In the beginning, he was confused and basically commits suicide at fort mercer because he doesn't wanna hunt down his brothers. In the ending, he does it again but for his family this time and he is determined. I, not for one second think he 'failed' to shoot them. It was, "The day John Marston 'stopped' shooting." His ultimate redemption, for the safety of his family. It was all that ever really mattered.

In the beginning, Ross met Jack by the river. By the end, Jack met Ross by the river.

Since finishing both games a year ago, I've been watching millions of RDR videos, especially the funny ones. Some of my favorites are fake endings like "Alternate Red Dead Redemption ending (Unlock)" and "The Good Ending" of RDR2. I'll consider them as canon, I don't care 😎. And I'm still obsessed with RDR AI covers.

Having experienced this game when it came out, my huge wish was to have back that time with Jack and Abigail. Years later, the epilogue of RDR2 gave me exactly that. If you look at the free-roam at the end of RDR2 Epilogue 2 as the real end of both games, you kind of get what you wanted (as an original player). I don't know if what I just said mnakes sense.
