Exactely. You can ground pound while hitting any item box, a star item box freezes time until the star is obtainable so mario's ground point will continue after the star animation is done. A ground pound also extends mario's hitbox upwards during the spin allowing you to grab stars even if you're ground pounding slightly below them.
The problem is that Mario Sunshine didn't work very well as a Chaos Edition. I'm pretty sure PBG even brought it up when they were playing Sunshine, but what made Mario 64 Chaos work is that you needed to find ways to work with the glitches the game threw at you to grab whatever stars you could. Something Sunshine prevents by being too linear, thereby making the appeal of a Chaos Edition fundamentally flawed.
You could try doing the trick were you hit the block and ground poun right as you hit it the block and you will stay in the air and get the star as soon as it spawns. Hope this helps
@@jpluna001 are you really one of those people that are so sad that all they can do on the internet trying to point out typos. It makes me sad I'm of the same species as you
0:38 Theres a little trick that every speedrunner does. When you jump up to the block as soon as you hit the block you need to do a ground pound. The star appears and as soon as the cutscene is over mario will immidiatly port himself down to the ground and you get the star. This trick saves a lot of time in speedruns
I think if you try to ground pound in mid-jump, just before you hit the star-box, it should open the box, and then get the star in a single move. I've seen Speedrunners do that trick. Hope this helps and good luck!~
Mario extends a bit his hitbox if he ground pounds, this applies to Stars, Star Boxes and Enemies, so if you jump and ground pound right under or next to the Star Box, you'll get the Star.
The Ocarina of Time randomizer is so much fun I played it twice and it was a blast to play. I'd love to play it again sometime so hope to see you guys playing it soon.
Yep. And I got a great sense of foreboding of an almighty jump scare waiting to happen. I’m just glad it isn’t me who’s playing, cause I wouldn’t dare enter Big Boo’s Haunt at all.
There is a speed run strat, not very difficult, where you ground pound immediately after hitting the star box. The extra height and cancel of downward momentum means after the cut scene you are still touching the star, so you grab it.
Peebs: "I mean, Mario 64 master over here." Peebs 10 seconds later: "Yeah, that's Koopa the Quick" I can't wait to see that penguin looking Koopa the Quick.
@Peanutbuttergameplay there is an important exploit that you NEED to know in order to obtain some of the stars in this seed it seems. All you need to do is to jump with A. Keep holding A and than press B. You should do a kick. Using this, simply hold A and mash B to kick your way up hills that mario would otherwise slide down because they are too steep.
You know what would make this randomizer super amazing. If you could change your model like in windwaker. Like colors or even who you are. Like, I want to play Fox Mcloud in super Mario 64. Just an idea is all.
I know it's not a widely known technique, but jumping and ground pounding immediately before hitting the block on the slide would make the Star spawn right on Mario. Mario gains a little height while ground pounding.
There's a ground pound trick that speedrunners do to get stars in boxes. I don't think it's difficult at all. You guys definitely want to look into it.
@Nerdoof 14 oh and on that seed with the mirror shield for the egg at hyrule castle, I had decided to mix the MQ dungeons and standard ones... got all MQ ones with the exception of the ice cavern. All of the child stuff was hidden in every adult dungeon like the Kokiri Sword in place of the ice arrows in the MQ GTG
In case on recording errors; may I suggest making a copy of your save file before every recording? As in; before recording, back up your save data. Saved me time and aggro many times.

@Nerdoof 14 ah, one of those people who know every single person on earth good to know you keep an eye on the whole world i think i know the answer, though.... you see the randomizers i've seen are either small and get not updates anymore, or aren't "good enough" for those speedrunners most randomizers are based on speedruns and races, and so if they don't see any speedrun in there, you see noone talk about it if many coders didn't care so much about fame and speedruns, i'm sure we'd see some more advanced randomizers, and AT LEAST some that are on games that have no speedruns, or barely have them too bad speedrunners have the majority of the randomizers and such i'm sure that casual ones would get enough attention, too
If you jump into the block with a star in it, do a ground pound right after, and you'll instantly grab the star
Can confirm, this is a speedrun strat for all stars contained in blocks.
Exactely. You can ground pound while hitting any item box, a star item box freezes time until the star is obtainable so mario's ground point will continue after the star animation is done. A ground pound also extends mario's hitbox upwards during the spin allowing you to grab stars even if you're ground pounding slightly below them.
I was thinking this, but I wasn't sure if it worked.
Balibali 418 wait, but the stars are randomized so wouldn't it move before Mario could get it?

This feels a lot more enjoyable than the Mario Sunshine Chaos Edition :)
Chaos Edition is good once for shits and giggles. This sort of thing actually has replayability.
The problem is that Mario Sunshine didn't work very well as a Chaos Edition. Peebs: 7
Jeff: 5

PBG, like 9 times: "Dude you missed a red coin back there"
Jeff: "Yeah but I want these coins"

Actually, they don't really interfere with each other. A speedrunner by the name of UsedPizza proved that.

For the star box in the slide, try to get on top of the block and then ground pound it and maybe it will spawn where you are
The piano wasn't there. Now that's scary, where could it be?
I will laugh if they open a door and just suddenly get attacked by the piano.
It's possible. Speed run trick. Do a ground pound as you open the box. If it's in the same spot when it spawns the star is yours
ground pound as you hit the block to catch the star immediately, it's usually used by speed runners or people who hate jumping.
