Before we get into the "Endless Money Pit" comments, let try and remember that you can lease this car for around $350 a month, which is probably what most buyers of this car will do. You'll keep it for the term of the lease and give it back at the end, which probably means reliability isn't as big of a factor as someone who is buying a Corolla or Civic. Speaking of which, the lease payment on this, will most likely end up being the same if you purchased that new Honda or Toyota sedan and financed it for 5 years. Looking at it from that angle, you can see why some consumers would rather get the luxury brand as opposed to the mainstream car that you will see crowding your local roads.
Yeah, if you’re going to get this new, it’s best to lease. I still don’t see these on the road that much. I guess it’s because you can get a base C300 for $45K.
Redline Reviews you’ll OWN that honda or toyota you financed at the end of it all. who the hell RENTS a car? that’s still money down the drain any way you try to spin in.

anemite2 my parents have purchased 4 brand new Toyota’s throughout the last 20 years and every single one of them has had no major issues, besides small things here and there. Their eldest Toyota vehicle is a 2000 4 runner with almost 300K miles and they’ve never had a major issue with it. Based on my experience with Toyota’s, I’d say they’re pretty damn good cars. My personal style just happens to me more in line with a Mercedes, though lol
I currently have a 2021 A220 4-Matic and I love it. 3 years and 30k miles later and I’ve haven’t had a single issue. If I were to complain about something, it would be the DCT. It can be startling in the beginning, but once you learn how it behaves, you’ll know how to drive it smoothly.
Yeah, 41K is way too much for this or anything else in this segment. For a little extra, you can get a base C300 or S3 for 45K. Better yet, you can get a CPO 340i or S4 for under 40K. You’re better off with a loaded Camry or Sonata. Way more features and a FULL panoramic roof. Can move car in tight spots with just the key fob. The A class can’t. The a class doesn’t even offer full pano roof or space at all smh.

Most people will lease these for 3 years. No one buys a Mercedes...or most German cars for that matter. The maintenance and parts for German vehicles outweighs any value proposition. If you want to actually buy a car and keep it 10 years, then buy a Japanese or Korean vehicle. Maintenance and parts are a fraction of the cost of the German brands, and in the long run for the Asian brands, the warranties are longer, and reliability is greater.
@@Sahbab11 Even if you look at vehicles for the same price, I'd have a hard time passing over a fully loaded Avalon, Mazda6, or a nicely equipped Stinger GT, Highlander, CX-9, or Telluride for an A-Class. If you start looking at off-lease used cars, you can get even more for $41,000. People buy this car this badge, but anyone who knows anything about these cars will know it's the lowest Mercedes you can buy.
Your videos are so much better now. I love to see you playful personality! Much less formal and more like listening to a friend! Keep it up man! Eat more seaweed! Lol

The mansion or the condo ? Or maybe the math does not work the same in Canada vs US
@Shock 2016 Civic used 48 months finance at $400/month = $19200 all in 2020 MB A220 4Matic new 48 months lease at $420 / month =$20100 all in ( includes warranty ,new tires ,new breaks etc etc) All vehicules after 4 years old are s...boxes anyway . For 900 price difference i will go for the Benz I really enjoyed the conversation Shock ☺ If you come to Canada stop by my place ! Will have a beer 🍺 on my backyard talking about cars Cheers
Ion Serban first of all who has a 7% interest rate .... LOL why are u bragging about renting the cheapest Mercedes does that thing even have a back up camera?
I drove the A220 as a loaner car a few times and I have to say it is not bad. Off the line performance is great and what makes this car better than the first gen CLA is that the car doesn't buck during low speeds like driving around town or in traffic. Or as clunky as you said. Also, the ECO start stop system is better. Very little any shaking when restarting. My issues with the car are the MBUX system. Well the instrument cluster. It is not as customizable as on the pre face lift E-Class (W213), CLS and S-Class. My other issue is the touch screen. Yes it is responsive but my issue is that it hard for me to reach from my seating position. Yes I can use the "Hey Mercedes" feature and the touchpad. That is great and all but you still have to say specific commands and 5% of the time won't understand what I am saying. As the for the touchpad, it is a little sensative . I would miss the touch pad that is on the C, current E, CLS and the S Class. Also the knob is something I will miss as well. Oh and speaking of the "Hey Mercedes" feature, you can turn it off. All of that being said I would get this car. As I said off the line performance, handling, not clunky and over all it's a good car. As for all of you saying this is a cheaply built built Mercedes or it is not a real Mercedes because of the price point, you should remember the price of the original Baby-Benz.
I just can’t justify getting this over a fully loaded Camry v6 or accord 2.0. This is just not good enough for the price, rather just get a used c class with 10k miles for that price
Used C Class is definitely the way to go. They're reliable enough as they've been around a damn while now. Nicer interior and more room. A fully optioned A Class is definitely nice but a tad..expensive.
I owned a fully loaded Camry. A220 much better fuel economy, way better tech, interior, steering (Toyota is very mushy) and handling. Got 29 mpg on Camry, get 33.6 on my Merc. Toyota is far more reliable and has a much higher resale value, I know that. Buying car for driving qualities, not reliability.
Can y’all be nicer I own this car and I absolutely love it and it looks really good and has an amazing interior yes it’s not a s class and most other cars are way better but if u have 45k and want a nice car which is a real car not a Tesla this is a really good buy
Quite an interesting take on your video Sofyan, more personal connection in this one. Idk it was pretty refreshing Sofyan especially seeing more handheld takes. Enjoyed how you explained things as well.
If you are on a budget, you shouldn’t be buying a M.B. Luxury brands tend to go downmarket so they can capitalize on the wannabes. Great review as always 👏🏽
The only reason why I want a Mercedes is because of the very rich awesome crispy sound system their models offer. Idrc what Benz I get I just want that awesome sound to blast my music
i just brought a 2019 a220 used, around 2000 mi on it, include premium, multimedia, driver assistance package for 30K. MSRP for new around 45K+, im pretty happy with it.
I wanted the CLA...was told I'd be waiting over a year due to chip manufacturing issues unless I was happy to take what I was offered which could have been any spec, any colour etc... which I wasn't. Ended up going for a higher end A Class Saloon/Sedan in the end with some addons as found it difficult to actually see the differences other than the rear ends looking different and frameless doors...
I know why Mercedes is doing it, but I'm not sure why people buy these. I actually saw an A220 on the road yesterday, and I thought it was a Kia Forte. The guy was driving w his seat back and one hand on the top dead center of wheel, wearing white rimmed sunglasses. He thought he was so cool. The CLA was already bad enough looking, but now it just got worse. He could barely keep up with my 95 Miata.
I'm from Asia, here the A Class comes with a 3-cylinder 1.3L or 1.5L engine options both with turbo... I've heard these small motors are from Renault but not bothered to research on them... will give some time to see if any starts to 'park' on the roadside with age... and yes for some unknown reasons the drivers I've come across mostly have that look as though they're in a big luxury car, and some even keeps flooring the throttle at every opportunity possible, only to be outrun by other vehicles... guessed they forgot the turbo can only do so much, and having the logo doesn't mean it flies everytime...
Nature ! Honestly, you can find a lot of other good Benzes for less than 30k. That person above is right, you can buy a fully loaded 15-17 C300 for still less. Even a 15-16 E class would be a bargain right now. Hell, i want a C63 AMG and you can even get that for less than 30k
Me too, my first used car in awhile. I looked around and really like the computer look. I agree with wanting more power but hey I have been driving a 2107 VW so it’s going to be better ya
Same amount of maintenance w the a class over time. It was in theory if you had to buy a Benz I’d buy a used s class. That said, I’m a Toyota/ Lexus owner all day I got a Tacoma my moms got a lx 570, sister has a Acura. I’m very careful regarding reliability.
For that pricing, couldn't you get in to a C-Class, A4, or 3-series with similar equipment, but a larger car and larger engine? Obviously not the $33,000 model, but once you start adding options, you get in to the price range of those large, nicer vehicles pretty quickly.
Wow u can buy a Mercedes Benz for under the cost of a beautiful fully loaded Acura ILX or a Accord and yea that car looks beautiful I rather spend the extra cost for reliability in the long run Love the video stay safe ^^
It's not a cheap Mercedes, it's a small Mercedes. "Not being able to afford a big-ass Merc SUV" isn't the only reason to buy a smaller car and, personally, I think the inside and outside of this car are home runs.
This looks good, but I’m more of a keep my car kind of person, leasing doesn’t call my name at all. I’d go for an Accord Touring 2017 with low mileage.
Bought my Elantra GT N line with 201hp and 195 torgue. Heated leatherette seats, 7 speed DCT, dual exhaust (that sounds decent stock) and a 10 year warranty for just 25k brand new. Much better deal over this Benz.
Luxury car manufacturer’s are seeing that most of these cars leased and they lose value too fast so to counter that, they overprice these cars to make up. So instead of only being worth 15/-19k after being returned with all this new technology, it’s worth 20-23k now.
First, thanks for doing a midline Mercedes review. I’m always curious of what most Audi, BMW, and Mercedes look like in entry and mid level trims. We only see the top trims which are so unrealistic. Overall though, it’s not a bad package. It’s the price that gets me. I would rather get a Acura ILX or even a TLX. I think Acura has just as much premium, reliability and sporty features in that price range to really make a compelling offer.
Millennials: I’m buying a new base model Benz! Me: Just buy a 3-5 year old Lexus LS500 and your country miles ahead. It’s the same generation that’s rolling off the assembly right now.
Good review of car, I’ve got my A250 4Matic Saloon with AMG package. Car is fantastic for that budget, driving is very smooth, handling and feeling is on very high level. 4matic keeps traction and I think is only one choice. For me only one minus is sound, especially exhaust should be have more sport charastic.
“Starts at $32,000. This tester is a much more modest $41,000. It’s about as low optioned as you can get”. Sofyan - how are $9k in options lest optioned and more modest than a non optioned $32k car?
Because you can almost never find a no-option benz unless you custom order it or do a lease special. Dealers will not order base models. My local dealer only has 1 A-class at 34.5k and the other 17 are listed above 38k and half of those above 40k.
$9k in options may sound like a lot, but for a Benz (or most European luxury brands), its actually kinda restrained. This is the spec you will find on most dealer lots since it has the popular 4MATIC option, along with the premium and multimedia packages. Trying to find an absolute base model A-Class is nearly impossible, unless you factory order it that way.
I configured this car on their configurator & got it up to $51k & it only has 188 HP. At that point I'd rather get a Genesis G70 2.0T or 3.3T around that price with more power & performance 😂. Or I'd consider the A35 AMG which has more power & performance with the engine it has
I'm gonna have to keep my 2.0T Touring Accord that actually has adaptive cruise and is way quicker. Not sure who would buy this car except for people obsessed by brand image. Yikes
Thank you for this video and I have watched your other videos and I do appreciate all your comments and personal touches and feelings towards all the car as if you want. However I think when you’re reviewing this car you should review was from the perspective of somebody who can afford this car and not somebody was coming from the class to this car. So I think while I appreciate everything you said good and medium I think you’re kind of putting his car down. If I’m looking to get into Mercedes-Benz obviously I cannot afford the 19 $90,000 Mercedes-Benz. This would be a very good starter for me personally $350 per month is a very decent payment to pay for overseas Benz and from all the features and is the luxe that I see it looks like a very nice car yes it may not have the power than a equalize house or S class house
We use to be very happy with our bmw e46 325i with same Hp and even far less amount of torque. I think this car is powered and torque just right for what it is.
Finally... My first luxury car I can FINALLY afford on my 28th birthday on money I’ve been saving and all the hard work I’ve been doing for the past 13 years... 😄
Blech. I'll take a Kia Stinger instead - bigger, RWD, and reliable. (And yes, I bought both a Hyundai-Kia and a Mercedes back in the day - a Genesis and an E-class - and the Genesis has been a far superior car.)
The power may not sound alot when you say you compare it to higher power civics or what not with smaller 1.5 turbos but this is German horses. So it is most likely faster to 60mph, more efficient and not as stressed so more reliable. Also, this engine is much different in the 35 AMG versions with 300 hp. So this version of the engine is very detuned and will most likely be very reliable. Large capacity with minimal boost. You guys don't even get the A200. That has a 1.3 litre 4 cylinder with 160hp which is sufficient to be honest. In Europe the A45s model has over 400hp.
Before we get into the "Endless Money Pit" comments, let try and remember that you can lease this car for around $350 a month, which is probably what most buyers of this car will do. They're mostly leased by young people and that's the target market for MB. They're trying to get them 'hooked'.
You can even get a cpo e class for upper twenties if they just had to have a mercedes which atleast will drive better.
Their small petrol engines are reliable. Diesel even more so.
I'd just buy a Corolla XSE and have money left to play with
A class is 2 seconds faster 0-60, but a ton more expensive for sure
StalkerGtfo not if you get the V6 Camry
@@Noah-ui1iu
The A-Class is a technology behemoth. Cars are much more than their 0-60 time
@@Sahbab11 Even if you look at vehicles for the same price, I'd have a hard time passing over a fully loaded Avalon, Mazda6, or a nicely equipped Stinger GT, Highlander, CX-9, or Telluride for an A-Class. If you start looking at off-lease used cars, you can get even more for $41,000. People buy this car this badge, but anyone who knows anything about these cars will know it's the lowest Mercedes you can buy.
But then you're not the target market for this car.
Sofyan really makes these reviews interesting and on point 🙌🏻👏🏻
Your videos are so much better now. I love to see you playful personality! Much less formal and more like listening to a friend! Keep it up man! Eat more seaweed! Lol
I thought it was 33k lol love how they say start at, but you could never walk out of there with one at that price.
“Okay...Shutting up now.” 😭😭 Im crying. I love my car already 😍
That’s ain’t a 33K car, once you get to the dealership with all that add on its 45,000.
yea ok lol it'll only e 45,000 if you add extra luxury for it. its literally cost around 35k or 33k. my sister already has one in blqck color and paying $330 or $360 a month lol
My A220 has premium package. It also has wireless phone charging, 3 garage door openers, ambient lighting and satellite radio. It doesn’t have navigation though.
really wanted to lease one of these, but it was going to be around $400/month. i think i’m going to finance a used 2016/2017 Honda Civic thanks to your videos:))
Ha ha ha I don't want the mansion on the lake! I rather have the 1 bedroom condo downtown Detroit
@Shock 2016 civic ( out of manufacturing warranty) = $CAD 15000 ( here in Canada)
Financing at 6.99% interest over 4 years =$CAD400 / month ( and no more warranty )
I just leased my new A 220 4 matic for 4 years $CAD420/ month ( full warranty for the next 4 years and 80000 kms )
Which one you rather have my friend ?
The mansion or the condo ?
Or maybe the math does not work the same in Canada vs US
@Shock 2016 Civic used
48 months finance at $400/month = $19200 all in
2020 MB A220 4Matic new
48 months lease at $420 / month =$20100 all in ( includes warranty ,new tires ,new breaks etc etc)
All vehicules after 4 years old are s...boxes anyway .
For 900 price difference i will go for the Benz
I really enjoyed the conversation Shock ☺
If you come to Canada stop by my place ! Will have a beer 🍺 on my backyard talking about cars
Cheers
Ion Serban first of all who has a 7% interest rate .... LOL why are u bragging about renting the cheapest Mercedes does that thing even have a back up camera?
Ion Serban 5 grand down on my 2015 si I’m paying 170 a month and I get to keep mine when my payments are done btw
Shane Walters exactly for the price point you can get a WAYY better vehicle going used or to the mainstream cars
that logo
Used C Class is definitely the way to go. They're reliable enough as they've been around a damn while now. Nicer interior and more room. A fully optioned A Class is definitely nice but a tad..expensive.
Wales yep they’re real good until that warranty wears off and you’re paying for repairs out of pocket at the Mercedes labor prices.
Doesn't matter if it's cheap or not I'm still leasing it
Can y’all be nicer I own this car and I absolutely love it and it looks really good and has an amazing interior yes it’s not a s class and most other cars are way better but if u have 45k and want a nice car which is a real car not a Tesla this is a really good buy
Buy a used one for cheap.
everythinghasalreadyhappened a used one is an even bigger mistake than buying a new one.
Well said, if you buy it then you have to maintain it.
Yeah, the logic is that if you can afford to buy it, you can afford to maintain it. I’ll stick with my Asian cars.
I agree
The only reason why I want a Mercedes is because of the very rich awesome crispy sound system their models offer. Idrc what Benz I get I just want that awesome sound to blast my music
“Okay... shutting up now.” LMAO
Congratulations! Now your A-Class looks just like the new E-Class.
As a GTI owner I personally wouldn't take a 2nd look at this.
As a non GTI owner I wouldn’t take a second look at this lol. Cheap cash grab by a fading luxury brand.
Exactly... I would have to be on crack to trade in my amazing GTI for this crap
i just brought a 2019 a220 used, around 2000 mi on it, include premium, multimedia, driver assistance package for 30K. MSRP for new around 45K+, im pretty happy with it.
Congrats. KBB shows your trade in value is $24K and btw there’s 3 current recalls on it.
Was it worth it?
For a leasing perspective, I will take the CLA for look or base model c class for driving dynamics.
For some reason, the sound of the trunk close at 4:22 made me crack up lmao
Plate vibration
I know why Mercedes is doing it, but I'm not sure why people buy these. I actually saw an A220 on the road yesterday, and I thought it was a Kia Forte. The guy was driving w his seat back and one hand on the top dead center of wheel, wearing white rimmed sunglasses. He thought he was so cool. The CLA was already bad enough looking, but now it just got worse. He could barely keep up with my 95 Miata.
Get them on a curvy backroad their even worse, I can out drive them in my my truck lol.

You buy this car almost solely for the badge. It's not even necessarily a bad car, but for the $ there are so many better options
@@whatchis1120 That's funny, I leave trucks in the dust on curvy roads and don't even talk about highway ramps.
I'm going to buy one of this car when things get back to normal some were in August
Nature ! Just buy a low-mileage C300 bruh. Wasting your money buying this thing brand new.
Nature ! Honestly, you can find a lot of other good Benzes for less than 30k. That person above is right, you can buy a fully loaded 15-17 C300 for still less. Even a 15-16 E class would be a bargain right now. Hell, i want a C63 AMG and you can even get that for less than 30k
Nature ! Just buy something Japanese or Korean. Never buy a used European car
Me too, my first used car in awhile. I looked around and really like the computer look. I agree with wanting more power but hey I have been driving a 2107 VW so it’s going to be better ya
Great looking car. Really looks like a smaller C Class. I’d take this over a CLA, just because I like the looks of this more.
I’m buying this for sure
How bout a 2016 S class for 35-40 grand? I’d take that over this any day.
Good luck with that expensive maintenance plan and repairs!
Jake Carter ^
Dennis Xu ^
You can’t get a 2016 s class for that low
For that pricing, couldn't you get in to a C-Class, A4, or 3-series with similar equipment, but a larger car and larger engine? Obviously not the $33,000 model, but once you start adding options, you get in to the price range of those large, nicer vehicles pretty quickly.
Wow u can buy a Mercedes Benz for under the cost of a beautiful fully loaded Acura ILX or a Accord and yea that car looks beautiful I rather spend the extra cost for reliability in the long run
Love the video stay safe ^^
It's not a cheap Mercedes, it's a small Mercedes. "Not being able to afford a big-ass Merc SUV" isn't the only reason to buy a smaller car and, personally, I think the inside and outside of this car are home runs.
This looks good, but I’m more of a keep my car kind of person, leasing doesn’t call my name at all. I’d go for an Accord Touring 2017 with low mileage.
Sati can’t go wrong with a Honda! Lol I have two accords.
Alec Empire Sorry that happen to you but from my experience very good and reliable brand!
Alec Empire agreed, the V6 accords just rip apart those weak transmissions.
Most boring looking car in the world, would rather get a used Corolla for 5k then own a new Accord.
@@Frank22164 I don't want a new Accord, the v6/ touring Accord 2017 is what I was referring to.
You can't call 30k car a budget car 30k is a lot of money
Shock budget and Mercedes do not belong in the same sentence. This car is an embarrassment.
"Younger buyers" or those who hate humongous cars like most of the cars nowadays.
Essential car reviews. Course, my daughter can't get her braces fixed but I still appreciate the video.
I would not trade the GOLF “ R “ for this car!! As you indicated, this Benz is too expensive optioned out......
I have the 2020A class!!
I love it except it's a little weak (engine-wise) otherwise very nice
Dang, MBUX has an attitude.
You say cheap I say affordable I think I'mma have to get this everybody knows me knows I want a Mercedes. For this price I can definitely do.
I’m sorry, but when we live in a day and age where Honda accords are nearly pushing 300 horsepower, this isn’t worth.
Plenty of millennials buy used Lexus cars. :D
Yeah let's pretend the LS is not twice this car's size and fuel consumption because mUh pRice
This car should’ve had the hatchback version like in other countries and have a wagon version with a AMG trim.
Everyone’s comparing this to a corolla I sitting here thinking. I’ll get fully loaded golf r for this money.
The people who endlessly compare this to the Toyota Corolla will most likely only to be able to afford a Corolla in 10 years.
J High and the people that buy the A class can only afford a poverty pack Benz (Renault under the skin).
I think he meant more modestly optioned than HE would choose. Sofyan, left to his own devices, is absolutely going AMG.
Another excellent review. Good points on the nickeled and dimed options.
Even a low end premium car like an
Acura ILX with the 2.4l and 8 speed dct is faster and better 😳
I owned an Acura ILX before my C Class. Worst car ever!! Cheap Japenese Crap!!!!
@@loganfox4174 I have a C Class now, the C Class is nice, the A Class is cheap and junky.
but Acura isn't Merc and I love that 3 point star ornament.
I configured this car on their configurator & got it up to $51k & it only has 188 HP. At that point I'd rather get a Genesis G70 2.0T or 3.3T around that price with more power & performance 😂. Or I'd consider the A35 AMG which has more power & performance with the engine it has
"What can I do for you?"
"You can shut up."

"Shutting up now."
I own a A--250 here in Canada, hatchback with 221 HP, way more interesting that the 220
For 41k I would rather buy a used Stinger or a brand new g70
I am not spending no 41k on any used car, you can get a fully loaded maxima, Camry, sonata, accord with that money, including all safety features
Hey, I’m looking to buy a 2019 Mercedes A220 With the AMG package with 15000 miles/25000 km. What’ll you says a good price range to buy one?
If you're "on a budget " , then you don't "need to buy a Mercedes " . 🤦♂️
It's nice to see you actually be critical of a Mercedes product for a change
Buddha once said: Nothing is expensive, some shits are made for you while other are not.
It’s not bad to be honest. The interior is really nice.
Yeah no, I would not trade in a GTI/Golf R for that. I'd rather just get an Audi if I'm going luxury.
And pay just as much in repairs and then lose all your money to depreciation when you sell it
The AMG ends up costing the same as a Audi RS3. Definitely go Audi.
@Shock Both Consumer Reports and JD Power have MB listed way below Audi.
@Shock Except they're not.
the new 2021 a3 looks amazing
Just a couple years ago, the CLA was the most affordable Mercedes for $29,900.
I'm gonna have to keep my 2.0T Touring Accord that actually has adaptive cruise and is way quicker. Not sure who would buy this car except for people obsessed by brand image. Yikes
I 100% agree. But this interior is 2303739828,83937383,37386338 times better than any Honda would ever be in its existence so you do pay for that
I got a A class ad before this lol
Mashhur Olimjonov got one right after!
Lol 😂 ok shutting up now! 😂😂
You have a good point there by saying shut up and that’s funny😂😂.Never seen a Mercedes-Benz 2020 do that.
yeah this is a no go for me.
I’d only start at the C coupe...
We use to be very happy with our bmw e46 325i with same Hp and even far less amount of torque. I think this car is powered and torque just right for what it is.
“ENDLESS MONEY PIT!” -Scotty
Scotty sucks
When did I ask
The power may not sound alot when you say you compare it to higher power civics or what not with smaller 1.5 turbos but this is German horses. So it is most likely faster to 60mph, more efficient and not as stressed so more reliable. Also, this engine is much different in the 35 AMG versions with 300 hp. So this version of the engine is very detuned and will most likely be very reliable. Large capacity with minimal boost. You guys don't even get the A200. That has a 1.3 litre 4 cylinder with 160hp which is sufficient to be honest. In Europe the A45s model has over 400hp.
I’d buy this, I like smaller cars 🤷🏼♂️
I like this car, looks really good, and I can consider purchase it in a near future, good daily driver, and it's not a sport car and not trying to be
On a budget.. 10 year old Subaru maybe?
Great review as always! Keep up the great Quarantine Content 👍
