Rory ranting to the therapist about her love life is hilarious, especially when she described Dean as "my married ex-boyfriend who I lost my virginity to" (although technically he's her divorced ex-boyfriend)
Ironically, Alexis Bladel (who plays Rory) secretly hates coffee in real life. In the shooting, her coffee mugs were replaced with cola after she couldn't stand drinking it anymore
It's more of a romantic comedy people...lighten up. There's no need for Alexis to be another Meryl Streep here. You wanna see her in a serious role/acting? Watch her in "A Handmaid's Tale"👍
I’ve always taken it as meant to be cringe, in a comical sense. Cause it is pretty hilarious that she’s gonna have to stop drinking coffee, then she has all that tissue 😂
Yeah, Rory got her first piece of real criticism and completely fell apart, committing a felony and dropping out of school. The therapist is right about her benefiting from weekly sessions. Kind of wish they wrote Lorelei as agreeing with him.
I realise Rory would have made a great operations manager/ coo eventually at a publication/a big paper or sthg. Journalism or whatever it is she was forcing to pursue wasnt a fit for her if we're being honest.
Isn’t it funny how therapy was still so stigmatized 15 years ago? Now many people utilize therapy, and it’s so convenient on various apps, including apps that run through insurance.
Even Rory can't admit that it was actually, "we stole a boat together" or better, "he stole a boat with me". Somehow, even in the telling of the story in therapy, Logan gets blamed for the boat incident. No sense of responsibility there. No sense of responsibility in the taking a break vs broken up debacle... Just poor blameless Rory. I love the girl but seriously!?
What a find, I never considered that!! Remember how she insisted on taking responsibility for the car crashing when she went out with Jess that one time?? Was she even driving the car??? Although, when she stole the yacht, Logan did mention that he believed himself to be a bad influence on her. It seems to me they both had an impact on her. Jess encouraged her to lash out it seems. While Logan encouraged her to put the silver spoon into her mouth. Interesting
I think ‘ I stole a boat with him’ is taking more responsibility than ‘he stole a boat with me’ . Because the emphasis is at the beginning of the sentence and therefore it is more active. If she says ‘we did it’ then they are both equally actively at fault, meaning none of them had more to do with the act than the other.
Love seeing how rory ranted about this bc I remember jess doing something similar: gone for weeks/months, or I think it was a whole year even, then throwing a sudden "i love you" out of the blue. Difference is, jess always kept running away from her and avoiding her while logan always came to find her and did everything he could to talk to her and see her. This shows how jess handled everything wrong with rory, to which he realizes too late later on, while logan did what he knew he could do best in the situation. Jess was nonconfrontational, that changes later on but ofc his timing is always off like seriously I like him the most out of rory's love interests bc of his complex character that I relate to in some extent but he has terrible timing fr, while logan is in-your-face about what he wants, he doesn't wait for anything and does what he can to get it. He communicates. Loving isn't enough for a relationship, it's a commitment, and so the dedication you have to have to work for it is supposed to be present at all times.
I like Logan but I don't like the kind of person Rory is with Logan weirdly she was more charming and level headed with Jess even tho Logan was a better boyfriend
She was like this with Jess but less extreme plus she had to take on more responsibility because of Jess so she was always this person you see it gradually grow through the series even before Logan
The scene with the therapist has always thrown me tbh. I mean, the res tof it is believable acting. But that scene?? Feels like straight comedy. Not that it's bad acting...it just doesn't fit...it doens't jive, you know?? It feels like it belongs on a different show
Honestly i miss Dean SM like he never got her in trouble nor hurt her! Idc if hes boring! Idek how u can say he is boring since he does all these gestures! I wished he was still in her life during these seasons
same! He was sweet, king, caring. He really did love her. I don't think he was boring at all. He had his own interests, and had a life outside of Rory. He went to school, worked, liked to do mechanics, played sports and still made time for Rory.
People love to hate on Rory because the first time someone told her she wasn’t the most special she completely broke down but like, of course she did. She was well aware her entire life that she had to succeed spectacularly to make up for her mother's getting pregnant and dropping out of school. Lorelei paid lip service to Rory being able to choose her own path (as if "you can go to Harvard instead of Yale" is a meaningful choice) but she believed it just as much as Emily and Richard. And when she chose to leave school because she felt like she'd lost her sense of self, Lorelei demonstrated that Rory only deserved love if she was fulfilling everyone else's wants for her by cutting ties with her until she returned. I don’t think Rory should have dropped out of Yale because of what happened but she was set up for failure from the beginning and ultimately only ended up hurting herself (your child not living up to your expectations for them does not really count as something you’re allowed to be too upset about unless they become like a serial killer or something.)
Question did she actually spend a night in jail. The reason I’m asking is because Rory calls Lorelai to pick her up when she is at Friday night dinner. (The same night Rory went to Honor’s party) also Colin and Finn mentioned it being Friday night. Did she spend the night in jail or only a couple of hours
Sounds like a case of SPES: Sheltered Privileged and Entitled Syndrome... Also known as First World Problems... Ususally can escalate to Generalized Anxiety Disorder.
Ouch...first half was funny but not the second half in regards to GAD. I have family members from a developing nation, still living in said nation with undiagnosed GAD. I think always expecting the worst because of extremely difficult life circumstances/poverty produced GAD in them...SPES is funny. But GAD is not limited to developed nations and privilege.
Given that we now know that the original series is Rory's biased memoir, I can't help but feel that Rory is misrepresenting this therapist. I bet he wasn't remotely this aggressive and confrontational -- she just wasn't able to ignore uncomfortable topics when he asked, and she hated that.
@@TheMarkmcr This was by far her worst cry on the show. To be fair, all her other cries are far more believable imho. The one where she broke down after going to her grandfather was well done in my opinion. Not incredible work, but it fit the tone of the episode I think. It seems by this point, Alex had been asked to portray so many intense emotional moments that made less and less sense in terms of the show that she...stopped trying so much. Maybe it was what the show wanted from her, you never know.
@@callmeswivelhips8229 I see it as rory not being able to rehearse anything properly (new situation for her), so she ended up overdoing it. Alexis's difficulty with emotional moments actually works quite well for a character that doesn't feel any bit of remorse
Oh I hate therapists like this guy, very divisive and not understanding. There needs to be a level of trust for the whole therapy situation to work. And you don't just jump in to the deepest personal things, clearly she's not ready or comfortable, she needs her own space and room to breathe, she'll be ready in her own time, and at the very least ask the patient what they want in the meeting. Well I suppose there's my TedTalk. If any of you wanna be a therapist out there don't be like this guy.
Ok I agree with almost everything she says and her feelings but Hun, please don't try to compare yourself to Martin Luther King? 🙈 Glad the therapist tried to clarify on that.
I like this scene showing Rory isn’t perfect when she first started I feel like she was unpredictable like her character in real life people are not that perfect and this shows she was damaged a bit like everyone else 😂
If she's an awful actress, why was she in the title role with Lauren Graham for the 7-year run of the show? Thank God you're not ASP🤔 Come on, this isn't classified as a dramatic series. This is a romantic comedy. Did Julia Roberts win an Oscar doing romantic-comedies? NO. She won her Oscar doing a dramatic movie, Erin Brokovich. Same here, when Alexis did her first really dramatic role in A Handmaid's Tale, she won an EMMY. Get a grip people!!
