Your illustrator put the batteries in backwards. Look in electrical design the + end of a battery is the source of current and the - is the sink. Work is done by the negatively charged electrons moving from the + end of the battery to the positively charged - end. You can thank Benjamin Franklin and his misunderstanding of capacitors for electrons being classified as the "negative" charge.
Andres Irarragorri The Electric Eel's torso has the 3 electric organs, the, high voltage, the low voltage and the sensory organs What happens when the eel attacks isn't so much like a battery and electric circuit as it is a lightning bolt. Instead of however clouds build up charge, the eel uses food energy to prime the organs and then releases it all at once, like lightning the electricity just wants to hit the ground and disperse and living things happen to make great conductors and the eel has decided to sit on you. TL;DR the eel is pushing the electricity from inside and in the back to the outside and in the front and the electricity just goes ground from there. P.S. that was a fun little research project, I didn't know some of that before.
confiscator If we both mean that guy from 19th century, then he's certainly german (he was born in Germany, or Kingdom of Prussia at the time). If not, then whoever you mean has accent that is too subtle for me (not a native speaker) to notice. Anyway, I prefer German English over German. And when I think about it, I don't really see myself loving that accent after listening to it for much longer.
I don't follow the explanation. Why did they use the horses? To clear the charge of the eels or? I'm sorry but I completely miss the reason for using this way.
That is a non-answer, you can't say "just because" to explain how something works. There is a reason why a blowtorch doesn't melt its metal nozzle. There's a reason why snakes don't die from the venom they have inside them. And there are reasons your stomach can withstand stomach acid, and why eels don't die from their electric shock.
I recently joined Sci-Fri, I'm pleasantly surprised how just great and right it is. Not too long, not too short, informative, entertaining.
Welp, I wish I didn't know that people once forced horses to be killed by electric eels. Add that to the list of horrible things about humanity.
Holy hell do you guys make great videos.
this channel needs more subs
for your captions, I believe the [inaudible] portion for humboldt's journal entry is gymnoti. :)
so ur telling me an eel can charge my vlog camera?
*BUYS EEL INSTANTLY*
HA! I Don't need to waste 40$ on my charger!
Are they essentially defending the residual pool from being drunk by livestock?
Get it? Shocking.
I wonder if protists also zapped by the electric shock of an eel? Hmmm....

OMG Great great catch. We will put a note on the video and the caption!

Can their bodies act like a capacitor? Hold charge then release? Is it a conscious action? Or involuntary?
Electric eels are dope
0.31 Was shocked by the experience...no way
Wow. That German accent is simultaneously schooled and awful.
confiscator I actually love it :D It's weird, but Germans speaking English sound better than Germans speaking German
I might be with you otherwise, but this is a North American speaking English with a "German" accent, and it makes the ears itch. :/

SolarEdge weekly update brought me here

L3vines the horses would attract the eels because the eels attacked them in order to protect the pond
designated eeling pools
lolled my ay off at the humbolt thing
Eelectrik, Discharge!
Josh Adams ty for activating my motor drive.
o nice
Why doesn't the eel also get electrocuted?
Cause it's just made like that. it's like asking why it's the acid in your stomach not burning your stomach

timhead4640 Ofcourse there is a reason
And the reason is what I asked for in the first place! =]
I don't know the exact reason, but they can accidentally shock and kill themselves
I would how the eels taste...
iM EELING ATTACKED RIGHT NOW!!!!!!
First time I have ever been offended by one of those horrible fake German accents.
