The JSX is definitely more refined sounding. The mid-range of the 6505+ is kinda over the top. 6505 family amps are great amps for live usage where their huge and fat mid-range makes them sound really powerful but in a studio mix they tend to drown out other instruments. I'll say the JSX is better suited for studio mixes.

Cool comparison! But why are the equalizer settings so different? The 6505+ sounds much muddier and has more mids. As far as I know 6505+ sounds more sharp and biting. Am I wrong? Thank you!

Yes, broadly speaking, the 6505 series of amps are excellent on the mids and relatively sharp on the cut. The JSX, however, is meant to be tighter and more refined sounding, which could, in certain comparisons, make the 6505 come across as less tight. I wouldn’t say it sounds muddy at all here, but it does sound more raw and a bit darker, which is what I’d expect when comparing any stock 6505 or 6505+ to the JSX/Triple X Mark II.

The 5150/6505s are known for being VERY mid-forward amps, especially upper mids, and you can hear that here. It's one of the most recognizable features of the amp, especially when shooting one out against other amps like this. Very typical in my experience and I've owned 3 of them over the years. A block letter Mk1, an original 5150 II and now I have a EVH 5150 Stealth 100w. Even the EVH 5150s have this same characteristic, though that amp sounds a bit more refined in general compared to the peaveys which sound more "raw" and unfiltered in comparison.
It's why I always tended to run both my Peavey 5150 Mk1 and the 5150 II with the mids no higher than about 4.5, at least as far as the Peaveys go. Go much further than noon and the mids start becoming too much, with a nasally sounding character, almost like a cocked wah. In a live setting, I pushed them a bit further, but only because I wanted to make sure I cut through as much as possible, didn't really care how it sounded out of the cabinet.

I've never had to clean pots on my Peaveys for the nine years that I've had them. Might be because I live in a very dry climate

Actually I think your video cursed my amp because today I had a scratchy master volume with dead spots

Congratulations for the great videos. I would like to see a comparison involving the Randall RD20, RD45 or RD100 amplifier.

I’m glad you like the videos! I only use gear that I own, though. I did have a Randall RD100 on order for over a year in 2020 and ended up cancelling it because they couldn’t fulfill the order. Since then the price has doubled and it’s not a worthwhile amp at the price they are looking for now. Cheers -Ryan

I have 2 5150III amps that has pops (one is loud, other is tolerable) when changing channels... I wonder if the 6505+ or the JSX hunts with the same problem overtime?
