- The AC that came with our class B RV was so loud. We could not take it any more. We switched to a quieter AC and we have been very happy with it. In this video we are showing the noise level of the previous loud AC and the new quieter AC. We are also showing you the cost of the quieter AC and the installation fee.

I just a week or so ago finished the installation of a Houghton/RecPro 9500 with the heat pump option, on my Bigfoot 21FB trailer. It replaced a Dometic Penguin (which is probably what you had) and the Dometic has broken a refrigerant line, so it was dead and not repairable. I am yet to take the trailer out camping but the unit really works nicely and is indeed, very quiet.

We are really happy that we switched to the quieter AC. We have to use the AC a lot this summer with the high heat and humidity.
10 decibels may seem small but the decibel scale is logarithmic, a 10 dB reduction in hearing means that a sound would need to be 10-times more intense to evoke the same perception. That’s a significant reduction in noise for you. I’m glad you swapped out the A/C. Take care on the road.
"I can't hear you !!! " was what our youngest daughter said when she was in our RV with the AC on. The loud AC put her in a grumpy mood and it did the same thing to us.
New AC unit - that’s a significant mod - good for you! But don’t you miss the little green ‘ghost in the machine’ light? That’s our night light!
Hahaha. You are too funny !! No!! we do not miss the little green 'ghost in the machine' light. That made me think of the Rocky Neck video, the first time we noticed the green light from the AC.

Hi Maureen. No, you cannot use the AC when plugged into a regular 15 amp household outlet. It has to be plugged into 30 amp shore power. You can also use the AC with the generator running. So far we have been happy with the unit and the install. It is nice to be able to hear each others conversation when the unit is running.

Hi Sadie. The AC cannot be used through the lithium batteries. It can only be used with shore power or the generator.
I would really like the Ontour 2.2 if it had bigger batteries, a 3,000-watt inverter, and be able to run everything off of it. I don't want to have a generator or have to plug into use the AC, etc. Winnebago can do it, why can't Pleasure-Way?
If you have not already, please join Pleasure-Way Owners and Wannabees Facebook group and do a search if AC can run on batteries or you can post a question. Are you able to turn off the white led temperature numbers on the ac unit? (At night they would be glowing and annoy me)
Hi Brad. After your question, we were going to search if there is a way to turn the temperature display off. That's when I (Thavone) checked the remote control. Oh my goodness, there is a display button that we can press to turn the temperature display number on or off. We did not realize we had that option until your question. We have been covering the temperature number display with a dark blue painting tape. Thanks to your question, we just removed the tape. FYI, we have the smallest AC of this brand. We are finding that when it gets to be 100 degrees or more, the AC will keep the bedroom area comfortable , but struggle to also keep the front area cool even with a clip fan blowing air towards the front. If you have room on your roof and funding, try to go up a size or two bigger.

Looking to add a second one! I think this extra little one is all we need 🙂 also trying to run both on a Cummins onan 4000w generator

Hello. I am looking to replace the AC unit in my 2024 On-tour 2.0 as well. Are you still happy with your decision to replace your AC unit with the Houghton Belair 2800/Rec Pro? Have you heard if there are now upgrade units that would fit on the roof of our RV's?
Hello. We are still happy with our decision to replace our AC unit. Houghton Belair 2800/ Rec Pro is no longer available. It has been replaced with 2801. Our 2800 fit our roof perfectly. You will need to double check the measure of 2801 to be sure.

@@tdadventures Thank you. I guess my main concern is that since I have a pet, I'd need to run my AC off the Lithium batteries, when not plugged into shore power. And if I'm understanding it correctly, you cannot do that with the RecPro AC.
@@user-eb9hv8kc8qWe run our Houghton AC (purchased from RecPro), off of our lithium batteries with no issues. However, the Houghton does not connect into the Spyder control panel. It has a remote to control on/off, temperature setting, fan speed, and so on. When on, the fan runs continuously, and the compressor kicks in to cool when the selected temperature is exceeded. And then back to just fan when the temperature cools back down to the selected temperature.

I install mine 9500 but’s on my Roadtrek Agile I have 600 amps lithium bank we sleep from 8:00 pm at nite to 8:00 am, use 60% this is the a/c the refrigerator and an electric cooler one small fan Florida weather, a/c set at 75 degrees.
Oh wow. That's so amazing to hear. Did you install the 600 amps lithium bank yourself? We are looking to upgrade our batteries to run the a/c. Do you have any recommendations?

We've been wanting to do this on our OnTour 2.0 (2021.5), also. The diagram we have for our roof shows that it will JUST fit.. but maybe extending over about 1/4 inch. Does yours fit without extending over the edge at all? Thanks...
The outside unit fits without extending over the edge at all. We are happy that we can sleep with the quieter AC at night where we could not before. The new AC keeps the RV in the back comfortable always, but not the front if the temperature is close to 100 degrees, on those days, we do wish we have a bigger unit. We will have a video answering all the questions about the quieter AC on July 15, 2023. Be sure to check back then.

No, we cannot run the AC with the batteries. The AC can only be run by shore power or with a generator running.
@@tdadventures There are rigs out there that CAN run the AC without a generator wonder why PW doesn't have that.
@@intuitiveinspiredart4366 you ask a very good question. There are some Pleasure Way owners that have made changes to their batteries to be able to run the AC. Could be the stock coach batteries cannot support the electrical requirements of the AC unit.
