  • In Task 1 of the Paragliding World Cup in Brasov, Romania, we were blessed with the best weather so far - clear blue skies and puffy clouds. The task was set for a 76.3 km journey, with three turn points forming a zigzag route to the northeast. The optimal strategy involved a combination of flying over flats and mountains.
Today, the choice between flying over the flats or the foothills made all the difference. The foothills offered stronger conditions with better clouds, allowing pilots to avoid constant headwinds and achieve higher altitudes.
There were moments of strong climbs, reaching speeds of 3-4m/s. The lower regions proved tricky, making the mountains a more favorable option for connecting to thermal lifts.
The final leg to the goal challenged a few pilots, as it involved flying downwind at high speeds, with some registering speeds of up to 70 km/h. Once confident about reaching the goal, it turned into a smooth glide to the finish line.
Interestingly, many of the anticipated top contenders were not among the 37 pilots who successfully made it to the goal. And continuing the tradition, Nico Dinh emerged as the winner of the first task at World Cups in Romania!
It was an exciting and enjoyable day, with task setting that spread the pilots out and showcased their skills. After several rainy days, it was a delight to finally have such a great task to tackle.
Here's hoping for more thrilling tasks in the days to come! Stay tuned for the next adventures in the Paragliding World Cup!
