  • Zinc air batteries do have a smaller cathode than conventional alkaline button cells - oxygen from the air is used as reaction partner. That's why zinc air batteries have a higher capacity. But what exactly happens when a zinc air battery is discharged? Find out in our new video!

What is the efficiency of extracting energy from Zinc in this battery?

Will these batteries last longer if the oxygen entry holes are covered when not in use versus not being covered?
    Thank you

Hi Paul, unfortunately not. As soon as the tab is removed the discharging starts. We recommend to take the battery out of the hearing aids during night (especially when the aid is stored in a drying box) but reattaching the tab will not prolong the lifetime of the battery. We'll certainly do a video about the lifetime of hearing aid batteries!

@@poweronebatteries I have a similar question. What if the batteries were stored in a non reactive gas. Would the reaction stop and the batteries have a potentially longer life? Thanks!

When I got my aid I only needed to use it once or twice a week. When the cell was activated it was dead within two weeks even when removed for the aid (since it didn't have an on/off switch). When resealing it the cell would be good for six to eight weeks. Resealing over night may not make much difference but resealed for a few days seems to help.
