The friends you make in cross country and track are some of the most amazing friendships you will have in your life. 10 years later and I still value some of those friendships the most. The journey is just beginning, you got this!
Just watching this now, but I started bawling along with you when you were talking about the season ending and not reaching your goals.. I remembered the exact feeling (and frustration) and needed to feel it like this and see it in a new light. It is the first time I've cried about it in a very long time, maybe even since it happened. I remember the gut wrenching feeling of all that anticipation and buildup to a dream race, just ending (for me in a very sad way, dropping from the race and just bad race after bad race, feeling awful on every run, etc). Watching this was healing for me, thank you so much. I have come to accept my story at this point, as everything happens to us for a reason, for a lesson, to make us realize we are whole without needing to perform, achieve, or prove anything to anyone. I have a very similar story to you and most people who knew me do not know about it. It was extremely isolating and sad for me to get slower and unable to perform without anyone knowing why. And that feeling of frustration can be agonizing- knowing that I would have been much faster and gone to whole other level if I didn't have the ED. I was a freshman standout- I didn't really know much or care much about running at this point and having hardly trained, I ran around 5:10 in the mile. Eventually I became obsessed, too obsessed.. because the feeling of getting phrase from people and finally standing out at something made me feel good after having low self-confidence in other ways. I was running the same times as you, going D1, etc.. and I developed an ED about halfway through high school. I was only thinking about running and my weight and it was my only sense of self worth.. when my ED caught up with me I had nothing left my senior year (junior year was up and down) and it was devastating. I only wish I had an inspiration like you during my HS years. I graduated in 2015 right before people starting vocalizing about EDS and body image.. nobody talked about EDs in female runners then.. they were just as common, but under the radar. You are doing a great service to female distance runners at this time and have changed lives and prevented stories like mine from happening. Thank you, thank you! (With my new mindset and healthier self, I am getting fast again post-college, trying out trail running, doing 5ks, etc.. maybe will join a semi-pro group in the next couple years, happy to have your content to inspire me!!)
i struggled with low iron as well. after i started taking it i felt so much better and my times kept on dropping and once i got to a certain point i was able to step out on the track and feel confident in myself because i had been running fast times. im a 8th grader (going into 9th) and i ran a 5:30 at sectionals, and i felt so confident in myself when i stepped onto the track. to me taking iron helped me reach my full potential and i feel so much better physically and mentally
You did amazing through your high school running career and overcoming your eating disorder is a massive achievement. Your zest for life and your cheery personality is infectious. You will be amazing in college. Hey I’m 43 and I’m still friends with my high school friends. You will still see them and keep in touch!!! Keep vlogging!! You have a whole new chapter to set goals for college athletics. Go get ‘em girl!!
Thank you for talking about your nerves! I would feel like that sometimes and it made trackmeets a little dreadful. But I've over came that and I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one. Running is fun now!
Your message at the end was seriously relatable for me. This season seems like just setback after setback for me, and learning that I should just enjoy my races and my performance doesn't determine my worth was a hard lesson. You're such an inspiration and I appreciate all the effort you put in to these videos and showing us your running journey
i struggle with this too, feeling like not reaching my goals defines me. i had a great cross country season this summer and cut 3 minutes off my time and ran top on my varsity team and was so excited to excel in track. and then literally at track practice running my warmup i was hit by a car, and i was out for a month. i lost almost all of my progress. now building it back is going to hurt but i’m working on it and im so determined to reach even higher this xc season. i’ll be a junior so i still have time:) you’re so inspiring amber and you had an amazing high school running career!
@@colemcdonald8094 i run distance and we run around the school for our 1.5 mile warmup and a kid didn’t stop at a stop sign in front of a crosswalk i was running on with a girl on my team and just turned into me lol it was completely his fault
I recently started watching your videos and I love watching them. I relate to what you were talking about towards the end of the video so much because I graduated high school this year (in 2022) and even though I knew I was running in college running my last high school race at sections made me bawl my eyes out. Sadly, I dealt with injuries my senior year and didn't get to run for the first half of the season and at my last race at sections I felt that pain that I had during my injury again which was unfortunate because I didn't get to move on. But college cross and track will be fun for you, you seem like such a likeable person and an amazing and strong runner, so I know you'll do great. Love you amber you inspire me to become the best runner I can.
I hope to make it as far as you! Your amazing and I want to make it as an D1 collegiate athlete. My freshman year has been good and I can't wait to see what the world has ahead. Your such an inspiration to me and keep me in mind that my self worth is more than running or what I look like. I love you amber, congrats!
Continue to love and enjoy running . . . remember the feeling of joy no matter whether you are competing amazingly well or not because it does not define you at all! From all I’ve watched on your channel you’re an overcomer and you love to run so keep that in the forefront of your mind! Have an amazing summer, heal up, and prepare for the next chapter of Amber Schulz “College chapter!”

Thank you for sharing your journey so vulnerably and honestly. You've been an inspiration to me, and I know so many other people, by just documenting your growth through the good and bad. IMO, life is the most beautiful when you show it all, good and bad. Moments like your tears in this video just reveal that you've built several years of memories worth having. I can't wait to see what college has in store for you!
