They chose a car that never changed its sound no matter what upgrades you did to it. Engine notes do in fact change for most cars since most assets were ported over from Prostreet

@@rlas Yes, you could probably imagine the development hell they had to go through, so that's why Undercover is a mess. Aside from the car models and car sounds, the physics are also from Prostreet but tuned to be more arcade-y (which in doing so created one of the worst handling systems in any NFS game)
You actually can blow your engine in shift 2, it happened with me in an endurance race in a Lamborghini Gallardo, and a needed to shift in manual before the red line
