty much abandoned. All that’s left is the smokebox, boiler, and firebox. It was surreal to see it in person. You can see the controls and a small portion of the running board. Next to it there’s an old shack that’s abandoned as well. There’s pipes running from the engines dome that lead into the shack, and others that feed into a big metal box nearby. It’s interesting because it seems like it was used as a generator for a short time. It was kind of sad to see but it was thrilling anyways to see a piece of history like that. The wheels were scattered a short ways away as well.
I don't know why when I was a kid I would always hum the tune to the theme like this without the piano included. Glad someone made a version that resonates well with my childhood!
I just heard on the radio, doobie bros. “What a fool believes” and I swear they use the same style synthesizers as these early episodes. Maybe there’s a remix there waiting to happen?!? Btw, another great piece S.A.
Thanks. I believe they used a Prophet 5 for that song. Using a square wave very similar to the Jupiter’s clarinet. Lots of old synthesisers are like that, as much I like that song. I wouldn’t want Thomas fans to butcher that into another ‘Break My Stride’.
@@SudrianAfro that is fascinating stuff to learn. I totally understand, it was just a thought of course. Still it’s Interesting of what could be. Anyways great stuff as always S.A
This must have been the hardest one you have ever had to do. When I heard this, I thought it could be part of a scary episode, because of the way it sounded. But I must congratulate you on making this 😀.
Holy cow, dude! This theme is MEGA accurate! You nailed everything from the Jupiter 6 “whistle” patch to the synth brass, I can’t even fathom how good this is. May I suggest though, if you want to get the “lead piano” sound, I’d suggest you reach out to OneTramBand, as he was the one who composed the original Thomas theme for “Project Tiger Moth.”
Nice! This is really good, this could easily be used as a sort of documentary about the original television series, and how far it’s come with both official, and unofficial, yet faithfully recreated stories, in addition to new ones too! I can’t wait to hear the final version of the full theme with the melody added back in, but this is still a banger, so fantastic job! 😄👍
Oh man, this is so weird to listen to, the main lead piano tune just keeps playing in my head. Probably I have heard this theme a couple of times before. :) But what an excellent way to explore new things with this beautiful theme song! Thx!
I know the main melody which is taken out in this scenario gives the main theme, but that base line drives everything. It’s super catchy and I love playing it on my tuba.
If you are still looking for the lead Piano, there is a VST called H-Tonk Tack Piano. The closest preset I was able to find is called "Western Saloon Piano". With some minor tweaks in the tuning, you might be able to get the Piano to sound 1:1 to the original. Here's a link to an example of what I found. ruclips.net/video/xdmNYQdXOUQ/видео.html
This was a nice little arrangement. Great job. I couldn't help it , but... If the video was to be renamed to be in the postion of the other melodies without the main instrument, it would defentively be: "Thomas the Tank Engine without Friends". Thomas must be lonely then, poor lad.
So going by what you're saying in the description, you're recreating the Thomas theme tune, but you're releasing this first as you have nailed the backing track and the piano is hard to replicate? Interesting 🤔 well considering how well you have recreated all the themes from the show, i have no doubt you will get this too. I was hoping you would do the original Thomas theme tune at some point.

Oh, hey, the Sonic Studio composer! A fellow enjoyer of Mike O' Donnell and Junior Campbell.
This is EXACTLY what I thought it would be, yet I'm STILL impressed!
All this does is highlight how awesome the bass and the chord stabs are really 😆
Exactly!
Gr8 this song is
I frickin' love this tune, it slaps hard!
You know it’s an iconic theme song when you still know every piano chord that’s played even without hearing it
This gives me early VHS version credits vibes, and I can’t put my finger quite on why. Still surprisingly catchy regardless.

Oml same
You hurt my childhood by taking the piano away.
But it's ok. My brain filled the gaps
As did mine.
When the theme is so iconic that even if you remove the piano bit, it's still recognizable

It's still a mystery to how Mike and Junior managed to pull off the lead piano melody so well in this.
OH FUCKING HELL ITS YOU
this is like listening to this out of one side of your headphones
This would work really well over a montage of Thomas working round the goods-yards and stations along his branch line.
I don't know why when I was a kid I would always hum the tune to the theme like this without the piano included. Glad someone made a version that resonates well with my childhood!
i always hum the bass
The iconic theme from my favorite childhood show is missing the iconic piece we all know and loved!!
The feeling I get from this lead-less piece is about the same feeling I get looking at Thomas' reflection in the pond water.
That piano bass goes hard

The theme song is incredibly easy to put together. It’s a matter of timbre.

Is that the synth they used for the early seasons? I've always wondered.
Yes, for S1 and S2.
Hah. I stumbled across this and thought it was a clever removal of the piano from the original theme. Great rendition.

Really nice to hear the bass version of this theme!
Not having the piano makes you realize how much other things are going in the song. Love it.
This just sounds like the instrumental version of the song, even though the original was *already* an instrumental.
Cause the lead is so sing songy and iconic lol
Oh man, this is so weird to listen to, the main lead piano tune just keeps playing in my head. Probably I have heard this theme a couple of times before. :) But what an excellent way to explore new things with this beautiful theme song! Thx!
Yes been waiting for a version like this for a long time! THANK YOU!!!
Doesn't sound the same without the piano, but I like it.
Holy freaking crap this is good.
This is probably the most accurate recreation ive ever heard
Even without the lead instrument, it's still every bit as iconic. This theme song is and always will be the undisputed number 1.
Just what I needed for one of my students! God bless whoever created this!
Yooooo, it's an honour to see a "no lead" mix of the iconic Theme Song.
I think I have been listening to this for about 2 hours now. Thank you.
The windmill refuses to turn to camera
This is perfect and remains me of a ad version they did with the railway series theme medley once
This is a recreation?? Wow!! I would have thought you got the stems. So well done :)
Ah Thomas ‘B’ roll - kinda works very 80’s feel, great stuff!
This sounds like basically all of us humming the tune
"Look what you've done to our breakfast!"
It’s like you’re waiting at the station for him and when he shows up, that’s when the piano comes back, following him
This makes it sound way more like the Chorlton & the Wheelies theme than I ever noticed before.
Even without the Piano, it's still a bop
Thomas got deleted from existence, beautiful
But all jokes aside this is pretty good, continue with the good work!
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH THANK YOU SO MUCHHHHH ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I might have convinced StarTom to make A Thomas theme since he created a custom Piano vst with a similar sound to the original
Thomas & Friends but its more Mature & Serious (that's the vibe I'm getting)
Basically if thomas was down to the tugs level maturity
I personally think the show adapting the railway series stories made it mature, and the show no longer doing it made it immature.
Childhood without Piano...it does work !
It sounds like something that would play if Thomas was shunting for a big day
I don't know why but I play this video once a day like it's crack. I then proceed to play the right hand part as it plays spontaneously.
Love it, love it, love it! I can see the engines being interviewed during this music!
Very calming with the piano

Wow this could actually be a perfect background song in the show. Wow
Wow! I love Thomas The Tank Engine's Theme Song! 🙂👍
This actually sounds impressive.
This called back to the nostalgia of some. Now to call back to my childhood, do Engine Roll Call without the main melody.
This was a nice little arrangement. Great job.
