I’ve had my R10 for 4 years. It’s taken an elk, hogs, and deer. All clean kills. I just changed string and cables for the first time this summer. Never had an issue with the bow at all. My only annoyance is the noise, but with all that energy being transferred in just a few inches of movement I doubt if that can be helped. I consider it the .30-06 of crossbows. Thanks for keeping us entertained and informed. Take care.
My Ravin is a R10 and the rare hard to get/find camo version of it. I have a bunch of crossbows of all makes and models. I never thought I needed any faster or more expensive to upgrade my Ravin model to another newer model. IMO there is a sweet spot where it's fast but not "too fast" causing premature wear and tear just from shooting it. I also have a Mission Sub-1 camo, Killer Instinct SWAT X1, Excalibur MAG 340, Ten Point Titian M1, Wicked Ridge Invader 400, Wicked Ridge M370, Centerpoint Wraith 430X, Barnett TS-370.....etc etc etc You can see where I am going with this. The Ravin and the Mission are my super crossbows. The others are all upper mid grade to mid grade level. I'm good for me and don't need any faster than my fastest one. I'm not breaking stuff along the way either......
I’m getting the sense from Rich, some people buy and collect shoes, ball caps, and cars…. Rich loves well made crossbows! Can’t wait for the review and which one goes out on the hunt this season😂
Congratulations on your purchase. As an owner and shooter of a R10 and R10X, one tip that I could pass along to you has to do with the crank clutch of a fully cocked bow and how to make the clutch last a very long time. A lot of Ravin owners with cock the bow and not stop until the crank clutch slips at its fully cocked position. My recommendation is to do this once, then while fully cocked, take a white or silver sharpie and draw a line across your trigger-box and onto the rail. Then in the future, whenever cocking, crank the handle until your marked line, lines up, then stop cranking. Using this method, your bow will be fully cock and you'll never wear out the clutches in your crank handle.
I have an R10 and 29X Love both of them. With all the recalls of the 500 models a lot of people are requesting and getting a 29X in replacement of the 500. Definitely going to need a press for that Ravin. String and cable changes are pretty easy as Jim will tell you. The last chance easy press is definitely the way to go . That way you can do a string and cable change on both your compound Crossbows.
Please consider doing a video analyzing the problem of crossbow limbs delaminating or splintering (and/or exploding). A limb on my Ravin R26 recently had delamination. Ravin replaced the limbs, but I now wonder if delamination will be a recurring problem or if my limbs will explode someday and injure me. A bow shop owner told me that delamination happens to some of even the best crossbows, but the vast majority of delamination occurs with the R26 due to its short limbs being under great tension. Thank you!
Fantastic bow you purchased there Rich! I love mine, it is a great shooting bow, my only complaint is how frequently I need to change strings due to the insane pressures created by this little bow.
I’ve been a fan of the Chanel since I got into crossbow hunting a couple years back. Really looking forward to some more ravin content as I have an r26x and I’ve always found your thoughts on the various brands of bows that you own insightful and honest. I went with the r26x because I saddle hunt and wanted the most compact one they had to offer (excluding the r18 which I still consider more of a novelty). In hindsight I wish I went with the r29 because the bolt protrudes out past the riser of the r26 effectively making them the same length and the carrying bag they sell for transport also fits the r29. You gained 50 feet per second and lost out on nothing by choosing the r29.. nice pick 👍
I got my R500 and it worked flawlessly. But i did send it back early and got her back a month ago. Its my favorite crossbow i own. I have 4 of them now in a variety of flavors. 1. Ravin R500 2. 10 pt RS470 3. Scorpyd SLP 165 Original OG from scorpyd 4. Excalibur Matrix mega 405. Love my bows but if i kept only 1 its my R500 Ravin. Easy decision for me.
@danshort10 Yes, a little bit but better than my 10pt RS470. If I had to choose between my 10pt vapor rs470 and my Ravin it's my Ravin every day all day long. And I do love my rs470. The size of my Ravin , it's compactness and overall feel I love it. I do have 1 thing and 1 thing I don't like about my Ravin R500 is the placement of the safety. Wish it was closer to the trigger. That is literally the only thing I don't like about it. Everything else I love about it. Anymore questions don't hesitate to ask.
Hi Rich, yes RAVIN has a major problem now but they're owned by a private equity firm from Westport, CT, Compass Group Diversified. At any rate, RAVIN is owned by VELOCITY OUTDOORS, which is a subsidiary of Compass. I bought 100 shares several years ago for about the price of the RAVIN R 10. And how if you hurry you can get an R 29 special at BASS PRO or CABELAS during the hunting sale which ends on August 28th. $1,799.97! And I love the fact that both the R 29 and the R 26 have a fixed, bridge-styled scope mount, it's not cantilevered! They also own Center Point Archery too. Nice review and I enjoyed seeing Jim again!
Heck yeah! I've been eyeballing that that Ravin 29x since Bass Pro did their promo. I'm slightly jealous that you now have one and I don't. 😂 Looking forward to the videos and the hunts with your new Ravin!
Good clit bait, Rich. lol! Love your videos and book. I had my Ravin R500 sent back in April and received it back from Ravin in July. I jumped on shipping it as soon as the recall was announced. I had just purchased my R500 in December and zeroed it. They replaced the strings/cables free of charge (I only had 20 shots through it), and the trigger was super light and crisp when I received it back. At the end of it all, I was super happy. Frustrating-yes. But I'm glad they coordinated with the CSPC to make it safe. It performed flawlessly the entire time I owned it, but sending it back in was the right thing to do for safety reasons. Only Ravin haters/trolls will say death to Ravin. And there were plenty of trolls when the recall was announced. I care more about how a company responds when there is a problem and don't expect them to be perfect - like your Burris scope challenges. 🙂 My dad bought a Tenpoint Stealth 450 model, and it is excellent, too. My R500 consistently chronographs at 506 fps (tested with Labradar) and out to 60 yards, it will hit a quarter ring every time.

As you said having this ultra fast crossbow does present a bunch of issues like over penetration making you have to buy high end targets. I am learning that you really can only use the recommended arrows and broad heads and nocs. Therefore leaving you with a super small selection to choose. Anything else shot out of at least my Nitro 505 will absolutely blow it up. Ask me how I know? I got bad info that said there other lighted nocs that they use (meaning tenpoint) would work on the bolts bought with the bow. So I purchased and installed on the bolts bought with the bow. 2nd shot it exploded limbs and all strings and cables. Luckily I was not hurt. And more lucky. Or should I say good customer service tenpoint fixed it for free I had just bought it when they first came out for 5000.00. Man was I upset 😭. But tenpoint came thru
I shoot Excalibur,it's simple and can change a string in the field. Im more of a vertical bow guy who shoots Mathews. If I'm hunting from the ground, I use a crossbow. End of story.

Or should I say good customer service tenpoint fixed it for free I had just bought it when they first came out for 5000.00. Man was I upset 😭. But tenpoint came thru

I’ve had my R9 for 7 years now. Great crossbow! I’ll never sell it.
Break out the hand crank... Hope that's the next video...😂 😂
Yeah, it's going to be an adjustment
Once I seen you holding the Ravin with no scope I knew instantly you bought it...😂 😂
😁
Haha he’s been a dropping hints in all his videos this month so I knew he had a new one just not the one he chose.
@@danielpowell3284 how do you hand cock a Ravin though?...😂 😂
I am surprised Ravin was saved by velocity outdoors.
I would never buy one or advise anyone to buy a Ravin.
I never would have expected you to do so LOL
Shameful clickbait....the r29x is the king and ravin is standing by the problem this is shameful speculation
Did you finish the video?
Did you read the clickbait part?
If the R29X is king, that's probably why he bought one! Thanks for clarifying that for us!
The description does say make sure you watch the whole video because there's a surprise in there LOL
I shoot Excalibur,it's simple and can change a string in the field. Im more of a vertical bow guy who shoots Mathews. If I'm hunting from the ground, I use a crossbow. End of story.
By that rationale shouldn't you use a recurve vertical too?
