    1. KATE you read so many Murakami novels?? Where do I start??
I have an entire video made for the purpose that I get asked this literally every video I mention Murakami - I have it in a playlist or you can easily search it on my channel!
    2. How do you pronounce your username?
Pfeil is pronounced “file” - it’s German
    3. What is your college major/what do you do in college?
I was originally a nutrition major and I’m now in English Education. I’m planning on teaching English in Korea
    4. What languages do you know?
English, Spanish, German, Korean and ASL. Yes, feel free to leave comments in any of these languages and I’ll try my best to reply in that language - my German is a little rusty since I only use it with my Grandparents and I’m currently learning Korean soooo cut me some slack lol English and Spanish though I’m (basically) fluent.
    5. YOU LIKE KPOP???? WHAT GROUPS/PEOPLE/SONGS?
Yes, I love Kpop - I post kpop related unboxings/MV reactions and first listens and stuff like that on this channel! My bias groups are BTS and EXO (and EXOCBX) and my UB is Zhang Yixing. I also fucking LOVE Bastarz, Seventeen, Blackpink, Dean, CL, and GD. I also watch kdramas so totally feel free to chat with me about them in the comments!

I am doing the audiobook version. The narrator is fantastic! But yeah, it takes a long time to get through it. Mr. Hill is expansive.

I read this 📚 last year, and it took me a month as well. For me, reading a book for a month is not necessarily a good thing! I did not care for this one at all. I gave it 2 ✨ as you mentioned, there are just too many themes going on in the book. I detested the chapters about Elfscape. I did not feel for any of the characters at all. I wanted more about the relationship between Samuel and his mother. For me, it was a book that had a lot of hype, but nothing to back it up. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!!

Honestly reading a book for a month isn't usually a good thing for me either - i usually get frustrated a book is taking too long, and i did kind of feel that with this one. But of course, i ended up enjoying it! Though, i'm a big fan of unlikable characters - which I felt like most of the characters weren't very likable. To me, that makes them much more realistic/human! but of course to each their own - reading is always dif for everyone! :D

Kate: i enjoyed your review very much. It was great to get an opinion from someone younger, such as yourself. For me the beginning was a little slow and i kept putting it down until i knew if i wanted to discuss it at book discussion i better get busy. Finally it caught on and i really did enjoy it. I can’t believe it took him ten years to write it. I was left wanting more from the mother/son relationship but in the end they made it work their way. Very interesting about Pwange and how his brain reacted to gaming. I will have to check to see if that is possible. Thanks again for your great review!!!

Hey Kate! The Nix ist wirklich großartig geschrieben, seine Art und Weise die Charaktere zu beschreiben ist tief und stimmig. - The Nix is original and makes it possible to make even mundane things like video games deep and involving. Greetings from Germany

I'm really hoping to find this book at the library sale I'm going to in a few hours. If not I'll probably purchase it next month or more towards the end of the year after I do all my Christmas shopping.

I’m curious, why did you think that the book was about magical realism? I’ve never thought about that, but it’s an interesting approach

what I was was I THOUGHT it was going to be magical realism - because many people recommended it to me because I love haruki murakami. Honestly i just rewatched my review and don't know why I said "it has the smidgiest amount" because I can't remember what i meant at all loll I read this a year ago and it being so long means I definitely didn't retain every detail.

Thats Interesting, but honestly, I don't consider Murakami a part of the magical realism either. I'm currently reading the Nix and so far I'm really enjoying the read. even thought this is a long book its not a heavy reading, but your review about it encouraged me to keep going with it! :)

I read this book because you mentioned it in an earlier video sooo thanks!... it was really intresting! the main thing that bugged me was the mom. i just never liked her. spolierss I get that she had alot of emotional challenges but I just found it soo wierd that Samuel became understanding towards her. even when they wer "reconciled" and going to london she was relieved that she was able to ditch him again. i feel like that was the biggest flaw of the book. i just feel like samuel wouldnt have acually goten so well with her in real life cuz she really was a punk towards him. regardless of how unhappy she was in that family he didnt deserve her sorry attitude. (thats just how i feel) i feel like she never redeemed herself even through the hardship. also it was a hard read cuz ive allways been so worried about video game addiction in my own life! i could sorta see myself in samuel and pwnage if i dont have self control lol! that was tough. im not that bad but i can be if i let it! scarrry. he wrote them too well =p

I personally LOVED the mom! I thought she was so incredibly human and complex - she's not a GOOD human, but she was consistent and kept to her characterization; which, i was happy she didn't do a huge change in this book because i think it would have been too.... "coming of age"-y if she had. Not everyone redeems themselves in life, some people are just assholes haha
and i feel that with pwnage and samuel - i saw them in my brother and a lot of my friends! Not so much myself since I kicked my addiction to video games, but they're definitely very relatable charatcers

+Kate Pfeil yeah i guess your righttt i mean it would be wierd if she did do a giant change and became this wonderful human. it wouldnt have felt right. I still didnt want Samuel to ever really like her even a lil. (but i that problly wouldnt have felt right either) i must be a bitter person =p any ways keep up the book reviews! =D i love em. hey since ur into magical realism have you ever ready any gabriel garcia marquez?

Very nice! I really love the WAY he way he writes. In his subject matter he can be brutally honest. His books do a great job of capturing the latin american identity. The good and bad. Hes a great writer for anyone thats intrested in latin culture. i dont know if 100 years is one of my favorite books but its an important one. =) enjoy! hey i know u prbly get tons of recs buuut i recomend his short story compilation strange pilgrims. if you dont enjoy 100 years i feel like pilgims is a funner and more enjoyable read. cant wait for more reviews! =D
