He points out numerous times in his book that he's been sober and uninterested in drugs and alcohol his entire life. I think what makes his music relatable to people who don't know what it's like to walk in his shoes exactly is because you can feel the pain, and relate to that vicariously through the words in comparison to your own pain. You both may not have the same experiences, but pain knows pain. Not all of the world's painful art is good by that standard, but David's music is dope.

Became a fan of King 810 since I first saw them live at Mayhem Fest 2014 San Bernardino, CA. Great music. True music. Genuine music that means something. Even David Gunn's Rap music is incredible. Genius. Hope to see them live again but here in Texas this time
I think alot of folks are completely missing what David is actually trying to say with his lyrics, big time. Flint is definitely a tough town where some ugly shit goes down, maybe that's why it makes such a good metaphor.
Dude when the interviewer asked him about people doubting if Flint was as bad as he and other say, I gained so much respect for him when he just said “yeah I get that, people make shit up all the time”. Some people would say fuck the haters and all and this guy just says basically they don’t have to believe me cause I know, and anybody that knows me knows. Idk, but this guy has seen and done a lot, and he has a lot of wisdom as a result. Love him or hate him this is a very unique and genuine man.
And for everyone saying he’s strung out or high, he’s speaking very clearly and very thoughtfully, you can see in his eyes how he processes everything and thinks out his response before he speaks. Which we could use a hell of a lot more of nowadays.
Sick and tired of hearing the same story about David being on some drug. I think Finn McKenty from PunkRockMBA says it best. It's a socioeconomic prejudice that people create. King came from a region of the world where failing industry resulted in mass poverty and in turn - violence.

Most of you don't get it, if you lived a normal fairy tale life you'll never get it until you open your mind and eyes
Everybody’s talking about how he’s so slow n shit n how he’s prolly on dope, if you listen to any other interview with him or check out his podcast you will realize that he tends to lag behind questions because he actually takes time to think about the right thing to say.
David is highly intelligent and is the kind of guy who knows the power of words. He knows saying the wrong things can end very badly, so he is very mindful of the power he can have or loose just from one statement. Definitely an interesting guy.
one of the greats!
The most talented frontman in the genre, in the world, today. Pioneer of a sound worthy shit. So fucking talented.
Respect from Detroit, homie👊
He’s brilliant.
I've seen David here and there when I was working in Flint lol
Btw, if anyone is wondering their name is pronounced King 8-1-"OH"
Fack yes! I listen to them doe a while. I've been homeless as a child so I kind of feel I can relate. Awesome interview, thanks metal injection
What do people say bad about these guys? I love there music it’s like metal used to be fuckin raw and hard and yavid is dope as well
I think Finn McKenty from PunkRockMBA says it best. It's a socioeconomic prejudice that people create. King came from a region of the world where failing industry resulted in mass poverty and in turn - violence.
true, also a lot of people who aren’t from that background or can’t even imagine a daily life of violence, drugs, poverty, etc think it’s just dudes trying to be ‘edgy’ but it’s a real life thing and they’re doing a great job expressing it with art imo
Because people think he's a phony gangster. Not saying I do. But I've heard that before
I mean, their music is pretty shit.
@@troywilson4694 that's your opinion and all but what do you do for a living? Wheres your band? Who even knows who you are besides a handful of people? Who pays just to see you? I bet either sittin in a cubical, flippin burgers, landscaping, or putting up drywall. You more than likely dont have a band or let alone play any instrument besides a flesh tube and your probably really good at it. Noone knows you except people who wish they didn't. And I bet noone pays to see you hell your boss probably grunts to themselves everytime they notice you clock in
haha for some reason this is exactly what i imagined him to be like
I watched him throw a goat head into a crowd and whoop some dudes ass in the front row, then get back on stage and perform. Met him shortly after and he was extremely kind. One of the bands I've met that I can truly say are real genuine. He is about the shits tho, dudes for real with his lyrics. One of the last dudes I'd beef with.
I can't find the Kill em All official video anywhere. WTF? Who is deciding for me what I can or cannot watch? ~!LET'S RIDE!~
you can tell his brain works 1000 times faster than his mouth, that is a sign of a true intellectual and wise person. Haters will hate.
He starts to come out his shell but then catches himself like oops gotta be dark. Reminds me of the gorgoroth interview lol
Lyrical Genius
Can David get a ft with Silpknot?
Mate they're band was literally on tour with the a couple years back. I saw them live lol
@@RyanE860 yeah, they toured together in 2015
The Prepare for hell tour was sick with korn too.
I saw them in Wembley when they did the beastie boys cover of sabotage
@@RyanE860 Nice first time i saw them was tattoo the earth 2000 in San Antonio they were insane.
I Am (I love you) -to David Gunn
Keep the fire rolling ✔🔥🇨🇦
When I heard fat around the heart I thought this is different, and with the latest song I'm seriously a fan. You never know what he's going to put out next. Favorite song has to be hellhound or I am the enemy.
Just heard I am the enemy for the first time yesterday.
Played it at least 10 times since then.
Nothing like it.
Killem All is what got me exposed to them. Only the past year did I fully wake up to them.
There isn't anything from king I don't like. I ain't going back again has to be one of my favorites
I'm glad you guys left on good terms. Make your money
Lol "you're fighting a war in a battalion, and you look over at your buddy and say, ""why don't you just leave?"" That cracked me the hell up
I love that we hear trucks in the backdrown. Truly commendable #King810
imagine thinking that backdrown is a word lol. Its background ya tard.
Fuck I could jus sit and listen to David talk bout anything
Coming from the land of the heartless much love feel everything you say
His music content is so deep and it goes beyond his music by hearing him talk. He does seem incredibly calm, and I want to believe that’s just his personality and not high. At the same time, I wouldn’t blame him if he was, he’s been through hell. Either way, we’re happy to have him!
David needs a fucking hug. Or a walk in a field full of flowers or some shit. Just depressing
That was an amazing interview.
Honest and can relate to him. All you can ask
this guy is more than music
Idk if King ever sees the reason I comment from time to time.... Really like to get in contact. Bending the senses.
Want a king bandana so bad. 3 or 4 hundred tunes? Put that shit out!! Please!
When you are from flint you understand why its hard to leave this shit ass city i love it its home i aint leaving
THE DAYTON FAMILY
I play Memoirs all the time!
Omg so good luv David and his book is badass 🖤
He's my absolute favorite singer. First Freddy Mercury, then Dax Riggs, Jonathan David but now David Gunn has surpassed them a
I like him and all but he will never surpass freddy mercury
Around 4 minutes in, you guys talk about singing it having not done some of it. I grew up in flint and i look up in a way because i hate how soft at heart i am and i wish i was as tough as yall seem.
I find it fucken crazy that David has killed people, been shot, stabbed, left for dead, and still is this absolute chill
@shartimus maximus You’ve clearly never been to Flint hahaha
@shartimus maximus You shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet, especially when it comes direct from an absolute hater that thinks David's dad is a dentist. David and I both grew up on Church Street in Flint.
Only violent people are capable of being peaceful, if you are not capable violence then you are not peaceful, you're harmless.
See y'all in atx April 11
love this dude
Well put. 🤘😁
I dont listen to yavid-king 110 all the time. Theres a time & place when the mood is right. Sometimes we need to be provoked
Flint seems like one of many forgotten places in US, Why hate this man for exposing the problems there.
Nobody hates him for that reason.
King Is Love.
No
I wonder if he ever gets tired of people saying “eight ten” rather than “eight one oh.” Brutal.
