OK, it's cool that Bryan quoted the Connor line "We need more information to determine the best approach", but if Amelia doesn't romance Freddie and state "I wanted her to hold me in her arms again... make me forget about the idols... their smell of sweat and their dirty words..." I'm going to be slightly disappointed. ;)

Yeah my queer panic button went off at pretty much every design except for Apollo really but I think Persephone's design (and attitude) has to be my favourite
TBF, even if I like this game, I'm kind of taking exception at the "Role-playing" part of it. A RPG, whether table-top or virtual, puts the emphasis on either your character having a very detailed level of customization, or the plot being very responsive to your action. This a very well-executed musical visual novel (and that's completely okay !), but I struggle to see the RPG of it all
I think it's an RPG solely because depending on what trait you choose it unlocks different dialogue options which then can slightly shift the narrative or more insularly can change a conversation/relationship with charaters. The choosing of the traits and then choosing when to use those dialogue options I guess is what makes it an RPG. But it isn't a classic RPG, for sure. If you went into this game thinking it would be a classic RPG format I can understand why you would be disappointed.
@@AnxietyRat We can agree to disagree. I think it's fair to say nobody expected a "classic RPG" : if you put good music front and center of your concept, there's only so many pieces you can compose and produce, so it limits the number of branching in the storyline you can have. But from what I have seen, the story mostly culminates in one ending (with slight modulations here and there along the way).... and that's a typical feature of something that already exists : visual novels and interactive fiction ! Having character customization doesn't suffice to make this a RPG. Otherwise, we could also say it contains romance so it's a dating sim, a murder mystery plot so it's a detective game... what matters is focus, and it clearly didn't centered the interactivity and customization at the core of a RPG, imo.
This game lost me the minute she said you can't reveal the idols to mortals and the first thing she does is tell her friend and the game didn't do a game over and they came and killed her... There's no stakes if it's all bs.
From the dialogue that Pan has during that scene it seems like they are using a loophole in the wording and the loophole is that one single person, Freddie, is not the general public of mortals. And so Grace didn't actually break their rules using that loophole in this specific wording of the rule... Now Pam being a god of mischief does mean that he could be fucking with them... But yeah there's literally zero repercussions for Freddie being told and narratively the game actually makes it so that she is told regardless of what options you choose. So the loophole must actually be a legit loophole because they didn't take her out bc she knew.
@@AnxietyRat Yeah I was actually sort of really getting into it, but then that happened and I was like, "... ... ok this is going to be a waste of time of they can't follow their own rules..." Like at least a, "Oh sh, I forgot I couldn't... let's hope this is ok" or _something_ to acknowledge it. Because from that point on I'm like, "so can she call the police for help and just say 'i called the police, not the general public'"... *shrug* I know it shouldn't be such a big deal but it really was like a roadbump to me for some reason lol

I'm surprised you guys didn't recognize the voice of Eros given that you had him on your channel in the past :p
It's the mark of a great voice actor if he or she can stump other voice actors. And do you mean Apollo?

I love Bryan's stumbling over Calliope's name. It's adorable!!
Love Stray Gods. The combination of music, aesthetics and branching narrative game is masterfully done!
I love this game! I was struck by how it gave me Buffy’s ‘Once More with Feeling’ vibes and turned it out to be the inspiration XD
