  • It was time to spend a little bit more and get a board beyond the beginner skill level. After tons of research, and consulting my riding partner, I decided to go with the CAPiTA Defenders of Awesome 159 Wide Snowboard.
    In this video I unbox my new CAPiTA Snowboard, give some product shots, take it for a test run at Stevens Pass, and give my concluding thoughts on this board and everything about it. Hope you enjoy and find this helpful!

    Just ordered a more advanced board for myself too! Did your old board have camber like the DOA does? I’m coming from a GNU hybrid rocker kind of board to a board that’s closer to full camber and curious on how fast I’ll get used to it

    • @fitzthegreat
      @fitzthegreat  Год назад +1

      My old board was a straight beginner board that had quite a big of flex and was like 80% rocker. For me personally getting the DOA I just realized how long I’d been riding a board way below my skill level. Hope this helps!

    • @fitzthegreat
      @fitzthegreat  2 года назад +2

      Personally from your scenario you described I wouldn’t recommend this board for you. This board is really great for more intermediate riders who are looking for all mountain as well as airs in the park. From what you are describing you could spend a lot less $$ on a board that meets your needs. For example I think you wouldn’t like the edges on this board as a beginner. We all hate catching an edge haha. You should check out the Yes. Basic Snowboard or the Salomon Pulse. Those boards have great control and are way more forgiving. Hope this helps!

      @@fitzthegreat Thanks for your super duper quick response! I was just thinking of getting a traditional cambered board to have a good foundation rather than hybrid or rocker profiles. Any such boards recommended? Capita Pathfinder?

    • @fitzthegreat
      @fitzthegreat  2 года назад

      @@dpj9421 If you feel like you're ready to take it to a level just above a beginner, then actually yeah the Pathfinder would be a great choice because it's actually hybrid camber, but leans a little more camber heavy. However, from the reviews I've seen it's still forgiving. Might not be a bad choice to go this route because this board will probably last you for a long time in terms of it's abilities. If you're really new and you are only concerned with foundation, go with one of the boards I previously recommended or a similar more beginner oriented board. Also...try and buy your board from REI so you can return it up to 1 year even if you've beat the hell out of it. If you get the Pathfinder and feel like it's too much camber, return it for something else!

    How do you feel about the wider platform? I'm around 5'11" and a ~10/10.5 boot... and I like more of an all mountain type of board. Almost thinking something like a 157W would be ideal... not sure if they offer that exact spec, but something like that.

    • @fitzthegreat
      @fitzthegreat  8 месяцев назад +1

      Being someone with big clunky feet (size 12) I loved the switch to the wide. It totally changed a lot for me in terms of stability and not feeling like my toes were going to dip into the snow every time I carved. A 10/10.5 you will probably be good with the standard width, but I'm no expert and can't say for sure!

    I think you might be me..! I’ve been riding for a long time but only annual trips for a week or two. I have had my own Atomic Cold Smoke since 2007 or 8, Burton custom bindings and 32 Boa boots all from the same year. The board is quite heavy and stiff but has been ok. Everything else needs replacing now so I picked up a DOA and paired it with the new Burton step on boots and bindings… with such a jump I’m hoping I really see and feel a big difference.
    Hence seeking confirmation bias type reviews lol!

Advantage - no heel or toe drag, stability like you can’t imagine. Speed with a race grind. Both my Doneks took me to a new level too. I know what you mean. Happy shredding.
