I relate to the Great Library so much. Me and my friend constantly compete over who gets it first, I'll let my people starve for 25 turns to get the Great Library
Wtf I’m 22 and played civ 3 as a pirated copy at 9-10 years old. Was one of my favorite games, with minecraft for building cities or role play survival
My friends and I are currently switching to Civ 6, after Civ V got boring, when diplomatic victory became too OP in our matches against each other. Overall I prefer Civ V, but I have to admit, Civ 6 is much more diverse in the different victory options. Religious victory finally is a thing
Civ 5 was better for balance. In Civ 6, if you know the busted strats, you can just dominate every game and even if every mediocre player in the game teams up on you, you still win handily. At least in Civ 5, a steamroller could get crunched by an alliance, even if their armies were more primitive.
@@BenjiQ575 I'm not sure if I would agree on that. Being able to repel multiple other players in Civ 6 makes me feel really powerful and like this big power everyone fears. I find it also possible in Civ 5 to successfully stand against a hostile alliance. That's up to personal preference I guess
MY group went back to Civ 5 simply because most of us are rusty in 6, and the one dude who isn't rusty basically gets an automatic win every time. Meanwhile, we all have Civ 5 practically printed onto our DNA at this point, so we all remember the strats fairly well. Even those of us who haven't played for years. Makes it more about the diplomacy and scheming between players, rather than meticulously planning how to maximize mechanical bonuses. This is further aided by how important it is to exchange luxury resources in 5. Though, civ 6 is technically a better game once you get good at it, and civ 5 gets a bit boring and predictable if you play it too much. But we don't play enough these days for that to matter.
When the video is so good that I'm now stuck racking my brain so I can try to remember who among my friends plays Civ....so I can forward this to them.
great video and for the record if 2 or more players had 1 turn left on a wonder, it would go to whomever has the most excess production ei 116/120 with +10/turn (6 over) would win over 112/120 with +11/turn (3 over)
I actually really enjoy the district system and the fact that you get no happiness penalties for settling new cities in Civ 6. It was hard to transition from 5 to 6, but 5 actively discourages wide empires and encourages tall empires instead, so I find Civ 6 to appeal to my playstyle more.
@Luca B. That's why you gotta choose districts correctly in the early game, so your infrastructure also scales enough to make that a relatively unimportant issue. Also settle spam earlier.
That's why I modded the hell out of civ 5. Basically removed happiness, the congress, and limited warmongering penalties and the game became super fun.
@@Dap1ssmonk if you have friends to play with, get Lekmod. Revamps and rebalances the game for multiplayer, adds new buildings, units, tonnes of new civs
With the unpacking of cities, I just can’t go back to V. V is very good mind you, but the districts system adds so much more diversity and flexibility to the game. Not to mention the sprawling cities look all around prettier. Diplo victory in VI is dog water though.
I agree completely. It took some getting used to, but I can’t go back to the one tile city. It adds so much complexity to the game, and seeing all your wonders sprawl out is awesome. Diplo victory is even worse than in civ 5, which is saying something .
If civ vi allowed the game to be played tall and not purely wide I would agree that it's better. Also arguably worse, the production balance in 6 is terrible, why build a warrior for 6 turns when you can get a settler for practically the same, and a new tech in 3 turns, the only way to play it is epic+ speed or else your troops become obsolete by the time they reach an enemy's borders.
The Great Library is a noob trap, never build it! The free tech does very little to speed up the early game, it doesn't give you much extra science, it doesn't count for Korea, the specialist slots are irrelevant at that point in the game, the great scientist point is the only relevant part that will scale later in the game, and it takes valuable production when you should be making a granary + library instead. Not to mention the time could be spent on a settler at 4 pop, which will be so much more effective later for science. If you *really* want an early wonder, make the Temple of Artemis. The food bonus is national, multiplicative, effects food in total rather than just surplus like most bonuses, and the extra population it brings in a wide empire is worth so much more science than The Great Library. Not to mention if you have Camel Archers, Chu-Ko-Nu, Keshiks, Longbowmen, or any of the other great ranged units, you get extra production speed for them.
@@idman4081 In the 1/10 multiplayer games where you actually get the GL and didn’t waste time trying to build it, it’s almost acceptable. Not to mention the AI consistently get it by turn 30 on any difficulty higher Immortal.
Video idea: 3 presidents have different ideologies and the fourth has to choose which one, and each ideology results in different quips depending on who picked it. Then it turns out the one who picked autocracy has low happiness and their empire is in revolution and has to switch.
Bush: "So which one should I pick?" Obama: "Pick Freedom or not, I don't really care when I can buy Spaceship parts before you." Biden: "Pick Order, it's the best if you don't have a specific victory in mind, you just wanna win." Trump: "Only pussies pick anything besides Autocracy. In fact, don't pick it it'll make winning easier for me." Trump: "Why isn't Police State working? I should have more happiness!" Obama: "You can only build Courthouses in conquered cities, Donald. You only took over two City-States." Trump: "Fuck you Obama! This just means I can wage war without worrying about happiness!" Bush: "So which one should I pick?"
