The words in the manual made it seem more complex then it is. Thanks a lot man I'm excited to try mine out now!!!
It's a solid unit. Been very happy with mine :)
Cooking With Ry I have a question . What can I use to keep the temperature probe in place on the grate of my Smoker ? I viewed a RUclips video and I can't tell if they stuck the probe in head of garlic or they used dough to hold it in place on the grate while the smoker is closed.
I use a small onion
Scottys Back Yard BBQ Thanks a lot .
I’m so glad people take the time to post videos like this. So much easier than leafing through the short novel they call the instruction manual
My model is probably a bit older but helped me set a temp timer for smoking over night during the week. I cook a lot for my employees at work and this will be such a game changer!!! No more wasted meat and time. It’s so nice to know I can start after work the day before, keep a close eye on it with the spray and wood chips and after 4-5 just wait for the temp!!! Have 2 butts in now and finally I don’t have to set my cell alarm for every hour to get up and go look. Thanks brother!!!
Thank-you so much there own channel was useless...as a visual learner this was exactly what I need. Simple straight to the point.
2 years old and your vid has helped another, thanks for great and easy to follow info. Also, I only bought this brand from watching your channel, you should get some advertising money.
So glad it helped you :)
I read the instructions and scratched my head. Great job, thank you for the explanation.
Thanks for taking the time to show us how to use this useful tool.
Superb! Best instructions on RUclips. Thanks to you I can use this Therm Pro.. 👍
As lots of other folks have said, I was having a hard time getting it working by using the booklet. Your video did the trick. (It helps since I'm a visual learner.)
This is the best “How To” video!
Thank you good sir
I was about to return my TP-08S, but your clear and concise instructions for the TP-08 worked fine to explain the operations of my slightly different unit. Decided to keep. Thank you!
Awe man, thanks for posting this. Using mine for the first time and like others have said, the manual isn’t too friendly. Really appreciate it buddy.
I’m doing your turkey leg recipe right now. Can’t wait to taste it. Every single thing we’ve tried from your videos has been awesome.
Yeah that manual was not much help :)
This was so useful!! I've been scratching my head at the manual as the wording didn't make sense to me, but you've made it very clear, Thank you!
Great short video! Finally a video that does what it's supposed to in a clear informative way. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it.
I am watching this in Feb/2023 and it was really helpful! Thank you!!
My TP-08 got here yesterday. And now i know how to use it. Thanks Ry.
Awesome!
Thanks for make a video about set up the smart digital thermometer. I was looking about this subject on RUclips and I think you are the only one. I like how you explain step by step. I think will be a good idea make a video with that thermometer and your BBQ. Cooking and explain How that thermometer works
THANKS A MILLION! My aging eyeballs and a small print manual are a poor combination - LOL. I have the TP-08 and you've made my life very simple with your clear and concise vid.
Thanks, Ry. That was straight forward and easy to understand. Your explanation was much better than the instruction manual. Although I just purchased the TO-08S, the buttons are basically the same as your model. I've did some technical writing in my day, mostly recipes, military manuals & kitchen policy documents. It's not always that easy to get an idea across in few words.
Thank you for the video , I read the instructions for my TP07B and was confused about the settings . You just made it easier to understand . Thanks again ! I bought a handheld digital thermometer to use until I get this one ingrained in my brain or what's left of it ! 😊
Very helpful at 4am. Got this Thermo Pro for Christmas and finally can program it. Thank you.
You're very welcome! Glad it helped :)
Thanks so much! I’ve watched several videos on this digital thermometer and honestly yours is the only one I really understood. I’ve smoked with an electric smoker for years but I wore it out and my family got me a 24” smoke vault propane smoker for Father’s Day. The main reason I got this thermometer was to smoke jerky and didnt want to try too until I got a good thermometer so I could know my exact smoker temp at all times.
Yeah love doing jerky. A good thermometer sure helps :)
I just purchased one off of Amazon and received it today thank you very much for your clear and easy-to-understand Video. Next time I get something from Amazon that you sponsor I will buy it through you. love all your videos
Awesome! Thanks :)
#thermpro should pay you for this video. I needed a refresher and couldn’t find my manual. This solved my problem. Thanks!
Thank you. I just used it for the first time and over cooked a pork tenderloin because I didn't have the alarm turned on. As somebody else pointed out the manual overcomplicates it.
Thank you so much! I’m all programmed up now. Got my standing rib roast on the Weber kettle going. Followed your video on that also. Merry Christmas!
Well done in your video ....................you where able to make it so much more simple than the directions that came with units. Thank You.
Thank you so much . I got thermo pro tp08s. I lost my instructions this video helped me so much .
You are a lifesaver! I was getting so frustrated and ready to return, lol. Great videos, thanks
Your video was better than the one that thermpro made. Great job. Thank you.
Thank you for the clear instructions! Saved me from a headache :)
Thank you Ry, read the manual and watched the video by Thermopro. However, your video is way easier to understand. I have the TP 20, but it does not have a low alarm; therefore, I got the TP 8S for slow and low smoking.
Glad you found it helpful :)
I had this thermo pro for a year now and still didn't know how to set the temperature. Thank you for the tutorial.
This is my go to video on how to set this.
The best explanation yet-Thanks
I just bought this same thermometer. Great video!
Very useful video, thanks. The manual really makes it way more difficult to understand.
Great explanation. It really helps. Thanks!
Perfect instructions. Now I'll buy one. 👍🏾
I watched your video and appreciate your very easy explanation of the unit. You describe things simply, and in a way which I could understand. The video on how to verify the probes are accurate are great, too. Thanks again.
Thanks! I'm glad you found the videos helpful :)
Just pulled this out again after a long time for to frustration with setting it. Thanks for clearing things up, maybe I'll actually use it now...
Brilliant videos as ever, what a genuine passionate guy!
Thank you so much! You explained it so good. The manual was confusing.
Thanks! Glad you found it helpful :)
Mine just came in today and wow you made it so easy! Thank you so much. My eyes hurt reading that tiny manual. Tired of manually checking all the time letting heat out like I have for years.
So glad you found it helpful :)
Great instructional video, much appreciated. Manual was way to complicated. Cheers
Thank you!
Always forget to preset temperatures and keep coming back to this video 😀
Great video, detailed, direct, and to the point!
Thanks for the easy to use instructions 👍🏼
Excellant simple instruction! the manual was making me pull my hair out.
fantastic review ....thank you !!!
God I love your channel. Just bought this and you have made it so easy to understand the settings compared to the manual. Many thanks.
Thanks Ry, great video to help explain the ins and outs. I’m from the UK and new to the BBQ game so looking forward to trying this out in my Weber. Subscribed to your channel and look forward to learn more from you. All the best.
Thanks! This is exactly what I needed to know!
You and me both, bro! I’ve been about to pull out what little hair I have left! :)
Perfect. Thanks man!
All the videos on this thing by others and you did it right. Straight to the point with NO political run around.
great video, about to try my 4x4' smoke shack I just built. thank you!
I have a thermopro as well but it's not the same model as yours but it sets up the exact same way. Thank you for your helpful video.
You're very welcome :)
Thanks man! I just got one and this helped a lot.
Awesome!
Thank you! This helped me a lot!
God bless you! Exactly what I needed!
Very useful. Doing a 10lb butt now and couldn't remember how set the alarm temps.
Rey, thanks for doing this video. This helped a lot. I have a newer one but it still does the same thing.
+Jerome Satorre My pleasure. Glad it helped.
Would you still recommend this? Just ordered a weber Mt and need a good set off probes on a budget. Really looking into these. Simple and straight forward
For a budget setup they are good.
So far I did everything you stated except checking the accuracy of thermpro. Was using quarter rounds of Cherry. I thought maybe the charcoal with not a lot of wood was the reason. Thank you for your input.
The Longhorn is a bit bigger than my Highland. You might need a bit more wood. I find that once I have a good fire, maintaining it by keeping it fed with wood at the proper intervals and charcoal if necessary does the trick. :)
Well with your advise, I think I know the reason for not being able to get the temp up. One my charcoal basket I believe is to small. It measures 12x12x6. I had it filled with white charcoal and a few chunks of wood and this was not enough to get the temp up. So, I added six 1/4 rounds of wood got them lit and the temp went up to 250 plus. I guess the size of my cooking chamber which measures 43 inches long needs lots of fuel to get it hot. I also, had a problem like you with the gasket material around the fire box. Not a very good product. I'm going to use the red gasket paste and see if that works better. Thank you again for your advice. Been a big help.
Hey Ray you are my twin in looks and hobby of grilling.
Thanks for sharing the video. I just received mine from Amazon
You're very welcome. It's really very easy to program once you get the hang of it :)
Great video have you tested in the oven?
I've used it in the oven, on the grill, the smoker, etc...
couldnt get the meat temp to show up on mine- thanks boss you helped me out.
Glad the video was useful :)
Thank you! Big help! Now I'm ready to smoke my 1st thanksgiving turkey soon!
I'm smoking one on the rotisserie this weekend!
nice simple, straight forward. Thanks!
Mine's a pit boss one and I'm about ready to toss it. Grrrrrr! Wish I had the kind you have so I could follow along your instructions.
Thanks brother!! Just what I needed!👍🏼👍🏼💯
Thanks! The manual was so vague, I had to email their customer service Dept! Question for you: if I smoke two briskets at once, I can use the “BBQ” probe in the second brisket and just treat it as a second “Food” probe, right?
I’ve done that before with no issues 👍
Thank you - subscribed to your channel!
Thank you Ry!!!
Thanks for the video! I purchased this model and I've never used a digital thermometer like this before. Where should I place the pit thermometer in my Weber kettle? I'm going to try to smoke a brisket for the 4th of July and I want to make sure I use the pit thermometer correctly.
I try to place it at least 10 inches away from any heat source.
Thanks so much for this! I lost the manual soon after I bought this.
Great video......very helpful
Thanks, the one thing now that I'm still a little confused on is how you use the pit probe. Do you just lay it on the grill grate next to the meat?
There should be a clip that came with it to hold it just above the cooking grate.
@@CookingWithRy thanks, I was wondering what that clip was for. Good timing, I was just trying ready to start the coals.
Very clear advice, thank you!
You're very welcome :)
Thanks Ry - very helpful
You're very welcome :)
I know this is an older video, but is there a way to calibrate these? I noticed mine is just over 5 degrees off. I cant seem to figure it out. Anything helps, thank you.
Great video!
Thank you excellent video.
Very helpful!
Hey Ry, Thanks for all of the videos. They are really helping me get to another level of grilling and BBQ. Do you still recommend the TP-08? I went to buy a wireless thermometer and was surprised to see so many models and brands getting bad reviews. They seem to fail a lot - in a lot of different ways. Any recommendations would def. be appreciated. Thanks again!
Personally I like the ThermoWorks thermometers, but they are more expensive. I still have my TP08 and use it on my electric smokers frequently and it still works great ;)
@@CookingWithRy Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I'll roll the dice on the ThermoWorks and hope I get a good one. I've got two racks of Carlton farms baby backs that are calling my name. I won't have the wireless set up, but I have a laser thermometer and an instant read - and the one on the kettle of course - so I'm sure that will get me through until the ThermoWorks arrives. Thanks again Ry - Cheers!
Thanks so much. I’m ready to get that pork butt on the smoker now. Your tutorial was much more clear and understandable than the instruction manual.
Great video
Great video thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it :)
Thank you VERY MUCH my prime rib came out excellent
Prime Rib! I’m jealous :)
Thanks for the video very useful information. Two thumbs up
Glad you enjoyed it :)
good vid thanks better than trying to find the manual
Glad you found it helpful :)
very helpful thank you.
You're very welcome :)
Would you happened to know whats the difference with t20 & tp-08? Im debating on which one to get
I don’t, but I’ve been happy with the 08 :)
I believe the 08 allows you to set a high/low temp alert for the second probe. The 20 does not. The 20 is more designed for 2 meat temperatures. The 08 is more designed for a smoker.
Can you set probes individualy?
Yes you can 👍
Ry, I have a 20 year old smoker that I just started to use again. It's a Longhorn by the way. I bought the ThermPro and the baffle plates for the smoker along with the water tray. My problem is I started using the charcoal basket with wood mixed in and for some unknown reason was unable to get the food pit up to the temp I wanted. Also, the temp guage on the smoker was a lot higher than the probe from the ThermoPro. Was wondering if you had any ideas since you seem to have the same set-up
A vintage Longhorn. Nice! A couple thoughts--if you haven't yet, verify that your ThermoPro is accurate (it probably is). I did a video on that here: ruclips.net/video/IqpUKUVWDS0/видео.html Next, if the smoker has been sitting for a long time, make sure that the smokestack hasn't developed any obstructions (critter nests, etc...). When I start a fire, I usually pour a full chimney of lit charcoal in the firebox and then add one piece (usually a quarter round maybe 12-14 inches long). I have the smokestack fully open, and I leave my firebox side door open, not just the damper, and I also leave the firebox top door open until good flames develop. Then I close the top door, but not all the way--I usually prop it open about an inch using an old pair of tongs. At this time I make sure the damper is fully open on the side door and push the side door in so it's at about 45 degrees open. By this time my temp in the cook chamber is usually nearing where I want it. If I can see good flame through the slightly cracked firebox top door, then I remove the tongs and let it close. If not, I leave it that way for better airflow. Some pieces of wood are better than others--more seasoned, drier, etc... If you're using smaller pieces of wood, you may need to use more, and I frequently will add additional charcoal if I need to bump the heat up for longer cooks. Hope this helps!
A lot of reviews complain that there's only a way to go up when adjusting temp presets so if they accidentally set it to 276 and they wanted 275 they would have to cycle all the way through again. Maybe they should watch your video!
Thanks! Once you 'get it' the first time, it's pretty easy :)
Thank you!
Im a little confused. I bought one and it says to keep the wires away from open flame. I'm pretty sure that a steak will cause some flare ups. How am I supposed to keep the wires away from open flame? I'm worried they'll burn. If I put the probe into the top of the steak then I won't be able to flip the meat as I'm cooking.
I haven't had any issues with a quick flareup, but I wouldn't run the wires directly over an intense heat source. I use this mostly for indirect cooking.
Ry, do you still use this thermometer? I think I have a newer version of it mine is identical. But I’ll tell ya 9 times out of 10 I get this vibe that both probes are not giving the correct temps. Where should the probe be in the Weber? (I do have a slow n sear). Any tips are great
No, I use ThermoWorks thermometers now. Costs more but they work flawlessly for me.
@@CookingWithRy you think the thermo pros are junk? Should the probe be closer to the fire or opposite of the fire?
@@Southjerseysmokin Not junk. The ThermoWorks are just better built and work better in my opinion. I like to put the probe opposite the fire when possible.
How long do batteries last?
I replaced mine after 8 months the first time, and I used it A LOT :)
