    Lindybeige did a video where he proposed that the reason gladiators wore such face covering helmets was so that they could "hide their cheating." That is to say, he suspected that what they were actually doing was shot calling each other, in order to sell the matches better. When I see things like this, it really hammers on how Professional Wrestling is the modern day Gladiatorial Sport.

      @-Benedict Год назад +5

      I dunno man, I think there's a balance to strike somewhere in the middle. Before the era of planning, two guys saying "we'll call it in the ring" just meant "we'll do as little as possible."

      @chaoscontroller316
      Hmm im a little mixed in that.
      I dont think it should be 100% scripted or planned from the day before, cuz then if you do that, you only get hot spots and high flying shit which i think is a bad direction that wrestling is going.
      But i also agree on the statement that if you ”call it in the ring” you might get more and more ”commercial grappling” (if you are a fan and have seen wrestling in tv, i think you know what i mean). It has to be a mix of both. If i had to choose one, i think calling it on the spot is better. Because eddie guerrero and chris benoit are 2 of the greatest wrestlers of all time, and they always called it on the spot. But not every match they had were fun to watch unfortunately

    Becky has called her out backstage to be more vocal on high spots (or the 'big finish' spots towards the end of matches), but again, I think it's just her own and maybe that's a part of Japan's pro wrestling style where they don't talk a lot in the match, but they indirectly communicate with body language and their hand signals seem to be high up there in communication because I have seen that happen in Japan's pro wrestling where they don't talk a lot, but they do communicate with hand signs and little motions with their arms that are hard to find unless you're looking for it.

    You could say: THESE are professionals!!! They know when, they know what! And they know their opponents! It's nice to see the "tricks" of Wrestling, but u have to understand what could happen if they don't communicate with each other...

    Dang same with basically every WWE fan in the world, I've been aware/heard all the Dolph/HBK comparisons a thousand times and I obv see it in their style and everything but I noticed that even in this area of the sq circle they are the same haha. HBK told Khali to do his pose and where and then Dolph did the same thing for Corbin lolol. Good guys helping their coworkers get over, gotta love it

    I remember Kevin Nash yelling out "SIDESLAM" during a huge multi wrestler brawl at the end of a WCW event. As a kid I always knew wrestling was scripted, but I was much more able to suspend my disbelief until that moment lol.

    Spot calling being heard isn’t a sin anymore! So wrestlers don’t choreograph the match backstage anymore they call it on the fly! It’s live theatre and we all know it so they don’t worry about exposing the “work” as much as they once had to!!!

    Weirdly I don't pick up on wrestlers calling spots during matches. Only after it's pointed out do I notice it.
    That said it's fairly obvious when they're setting things up during stuff like rest holds or passing info through the ref. If their heads are near each other for some reason it's almost a guarantee they're setting up the next sequence.

    Absolutely nothing wrong with this. If you’re a true wrestling fan you’ll have no problem embracing this as part of the sport. It promotes safety and makes for a more entertaining experience, in almost every sport people communicate.

    My favorite is from the triple h stone cold match featured here (the stunner closeline clip) At the end of the first fall (it was a 2 out of 3 falls match) Triple h lost to a stunner and the announcer forgets to announce Austin as the winner of the first fall. Triple h (who is supposed to be unconscious from the stunner he just took) yells about “ANNOUNCEMENT” twice then proceeds to say to the ref something along of “tell the announcer to do his fking job” before the announcement is finally made. Absolute gold.

    Even if I knew this 'directive' back in those great years, It's still woe's me and other viewers. We're so indulge on what the ringside commentators lashed out. The symbiosis among those great performers, their built up, the arrays of colourful attires draping those bulking flesh, the editors and all the crews really entertaining. To me by watching WWF to WWE back then, take me away from other's bad influencers of my youth....great appreciation to all these men and women alike they're rare pedigree of performers..
