For me this is a game that I wanted to love and after my first run I even convince myself that this was the best DA but after having some time to process the game I was just feelings empty and frustrated just to realize that I was just fooling myself. At the end this game seems like something that just have to get out and then be forgotten it feel like there is no soul in this game like nothing matter. And to wait all this time just to get a just mediocre game feel so bad because I was hoping that BioWare, knowing that this could be their last game, would try to make the most memorable game possible but instead, maybe by fear, make the most safest game possible just to try to sell more copies and using DA just as a cash grab feel so heartbreaking.
I too find the dialogues to be way too simplified and casual most times. The "Discord talk" is a really accurate description imo. Which is why someone with a more 'refined' dialogue like Morrigan shines. Even in DAI, we had more range to dialogues from how each companions differ. Someone like Cassandra spoke eloquently. Then we have regional twang, like Sera's Cockney or Blackwall's Yorkshire. They also have their own unique deliveries, like Cole's poetry or Sera's 'made up' words. With the "Tell don't show" problem, I think you already hinted a solution with your note of Morrigan. For new players, some can be genuinely curious or don't really care. And adding the optional question dialogues would give them the choice to inquire or ignore, in addition to not drag veteran players with the over exposition. They did this in Trespasser, where you can ask Solas the whole background of the Evanuris, or go straight to asking what comes next. Lastly, the secret ending is such a determent to DAV. It pigeonholed the whole events of the series into a bad cliche, stripping originalities from each game's plots. Which almost like Bioware is not only done with DAV, but the whole series.
Yeah, I think giving us the optional questions would've really helped with the exposition. Options are always good! I think what they want to do with the secret ending can work, but it really depends on how it's executed (no pun intended lol). I think they need to be very careful with how they present it. When I first watched the secret ending, it came across as if the Executors/Those Across The Sea influenced the previous antagonists directly, retroactively taking away their autonomy and accountability. Later, however, John Epler (on Bluesky) clarified that is not what they were going for- but rather that their actions were still completely their own and they've only been influenced in a way where they were fed the right information at the right time, like how Bartrand got the information for the location of the Red Idol for example. I think I'm okay with it if that's what it is, but again I think it really depends on how this story is told if that's what they're going for in a next installment. (If there is to be one).
Failure breeds opportunity. I think it’s clear BioWare is no longer staffed with capable writers. Now we know Mass Effect and Dragon Age should be given to better writers.
There are 3-4 gigantic elephants i the room when it comes to veilguard that Bioware can't control Disco Elysium: Writing and choices never have been sharper in an RPG Cyberpunk 2077: Presentation and worldbuilding ( Night City is argubly the main character) Baldur's Gate 3: Companion Quests , Romance, interweaving main and sidestory, music BONUS: Elden Ring: Lore, feel of danger (all souls games btw) enemy variety presentation of Boss fights What's left is good but not a great RPG if the game came out in 2019 and did not have as much Joss Weadonesc writing it might be considert as great
Another part I would like to include in regards to Elden Ring is the hand holding. Veilguard holds your hand through everything. Not at any point does the game say "You got this. Go out and do this on your own" The game constantly treats you as if you are stupid and/or incompetent, there is not a single puzzle where the companions just do not tell you what to do. While Elden Ring gives you a 10 minute tutorial then kicks you out in the world and trusts you to find your own way.
My biggest problem with Veilguard is the actual story and how it ended, because I knew the game would be very rushed and potentially bad but I still wanted to play it fully for story and lore. My second biggest problem with this game is the non-existent fan service, as a die hard fan of Origins I was hoping for different origin stories to make me feel more immersed with my character and the story. I was also hoping to get some closure for my Warden and to have characters from previous games return and have an actual impact in Veilguard which didn't happen. And of course you can add here everything else that people wanted like griffon riding, swimming etc. Combat = Absolute garbage, you can use one ability every 30 seconds, the enemy AI is very limited and always has the same limited pattern, you will fall asleep mid fight and dread playing on Nightmare mode; Elgar'Nan was more non-existent than Corypheus and it was actually much easier to beat him ( on Nightmare difficulty ) than most demons Exploration = useless, very unrewarding, not to mention the fact that the game was so rushed and we didn't even get a proper exploration of Rivain, Minrathous, The Grand Necropolis and we didn't get to explore a dwarven Thaig at all Choices? What choices? Romance absolutely useless and unfulfilling. Overall you can obviously tell that the game was just very rushed and I just hope that this game's story is not actually canon and something like a dream or one of Varric's novels, but this is probably the last DA game we will ever get. We can only cope for an Origins remaster to ever happen.
The game was a mess. After waiting for a sequel to Inquisition for forever, they tried to destroy any connections to prior games, and that was a HUGE mistake. Beyond that, the writing was just piss poor. So many cliches like an AI wrote it, not a living breathing person who is thinking about how a living breathing person in this world with a given cultural background would act. Unless the next Dragon Age game retcons this one out of existence (and there is a way it could), I hope there isn't another Dragon Age game because they broke the world. It is tainted, and I would not want to go back to the ruins of a thing I loved.
Thank you for that video. I totally agree with you in regards to your criticism as well as your prais for the game. I'm really grateful for what we've got, especially considering the development process. I just wished there would have been more. More about the companions, more Varric, more Inquisitor, more Solas. I might add, yes even more about the antagonists. After meeting Elgar'nan and Ghily for myself rather than just hearing about them from a very biased Solas, I would have really liked to get to know all the other Evanuris as well. I'm secretly hoping for some ancient Arlathan content (I probably won't get, but a girl can dream). And I am so so relieved, we were able to get a happy Solavellan ending. 💞
Angry Joe's rewiew of Dragon Age the veilguard says everything i feel about this game! I have a love and hate relation with Dragon Age the veilguard more hate! I did 1 playthrough and i probably will not touch the game again! In DAO i did 6 playthrough on ps3 6 on xbox like vise in DA2, DAI i did 10 playthrough and i had different world state in! Bioware took away our choices period! I want to know about what happend to the warden and all of my favorite characters! And why can't i be evil??? In DAO i had a SOB mage that was a bloodmage ! The only nice i did was saving the magetower ! I crushed the elves sacriface connor in the fade so i could get the bloodmage power! I loved that playthrough ! In DAI your inqusitior you could choose what you did before your Rook who is he ?!? I really don't don't like him!
Oh boy, I do love hour long thoughts videos! No seriously I like fans really need to get their feels out with longer form content. I agree with most of “thoughts and feels” the only one I can never relate to are the Solas romancers (never did that in inquisition and just never had an interest). Though I wish the inquisitor could have more interactions with Solas in general. I really like how you brought up that the companion stories just never got explored enough… they just ended kinda abruptly or conflicts never seem to get resolved. Like how the companion-specific-boss-battles were climax of their story (which I also have issues with) And then that’s just it. Everything is fine now. Hmm. Once again I never romanced Lucanis BUT DANG I if he isn’t one of my favorites! With the demon possession and his complicated character, it just really felt like nothing got properly explored. It’s a good example of how unexplored and unfinished(?) the characters seem. Also, We really needed non-exclamation point times where we could just talk to the companions at home base, like in inquisition, where we could ask more about them. Anyway, I could go on forever! I’m akso writing down all my thoughts and feels about Veilguard as it just makes me feel better… may post it somewhere, may not. Just gotta get it out! Love your video!
The banter can still be permanently interrupted. I've had enemies attack me twice in on go and, the companions just didn't pick their convo up a third time.

Such a good video which sums up all my feelings about the game! I loved it, but... yeah. I enjoyed my two playthroughs (Emmrich and Lucanis romances) and when I put the game away for the time being, I was surprised how little it was on my mind. I kept thinking about Inquisition or other games for weeks and months after finishing them, breathing the fandom and everything, but with Veilguard it's different. I still follow tons of DATV fans on Bluesky, enjoy screenshots of their Rooks etc., but I rarely think about my Rook and my own headcanons for them and the world. It's making me sad and disappointed.
I hated the way that I felt trapped in my party choice because of the applies/detonates pairings. I wish that the party members could have their combos synergies reordered.
Amazing: Character Creator Good: Combat Okay: Level Design & Mission Design Story: Disappointing Companions: Mediocre Overall: good/okay Replay: No desire. One and done for me
My main problem with this game is that you are not given the opportunity to play as a character. In each of the series I had a party member whom I conflicted (Morrigan Fenris Solas) But in this game you simply cannot go beyond the "friendly protagonist" and this applies to almost all aspects of the game.
I will say the dialogue and story plotline was a little lacking with Veilguard. Nevertheless I enjoyed the game, the levels were just beautifully designed and so detailed. The interactions with Manfred and Assan were just wholesome and made the game all the more sweeter. Had Bioware and EA spent more time on the game and stuck the original plot Veilguard would have been easily the best in the franchise. I played as an Elven Crow who romanced Lucanis on my first run-through and it was a slow burn. On my second playthrough I played an Elven Mournwatcher who fell for our dear Emmrich. Both romances were so sweet. Currently on my third playthrough with my Human Greywarden Micah also romancing Emmrich. I'd give VG a 7.5/10. Thanks for posting Lisa.
i did enjoy the game but after taking off my rose-tinted glasses and being aware of the troubles they had making the game, its solid. ßand despite criticizing (or whining) about what bugs me, i like the game, but really wished it would get updates to be more refind, adding stuff to make it more round and complete like the comapnions... but as we wont get anything.. i like that we have closure, not the one i hoped for but...well. something atleast. aaaaand many more questions, space to speculate
I finished it nightmare. Given I was Qunari grey warden, champion spec. Even if I’m tanking you sometimes need Davrin or Taasg to take the enemies off of you.
I found the game fun as a action RPG, with pretty levels that were interesting to explore. Good combat as well. The heroes were too selfish tho; they kept focused on their personal issues all the time. Real heroes would have focused their time on helping others, not just helping themselves and their friends. That selfishness of the Veilguard left a sour taste. It was disappointing the new update did not add NG+. Still, it is encouraging that they are still updating the game. This means there is still a team working on the game, which in turn means it might get that NG+ everyone wants.
The romances were shallow and light because the writers were writing this game for young adults (early puberty 13-15) just as the dialogue is modernized for the same age group ( think about the reading level of the dialogue). Someone on the DA:V team decided they needed to reach a younger crowd! Go back and compare it to games you KNOW were written for young teams. You’ll see what I mean. Obviously a poor decision- one that will probably close BioWare.
I romanced Bellara on my. 2nd playthrough and Elgar'nan took her which ruined my romance with her I plan on romancing her again but this time Elgar'nan can take Neve😂
Every single aspect of this game is awful and to say otherwise is an abject lie that people in this comment section is just lying to themselves. The absurdly bad writing. The terrible dialogue The awful characters The agenda pushing that doesnt fit in a dark medival fantasy game The railroaded gameplay The "you can only be this way" gameplay The destruction of previous story There is no saving grace to this game and to say or believe otherwise is wantimg to push your own agenda because you WANT it to be good. The best thing that bioware could do is release a statement that veilguard was a horrible mistake and they are giving it to a group that actually cares about DA and gamers to make a real sequel
For me this is a game that I wanted to love and after my first run I even convince myself that this was the best DA but after having some time to process the game I was just feelings empty and frustrated just to realize that I was just fooling myself. The only saving grace where to thing the first one was the last act where it got better but it was to late and the few moments with solas.
That's the word, it lacks soul.

The railroaded gameplay
The "you can only be this way" gameplay
The destruction of previous story
