- We get a lot of questions about how to eat honeycomb. Comb honey is a delicious and unique way to enjoy local honey, and this short video will show you three simple ways to give this tasty treat a try.
The first time i tried honeycomb i expected the wax to like melt in my mouth or something but boy was i surprised
Ooh, yeah. It can a bit of a shocker if you're not expecting it.

When cutting a honeycomb, it's best to use plastic or wood. Metal knives react with the honey and can give it a metallic taste.
Thanks for your comment. We tend to agree when it comes to leaving metal in contact with the honey for any extended period of time, but we've never had problems with the ~5-10 seconds of contact from the comb cutter in terms of any adverse taste effects. As they say...ask ten beekeepers, get fifteen different opinions! ;)
You got that text from some love that video
thank you ❤️
Between the tastes of metal versus plastic, I'll take metal. Have yet to own a wooden knife. Even the spreader I do have is too thick to actually cut rather than mash.

...honeycomb...
Well, I needed ideas so I needed to learn.
Lol
I just eat the comb, chew it up and swallow the lot.
It's very chewy and can contain small amounts of royal jelly
Ah, you like to eat the wax, too, eh? It's not my favorite, personally, but I know many beeks who do love it that way. Our combs generally don't contain royal jelly, as that is usually found residually in the queen cells (we use a queen excluder to keep the egg laying frames separate from the cut comb frames). I actually do like to pop a chunk of comb into hot tea and I don't mind swallowing a bit of the wax that way when it's nice and warm. Happy honey eating, however you enjoy it best! :D
It has no royal jelly
Is that hair on your photo? I thought it was on my cell phone at first and try to blowout that hair 😂😂😂 👍

I'm a scotish Apiarist and I've discovered a wild hive in a hollowed tree by the collapsed castle in my local forest, I've never split a hive before so I'm quite excited, your videos are very informative and I always look foward to more. Please keep beekeeping your hard work shows
Thanks so much! Best of luck with your wild hive--we've visited Scotland a few times and fell absolutely in love. What sort of forage do you generally get for your bees there?
@@oldswampapiary2545 heather, wild flowers and there is an unbelievable amount of wild garlic (allium ursinum) it grows all down the side of Lennox for about 4 miles, and when the sun shines you can smell a mix of nectar and garlic in the air
@@oldswampapiary2545 also where abouts in Scotland? There are very few commercial beekeepers in my country I'd love to see a grow in the community out here, oh and did you try any Heather honey? 😂
@@Lord.Smith.the.first. That sounds absolutely lovely.
@@Lord.Smith.the.first. We spent most of our visits up north (Inverness and the surrounding area), but also enjoyed a visit to the Orkney Islands and the drive north from Ft. William. Edinburgh might be one of my favorite cities of all time, as well. We did not try heather honey--but now I'll definitely keep it on on radar for our next visit! Would love to see more of the Scottish beekeeping community/practices next time. :)
I can't wait to try this, I've always been curious, and every time I see it my mouth waters. (Trained instinct?) Now, I can't wait to show my wife this video, the two snacks you posted were fabulous and I can't wait to try them. You could make an entire channel of content on what to do with honeycomb! Can you do some more?
Thanks! Happy snacking...
Thank you for making this, I watched some other beekeeper make a video of Ross Round comb that he was selling.
And my first remark was "What do I do with this?" when he showed it to the camera, and I would be lost with just the comb.
But that is because where I live, all the honey you go to buy comes in a can or bottle, you never see the comb itself, so it was a very useful method...
I bet that bread in the last option was tasty, the crackles in it as you put the cheese on made my mouth water... Yes I love certain types of bread :P
Thanks for your comment. Honeycomb is probably our favorite way to enjoy honey here at home. Hope you're able to find and enjoy some!
That third one.....BOMB💣💣🍯
One of our grocery stores finally has honeycomb available... I was actually in a jar of honey instead of just the honey coated comb in some packaging. I tried a small piece of it and the experience wasn't bad. I enjoyed it. I just put it in the mouth and chewed the wax with honey and swallowed it all. What I figured out though is not to chew the wax too long. It kinda balled up in small balls and started tasting like wax, lightly. So I won't chew it up so long next time. It did take quite a bit of chewing to taste like wax, so... But the experience was still good for me and I'm happy with it. I waited so long for the stores here to have it available.
Is wax digestible? 7😢😢😅
I have this same question. And what are the macros? 😂😂
I wanted some honeycomb for my birthday and I got some. It was so good that I ate it just a couple of days and I ended up buying another tub of it. It’s so hard not to eat but it is relatively expensive as I’ve heard a bee only makes “half a teaspoon of honey in it’s life”
Ha! Wouldn't that be nice?
I remember eating a honeycomb once when I was like 10, I remember liking it for some reason
You taught me so much in this one video. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!

2) With a knife.
3) With a spoon.
Wow! Amazing!
The wax is considered edible, never tried a piece of comb yet, plan on getting one off amazon
You won't be sorry--happy snacking!
Lewis Lanzburgh try to get it from a local beekeeper
It's chocked full of vitamins and antioxidants. Incidentally, if you suffer from allergy and sinus issues, try to find a local beekeeper. The honey and consequent comb is made from local pollen, which can help to build an immunity in your body. Might help. Just sayin'! :)
Thank you very much very helpful video I wasn't sure how to go about the honeycomb tasting but now I am ready going to try it out! I hope it tastes as good as it looks or as good as it looks watching other people eat it... To be honest it never tastes as good as it looks when other people eat it not sure why that is but very much my experience 9/10.
Glad you enjoyed and thanks for your comment. I personally am especially fond of the sweet/savory pairings (as with the dry salami), as it really seems to blend the different flavors nicely. Happy experimenting!
Yeah, you can eat the honey comb wax part, BUT, if you eat a large enough amount...it can clog up the intestines and cause indigestion.
Just got a jar of acacia with honeycomb and was wondering about how to approach this!. Interesting what you can do with it...I'll have to experiment with a few things. Certainly with the honeycomb in the jar, I can taste the difference...it's lovely...very sweet.
Please do more videos on comb honey, the more the better.
This made me so hungry.
I saw some at IGA today and almost put it in the cart but then I didn't know how to eat it so I didn't, I should have though.
Next time!
thank you for the video, it's very informative but i don't know how you can eat that sandwich
Because it's so very delicious! :D
You should really use wooden utensils with honeycomb- the metal ones can leave a slight metallic taste
Hi there, thanks for your comment. We tend to agree when it comes to leaving metal in contact with the honey for any significant period of time (i.e., wouldn't recommend storing any sort of metal implement in the honey container, of course), but we've never had problems with the couple of seconds of contact from the comb cutter/knife in terms of any adverse taste effects. As they say...ask ten beekeepers, get fifteen different opinions! :D
This is kind of like caviar, you’re not supposed to eat it with metal cutlery
Are the honey combs big?
Very helpful. Thank you.
Happy snacking!
i had it with a creamy plain yogurt and it was so good
Very good. Thank you.
Ive never had honey or honey comb im. Gonna get some honey comb soon

How do I store honey comb ? Do I put it in the fridge or put in the room temperature ?
We do not put ours in the refrigerator. Once the comb is opened, we usually keep it on the counter in a small glass dish with a lid.
This helped cause I just bought honey comb
Hi, just wondering... wouldn't it be possible to squeeze a portion of honey comb between a couple of big spoons... and then you'll just have pure honey, and be eating no wax, at all.
You can absolutely use a method called crush and strain to separate out the honey from the comb. Squeezing the honey out through cheesecloth or other similar material can work well.
I just want to know where i can get some
I have no idea on how I got here but I like it here
those crackers, I know Ive had em before and I love em, but what are they called?1?
I thought people already know how to eat honey comb. I didn't know there was a wrong and right way to do it
I don't know that there's any wrong way (unless you find a bee in there! :D). But we've gotten the question from customers enough times ("it's pretty, but what would I do with it??") that we finally just decided to make a short video with a couple suggestions.
@@oldswampapiary2545 lol
I personally never knew it was edible. I thought it was just for decoration. I just happened to stumble across an article about bee pollen, honey, and honey combs. So I came to RUclips to see how people ate honey combs so I could reap the beneficial factors.
I can swallow the wax right?
It's not like the bee poo or anything?
Yes, the wax is edible (not bee poo!). I wouldn't recommend swallowing up a big clump, but small amounts are generally no problem here on our menu. :)
I am having hard times opening it I have mine in a small box but can't open it?
Im your 100th sub congrats!
Great, thanks, and we hope you enjoy! Are you a beekeeper?

Yes
I eat it with a spoon and love the look my hubby gives me 😂
I’m eating cubed sharp cheddar cheese with honeycomb 🤯🤩😋😋
How do you store the leftovers and how long is it good for?
Great question--we generally store it in a sealed container (glass, plastic, etc) and just leave it on the counter to use. A tight seal is important to keep flies and other critters away! If you want it to keep it for an extended time, it can go into the fridge of freezer. It'll last a long time if properly sealed. Happy snacking!
Ok thank you that helps!
I order the honey comb and trust me they are exsensive for those little things some are 25 21 18 dollors it’s crazy but there soooo good

Some supermarkets will sell it, but if you have any local beekeepers in your area, they'd probably be the best ones to know who might be producing it nearby. We do see it in places like Whole Foods or other health food-types of markets.

So you can just eat the wax?
Took my first bite yesterday. Was a little a taken back by the wax.
It can be a bit much if you get a large mouthful! Did a thinner slice spread on something work a bit better?

but the wax can be saved and turned into beeswax right? i mean imstead of spitting it...pile it up and make bees wax lol? sorry sounds bad i know
That's true--if you wanted to save up enough and render it you certainly could! We have a video about rendering wax, actually, though it shows working with a rather larger quantity. Thanks for your comment. :)

Isn’t it hard to image that honey is bee throw up
well it sure tatse delicious 😋
4th way pick it up and eat it!!
Honey is one of the best super foods to eat in my opinion
You need to peel the outside skin of the salami/ sauccison first 👍
Will definitely be trying the last one 😋
I wonder if it is actually safe to be eating the wax at all other than perhaps minute quantities. Would think the wax would travel through the digestive tract and coat your small intestines enough that it would be unable to assimilate food particles. Colon too as that needs to be able to absorb water. I'd think eating any kind of wax would literally gum up our works.
Does not work like that. This is not exactly “Wax” it just has a similar consistency. Though I see where you’re coming from. I belong too.
I'll chew it 😊
I didn’t know I needed Ellen degeneres to teach me how to eat honey
She makes snacks like people with weed munchies
LOL! It was pretty late at night....
I’m not a big fan of spreadable cheeses tbf, only cream cheese lol. I prefer to eat it by its self and just bite into it
Why am I watching this when I’m at the brim of vomiting all over my couch after eating honey, Not even the comb I just sucked up the honey lol.
Or you can put just honey
ARMMMYYY
Where do u get it from?
The bees make it in the wooden frames that fit inside the hive. In the USA, you can usually buy it at a farmers' market, a specialty foods store, or from your local beekeeper.
I got a little box from Walmart, you should try it👍🏼
@@carla-cj6wu where is it from?

It's the best treat ever (in our humble opinion :) ).
lmao that’s not paper thin but okiedokie
My only problem is it’s just soo sweet.
That's true, it is quite sweet. Perhaps pairing just a small amount of it with something savory (like the bread and salami combo) might be a bit tastier for you. Happy experimenting!
And... where’d all your honey go in that honeycomb!? There’s barely any there!
We ate it, of course! :)
Seriously, though--if you're a beekeeper, you probably already know that all of your cut comb frames aren't always fully filled/capped by the bees at a given time. We usually save our more "perfect pieces," for gifts, sales, etc. That said, we thoroughly enjoy using the more imperfect pieces (often those on the ends of the frames) for our own use at home. That way they aren't wasted--and we think they taste just as good!
I never thought I had to learn how to eat
You'd be amazed at how often we are asked how to eat comb honey...enough that we finally just decided to make a little video!
It's chewy. So don't swallow the wax?
You can certainly spit out the wax after all the honey is gone if you don't like the taste. When it's cut thin (like in options #2 and #3), the comb is spread fairly thin, so the wax might not even be that noticeable.
I eat the wax
I eat it all 🤤
But isn't a honeycomb made of beeswax I mean it just made a wax bee wax that they used to make candles out of back in the Middle ages
It sure is--we make beeswax candles, too!
I don’t know anymore

I swallow the wax
Michael Anthony Hello, I don’t know if it has any benefits, but yeah it is kinda difficult to swallow it but I like the consistent of wax that’s why I do it. It just feels kinda like swallowing gum which is probably the only con about it. Stay safe too man.
Thanks for your message--we don't particularly enjoy eating too much of the waxy part, ourselves. We prefer to stick with very thin slices of comb if we'll be eating the wax, or else spitting out the wax after chewing a larger piece (after the honey is gone). I'm not aware of any particular reason to eat the comb itself, health-wise, though the honey itself certainly has beneficial qualities.
Happy eating!
