Is the handmade handles just to give you more range for a greater degree of control? I'm looking to build a small puppet with cable controls like this but I was just going to use the stock bike brake handles. Always great to get a look at others' work process and ideas :)
I haven't tried brake handles but the advantage here is that you can place the hinge higher or lower to get different degrees of leverage. However, this is just a basic overview. I would encourage anyone to experiment with variations.

Yeah, I think you could do something similar. Check out my Alien Chestburster video. That might be more along the lines of what you need.
