Also a WE4 owner here... I simply refer to it as a Buick GN since thats what people generally know about (close enough answer) and for the rare times people actually know the speifics and variants of these cars I will dive deeper and be speific about the WE4 (Turbo-T, etc)... saves alot time and unnecessary confusion.
I own a WE4. I badged it with GN badges, I put GN rims on it and I put in the all black carpet. I saved all the original rims, emblems and everything just in case. The way I look at it is, who cares what you do to it. It’s your car, enjoy it! I still have all the original stuff for it so who really cares it’s a WE4 and that’s the closest thing to a gray nationalize it’ll get. That one simple sticker code on the trunk lid is what determines that in the end. I love mine and I think it’s no different than doing normal upgrades to a modernized car like changing rims and doing simple things like that. Enjoy it and drive it and I really wish you lived in the Florida area because we could have some fun cruising man! Great video!
I have an '87Grand National and my brother has a'89turbo Transam! My car is bone stock other than the exhaust and a K/N cold air, I have the original air box also! -Its a one owner car with 74.xxx on the dash!
The spoiler could be had as a dealer installed option in 87 But not many got it at the dealer A lot of WE4 owners installed them anyway via aftermarket
I told this before on turbobuick forum. When I was in high school. This was around 90 -91 I knew a kid he told me his dad had a grand national, I went over his house to check it out, his dad came out and was happy to show the car off. He was a salesman at a Cadillac dealership. The car was a 1987 buick regal v6 non turbo car, black with grey interior, black bumpers grille, it had aluminum wheels. I remember it did not have the front air dams but had the turbo hood and no spoiler. He said someone special ordered it wanted the look not the speed. I have personally never seen another one. I know some time in 87 buick blocked people from ordering cars like this. Just thought I'd share.
I could sit and watch a GN, T-Type or WE4 drive around all day long. I’m 49 and bought a new ‘90 Mustang in ‘89. A few years later I tot the itch to buy a GN. Bought an ‘87 GN, down payment etc. had buyers remorse and went back and the dealer let me out of the contract. I already had a G body ‘84 Monte SS so I kept the Mustang. By ‘94 I was running 11.7@124mph in the 1320. Fast for back then. Heck its fast even for today. My buddy Sam in Rockport, Ma had a ‘87 T-type he always let me drive. He was always trying to get me to buy it but already had the stang, monte and a Chevy C20 p/u. Attn Buick owners, if you see some of us 40-50 somethings staring at your car, its for good reason. If we didn’t own a Buick, many of us wish we had. Or at least in my case, longer than a single day. Good video. Thx.
The lip on the trunk is more pronounced on a GN when compared to the WE4 Just went on a G Body cruise in my buddy’s 87 WE4 this weekend. We were rolling with a bunch of G body cars including 5 GNs My buddy’s WE4 has the sun roof and there was only 100 made with that option
Glad to hear you guys are out cruising. The trunks on a WE4 and GN are the same, the 3 piece spoiler is the difference for the GN. The lip you are talking about is the spoiler. I don’t believe GM documented hardtop, ttop, or astroroof builds numbers back then. Where is your source on this 100 astroroof number? I need to see this. Thanks!!!!

My 87 GN has a really rare option I've never seen on any other turbo regal. It did not come with cruise control and the holes in the fire wall were not even punctured and also roll up windows and no door locks

No. Only 87 with the black out packages with the WE4 rpo code is a actually WE4. A limited with all the chrome is simply and a Turbo T Limited. If you had an 87 that was white and not a Limited it would just be a Turbo T.
Thanks. That's what I would love to have. A Turbo T with the pillow seats, column auto, all the chrome. I'd put buick rallys instead of those turbo wheels. I don't think I would trade my '87 GN for one, but maybe someday.
No, all others were called Base Regal Turbo with T package. The most rare were the Regal Limited with Turbo, it had a column shift and 1035 were made. There are 1547 WE4s.

And the PROBABLE rarer car would be a 1987 Buick Regal with Turbo with Black paint with the blackout trim, built before the mandated restriction on the paint in December of 1986 before the introduction of the WE4... Only a 4&1/2 month production window, and the car would HAVE definitely been made to order. Imagine a Black Regal Limited with the Turbo package with the Grey leather 45/45 seats: Model M47, RPO LC2, Y56, AS7, 823.
This is the true Turbo T.

Wrong on the Aluminum brake drums

Only available on peg leg non-posi units
And very rarely
