While I agree, you have to wonder if they would get in trouble with the Golden State basketball franchise for trademark infringement. While it's true that we have football and baseball Giants and Cardinals, those predated the litigiousness of modern society.

This issue of sports teams with Indian names is not new. I remember back in the 1970s sometimes the issue would come up. I can say that the several native americans I knew when I was in the service said they never had a problem with such names or team logos. Between 2005 and 2010 I worked with a lady who was bona fide member of the Cherokee tribe - yes a REAL Native American - not a fake one like Elizabeth Warren - who not only told me that she had no problem with teams with indian namesfpr sports teams, she also said "REDSKIN" was NOT a racial slur. The Indians have been polled many times about whether they took offense to "Redskins" and 90% said "no'. The Indians see it as someone calling you a "tough nut". If the Indians aren't offended then any one claiming it's "offensive" is bigoted. They are saying, "since the Indians are too stupid to be offended I'll have to be offended for them." This issue of sports teams with Indian names is not new. I remember back in the 1970s sometimes the issue would come up. I can say that the several native americans I knew when I was in the service said they never had a problem with such names or team logos. Between 2005 and 2010 I worked with a lady who was bona fide member of the Cherokee tribe - yes a REAL Native American - not a fake one like Elizabeth Warren - who not only told me that she had no problem with teams with indian namesfpr sports teams, she also said "REDSKIN" was NOT a racial slur. FYI

The Indians have been polled many times about whether they took offense to "Redskins" and 90% said "no'. The Indians see it as someone calling you a "tough nut". If the Indians aren't offended then any one claiming it's "offensive" is bigoted. They are saying, "since the Indians are too stupid to be offended I'll have to be offended for them." Not a good look.
