I absolutely adore this character, i played every single game you can imagine, i never found a character as charismatic well spoken as Dutch, i miss him
Nah ngl I appreciate the fact that macdougal, while a racist, still challenged his way of thinking with his research rather than being racist out of spite like almost every1 else at the time (even if he did leave thinking basically the same as he left) 👀 BTW goated series
His final speech was supposed to be some kind of climax for his character, an understanding he reached towards the end of his life. Yet in the second game, he gives the exact same speech on the mission with the army, i never understood why they made it like that. Such a fitting end for his character, though, this mission. Its even better you played this after the second game, hits much harder i imagine.
I think it was an excellent choice and adds layers to the original game. Dutch in RDR2 is essentially a cult leader with delusions of heroism. Much of his inspirations speeches are him parroting back things he read in philosophy books that, at best he's only give surface deep thought to and at worst has bent and twisted to his suiting. Dutch at the end of RDR1 is a man finally seeing through his own bullshit and understanding the true meaning of those words he spoke so long ago, and can appreciate the bitter irony as to how they pertain to his own story.
You know, its really interesting seeing what John says about Dutch in this game. He talks about Dutch in a mostly positive light and influence in his life, and alot of the opinions he holds on the government is very reminiscent of what Dutch would say. Compare it to the end of RDR2 where he really hated him. Not saying that the writers fucked up or anything like that, just thought it was interesting detail.
One thing I don't understand is why the game has you use a gatling gun a gun invented in 1860's but in red dead redemption 2 a game that takes place before they have a Maxime gun invented in 1880's
Dutch has such a poetic and tragic ending, this game is a masterpiece.
Dutch Plan Der Linde never got to see Tahiti 😢💯🙏
