We are shooting ourselves in the foot not building cheap, easily accessible EVs in Canada right now. The Carbon Tax was a blunder because it targeted the Canadian voting public, while ignoring that 80% of Canadian pollution comes from heavy industry. If there is to be a tax it should be on producers alone, and there must be something in place to ensure that they are NOT passing the cost on to the consumer.
Why shouldn’t it be passed on to the consumer? Who is demanding this majorly polluting service? Why should the business be penalized for something the public chooses to consume? If you feel it’s bad for the environment, I guess you should find options that you feel are not and the cost of those producers won’t be passed to you.
@carleem4559 It should not be passed to the consumer because the consumer is not responsible for cleaning up the producer's mess. Nobody is demanding this majorly polluting threat - everyone is demanding that we have a sustainable future. Businesses should be penalized for the negative impact of their products, to the point of being shut down entirely if they fail to show any responsibility. We have other options that do not create nearly as much waste and are far more sustainable while also costing less than hydrocarbons to create the same amount of energy, sustainably. Anyone telling you otherwise is an addict and wouldn't change their opinion because they are sick.
Governments chicken out before the unions. However, if they take action to disolving unions that harm the productivity, hurt the economy, or give the nation a bad reputation, then the people win. It has shown in S. Korea, not giving into red unions always powergrabbing, and striking for the purpose of just to pocket some easy cash.
They are not dissolving unions. Even public employees are unionized. Canada Post is just not economically feasible the way it is. They could deliver using drones, autonomous cars, and numerous over innovations, which would make their business profitable.
Actually korea has a huge wealth gap issue. Its so bad now that the birthrate has fallen below replacement levels from long work hours, not great productivity from burnout, and suppressed wages for many in the middle class. Canada Post is a dinosaur, and the postal workers are always whining about how they don't have something or other -- what else is new? I remember back in the 70s when they went on strike every second year at Christmas. I was talking to one of the postal workers who told me: "It's the only time of year we can go on strike." In other words, it's the only time of year when they can be a thorn in the side of the public, which is who the postal workers are always playing, hoping they can make them mad enough and thus draw them into the issue. Folks and small businesses need to be able to read between the lines, and see the real colors of the postal workers.
You miss the issue of the fall strike. Management has had a year to negotiate. They would like nothing more than to never come to an agreement. Fall is the only time it puts pressure on the company.
okay? CanPost is entitled to hire replacement workers while they strike. Stop caring about the strike and tell CanPost to just hire replacement workers then. It's almost like they're still at the bargaining table because they know they need those workers.
CP is always hiring because it's a low retention job meaning few people want to do the job. But you knew that right. So you find 55,000 people to do the job and see great the service is. Lol. Also more of the new hires do a bad job.
So find another way of coping - either the strike will go on forever or eventually canada post will go out of business thanks to the union. Either way business needs to find alternatives.

Our government is a farce only in place to keep the colonized citizens taxed. WE ARE NOT independent in Canada . We still report to the crown of Ewgland
Where exactly are we negatively impacting Canadians or the economy by not investing in EVs in the way you are saying?

Unions within reason can help alot. France and Germany have better living standards and stronger middle classes. Also far better work life balance of 5 or 6 weeks off, and productivity that rivals the us while still being family friendly.

@@abcdedfg8340 [Even without the threat. It works. Do you think any employer wants to risk their employees unionizing? ]
I understand what you're saying, but we can look to the US and how anti-union rhetoric is never ending in order to prevent their employees from unionizing. And in a lot of ways it works because they don't stop with just demonization of the idea, they lobby governments to make it harder to unionize, among the many dirty tricks they employ. They even hold mandatory, anti-union workshops in an attempt to brainwash even thinking about it.
Canada isn't anywhere near that kind of environment, but we can point to it and say with perfect truth that if it can happen elsewhere, it can happen here.

Agreed, if someone is underpaid, they have to find a new job. But Why CP employees don't choose that path - You know the reason. An accountant quit his job came to CP to deliver the mails. That explains a lot

I think the only thing missing was a hit piece and photo op about a corrupt cop that rescued a neglected kitten from a meth lab.
So find another way of coping - either the strike will go on forever or eventually canada post will go out of business thanks to the union. Either way business needs to find alternatives.
So management spending poorly has nothing to do with it? It's just the workers and the union?

@@PhyllisPapoulias It's better for the ruling elite.
That's why they're called NPCs, they don't have any thoughts of their own.
They're just conduits for the words and thoughts of others.
@@PhyllisPapoulias Other countries like New Zealand have privatized the postal system. By privatizing it it would dramatically improved the efficiency by having to earn profit without having the tax payers subsidize it. It would result in massive cuts to inefficiencies and the reduction of excess employees who don't pull their weight. Canada Post does not provide an essential service, they have a monopoly on mail delivery which results in poor service, unreasonably high prices and costs. If Canada Post had competition in mail delivery, they would go bankrupt.
@@lab35982 CP isn't taxpayer funded or subsidized. They are mandated to be fully self-sufficient. Taxpayers have actually made a lot of money back from years it was profitable as profits go back to the public coffers but the only time you pay for the service is when you pay for postage, not through taxes so there's really nothing to lose as a taxpayer. I don't know about New Zealand but in Canada private courriers would never deliver to remote areas unless the markup was astronomical so those in rural and remote areas would be essentially cut off. They do provide an essential service to those areas. Again I think the most important part to remember is it receives no tax dollars but pays money to the taxpayer when profitable so I can see no benefit to Canadians to privatize it.
Looking into it, it looks as though NZ Post is actually state owned so a crown corp like Canada Post, operating at arm's length of government and mandated to be self-sustaining. Looks to be very similar although in New Zealand other companies are allowed to deliver mail so they don't seem to have a monopoly on that as they do here.
