Billie Holiday Unplugged (An Unaired 1956 Interview)

  • Опубликовано: 30 сен 2024
  • This is a very rare Billie Holiday interview that hasn't been heard since it was given (presumably in the summer of 1956). In it, Holiday promotes her newest album for Clef (later Verve) Records titled "Velvet Mood" as well as her best selling autobiography "Lady Sings the Blues." The reason for the interview not airing was because the radio station feared that listeners would think that Holiday was drunk during the interview because of her slurred speech.

Yes I just watched it it was deep I loved it!!I love lady sings the blues but this one puts more light on what was really going on in her life and why the government was on her. And lady sings the blues they didn't give too much detail and I damn sure didn't mention that song strange fruit. The lyrics to that song is so real and so dramatic, she truly captured our pain and I can see why the government didn't want her to sing that song. Is simply because some of their guilt they had to accept because they know they was bogus as hell

Lady Day was truly a genuine and legendary performer who wasn't afraid to stand up for what she believed in and she paid a great price for standing up instead of being silenced, the government went through great lengths to silence her voice and art by even going to the lowest levels of exploiting her addiction to do so. Praying that her truth will be told and that she receives the honor due to her. In 1939 she was a powerful voice for civil rights through her rendition of Strange Fruit, which protested the injustices we see still today 82 years later. She was a voice of the people using her art to convey an important message of the need for equality, acknowledgement and justice. Looking forward to Hulu's new movie highlighting this part of her story

I have been a fan of Billie Holiday for years. Her short life was tragic from the start, but she was a tough lady that left this earth too soon. My heart breaks listening to this interview - she sounds so tired. Out of all the recordings that she's done, her last album "Lady in Satin" that was released months before her death, makes me cry. One of the greatest legends of the 20th century. RIP, Lady Day.

I love her DRIVE 💗. Everyone has a story. She was running so hard and because her plight was so compelling and yet she still had a good spirit, she could only express it through her adlibing as on intervier stated. She was strong and real she could only speak through song and her PARTY FAVORITES was a temporary reliever. While she had free will those bums, that was another talent of hers, she could spot one in a fifty mile radius it seems, (Me too) until Jimmy. She was way past that though, but I believe she knew he really did love her. The government has always gone full force with their racial ingorrance in the name of THE FUCKERY to shut up and down the TRUTH. MY HEART AND MY SHOES RODE WITH YOU LADY DAY. if you take as much heroin as her you won't notice if she did one shot before, the tolerance goes is can be quite high after years of use. Who Else has Liked & Respected Billie Holiday aka & Lady Day birth name.Elenore Fagan. Before Lee Daniels Bio-Movie USA Vs Billie Holiday
    💗🤍💗
I have ALWAYS Loved 🥰 her Heart Mind, Voice and I’m so Sad that she went through much Heartache with her Men/Husbands, and Life as it was for Black entertainers.
Also she went-through A lot by Feds especially agent or Supervisor Aslinger.
They kept trying to make her Stop Singing “Strange Fruit” which she Refused, so they Planted Drugs on her.
Another thing that hurts my Heart ❤️ Is that she encountered Racism where she Performed... They stopped her from riding Guest Elevators, so she had to ride the Dame Freight Elevator as if she was merchandise.
I Will L❤️VE & Admire This Classic Lady Day until I Breathe No more & My Heart cases to Beat.
