This video might be an oldie but it's a goodie. I'm a 70-year-old granny and used it to help me replace the water pump on my Spotbot Pet. Being on a fixed income, this saved me $$$. Thank you Mike!
I was about to throw my Bissell Spot it out the window right before I found this video. THANK YOU for making this. Super easy to follow and fixed the issue. I owe you a beer.
I am so grateful for you posting this video. My problem was that tiny sponge. Before I found you I had cleaned it thoroughly and still didn't realize the problem was in the clean area. Thank you for the concise directions.
Excellent instruction! Very comprehensive! I am a 65 year old female and I easily took this machine apart, replaced the pump and put it all back together! Thank you
Well it turns out you saved me not only $129 for a new machine, but even $15 for a new pump! It was blocked, and I cleaned it out exactly as you recommended, reassembled, and tested perfectly. Thanks for taking the time to do this video.
Thank you, sir. Didn't have any clogs but the spring portion of the pump was not moving from not being used in awhile. The disassembly video was great. Ran the part under hot water and worked it back and forth like you showed and it works again!
Fantastic video! My Bot was a much older version though, so when I attempted to separate the pump from the y connector, the y connector broke into a few pieces. Sadly Bot is no more, but I learned a valuable lesson: rinse the hoses after EVERY use, even if it's 3am.
You’re awesome! Thanks. It took me about 5 to 10 minutes to remove restriction in piston. I must have missed you indicating there is springs and another rod inside after using an ice pick. My tooth picks weren’t strong enough. Thanks again. It’s running like new 👊🏻
The video is clear, concise, and easily understood. The solutions start with the simple fixes and continues to easy to perform but slightly more involved solutions. One of the best DIY videos ever! Great Job!
Super helpful! Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but the inside the plastic piece that goes through the motor is a piece of metal held in place by a couple of springs. By using a high powered magnet, you can move the metal back and forth (ie pump), which when combined with hot water helps clear the insides faster.
I agree with Slippin'Jimmy's comment about the tube inside the pump. Carefully remove the black o-ring inside the end, let some innards come out, then work with water and a toothpick or whatever to make the remaining inside parts wiggle / slide. Then put the innards back in and the o-ring and proceed as in the video. One additional comment: I had removed the hose from its locked-in-place button, and the machine wouldn't turn back on for non-hose use until I had put the hose back and latched it with its button. Then it turned on ok. The cleaned-out pump worked well after about 30 seconds of run time to loosen up other sticky spots further downstream, I suppose. Since I don't use the machine very often anymore, I'm going to flush it with plain water when I'm done, and store the mixed solution in a separate jar. Thanks, Mike M, for your excellent video!
Thank you for posting this. I was surprised that it was actually the small sponge on the machine below the solution reservoir that was clogged. Saved time and money!
Pickup a spot cleaner from the thief store for $ 19 did your pump cleaning because it wasn't spraying now it works thanks for your help wife isn't happy she wanted to spend money
This was great! My pump was dead. In fact, it looked different from the one in the video, which had me worried that the replacement pump we ordered from Amazon would not be compatible. But I just replaced it, and we are back up and running! Thanks for the video.
Thank you for this video. I have my spotbot fixed in under 5 minutes. (one of the 2 cables going to the motor was slightly loose, pushed it in, and now the automatic part of the spotbot is back in action!) Thanks a bunch. You saved me from phone calls and hassles with customer service.
Thank you so much for walking me through this. I just followed your simple steps and now my spotbot pet is spraying like it should. You saved me the money of having to go get a new one.
Your video saved me SO much grief! Thank you!!!! There are so many negative reviews on amazon for this product failing and it is my 2nd spotbot and after only its 2nd use had failed me again. I had left the unused cleaning solution in it from its previous use 8 weeks ago and it gunked-up the hose nozzle so it was just dripping. I cleaned the filter sponge pad like you said and it is fixed!
Yay! Following your excellent video, I just fixed my SpotBot...and mine was the simple fix: on the solution container side, I removed the small filter and cleared it of gunk, removed the solution container cap and cleaned it, removed the filter from the dirty tank and cleaned it. That's it! Thanks for making this video
Great video, thank you. This helped us find the clog and also the comment that you should periodically run only hot water through the machine to "rinse" the solutions out made so much sense. Never thought that having the machine sit idle for a while would allow it to clog valves. Thanks for posting this tutorial. Saved us time and money. Didn't need to replace any parts.
THANKS ! You helped me big time. I found the spring loaded parts inside the plastic pump valve had rusted. Once i got the pump disassembled, a light tap on the plastic valve dislodged the pieces which were then easy to clean up with fine gray scotchbrite. Back in business and it only took about 15 minutes to fix.
This is a terrific video. Great detail and very clear. Mine just stopped working 5 days ago and this provided the detail I needed to attempt a repair. I'll let you know what the problem is when I'm done.
Thanks Mike! This was really helpful for me to understand why my unit was leaking. I really appreciate you taking the time to put together this video. Cheers!
Thanks for the video. I have an older SpotBot, so the innards and screws are different, but the essence is the same. I was able to recessitate a very old SpotBot that we were about to throw out. We hadn't used it in years, thinking it was us. Turns out the pump was stuck. There's a piece of plastic in there that needs to be able to move and it was stuck in place. Once I freed it, formula started flowing. Thanks!
Thank you!! My pump was clogged, and after flushing it out, a little banging to loosen the debris, and more flushing, it's back to working like a champ. Great video!!
Thanks for posting this! Got my machine apart and fixed in just a few minutes thanks to this video! BTW, I used a bamboo skewer inside that pump to loosen up the little piston inside while running hot water over it.
Thank you for this video! Our valve unit inside the the motor had a two-spring-&-ring assembly, similar to a ball point pen. We were able to push the inner plastic piece back and forth, and eventually run hot water through. Our Spot Bot Pet works again!!!!
Wow! Your video was so helpful. I followed it and had to order a pump from Amazon. I just installed it and it is working right now! Thank you so much for sharing this.
Thanks for posting. I accidentally popped the o-ring off and the springs came out of the center piece. I was able to put them back in, but I decided to clean the part out without them and the worked the spring on the other end. Seemed to work well for me.
Hey Slippin' Jimmy, the same thing happened to me. I'm not sure how to put it back together. I'm guessing first put in the short wide spring, then the metal thing, then the long thin spring goes over that, then the black o-ring, then the white small circle thing. My model is way older than the one shown here, though.
Thanks.…. My scrubber wont engage, but the handheld trigger want works. Ps: newer unit and this will be the second time using it. I hope its something real simple I am overlooking.
Hi, great video. I was wondering if you know how to fix the Bissell Spotbot Pet leaking. I have one that leaks most of the water & solution. It sprays and everything else works fine. Please let me know. Thank you.
OMG MIke your the BOMB!!! Thank you soooo much for this video! I bought this machine at a thrift store for $30 and of course it didn't work but after your video it like brand new. It was just blocked....everything else is like brand new! THANK YOU!!
I'll be damned, this worked. I bought one used, I have no idea what they were cleaning (looks like maple syrup ffs) but I got the gunk out. I managed to puncture a hose, but that's an easy fix. Thanks!
Thank you very much for posting this video. Very easy, safe and step by step instructions. I was able to fix my spotbot with ease. It was just the first step- making sure there I cleared out the gunk on the top solution filter. Very easy. But, I feel if it was something more major - your video would make give me the tools to solve the issue - thanks again.
The exit end of pump attaches to a T connector that sends solution to automatic or manual brushes. Mine was clogged in both ends. Running hot water through pump and cleaning did not help. Thinking I need a new pump? Caution, these are 120V DC pump motors.
Thanks for making the video. Any advice for a spot bot that runs only on manual? The automatic system brushes not turning? Machine only turns on when hose button is pushed.
Try putting the hose away completely, locking it into place. My machine won't turn on at all for non-hose use unless the hose is locked into place. Then, voila! It turns on!
So you cut away before you take the stuff off of the motor to detach it and I can’t figure out how to get them off? I can’t pull them off, they’re on too tight? Feels like you missed providing instructions for an important step???
Chris Gd same thing happened to us! It was the t-hose that came loose and so it started leaking out. You have to Make sure it is snug and I recommend two people to ensure it's snug when you put it back. I had to have my wife help me hold it while I ensure it was snug the second time:) hope it helps
Thanks :)I actually found that the plug for the clean water tank was leaking. Bissell sent me a replacement screw on plug, and it kinda works now. Still having SOME leaks...thinking it may be the issue you brought up. I'm going to open it again and try one last time haha. Thank you.
Thanks so much for posting this video! When I have the pump out and am cleaning (around the 9:00 mark), should I be able to see completely through the tube? (Or should water flow freely through it?)
+murp2da yes water should flow through it, unless the check valve is stuck, probably soak it boiling hot water for an hour before trying to free it (see my top comment).
I had the same issue: it was lodged in there Solid, tried to move it from both sides, would not budge. THEN I took the Stanley FatMax to it with a metal chopstick. A few whacks later that sucker came out in pieces, along with the busted spring. Anyways, I fired it up and working no prob. However, the question I have for the peeps here: does removing that check valve hurt anything?
+davidsonnow ok: I just found out the hard way: leaking everywhere, technically works, but uses the cleaning solution TWICE the normal amount... so, obviously the check valve prevents cleaner from leaking... I'm ordering a new pump :(
Does anyone know what to do when the SpotBot's suction stops working during normal use? It works with the hose, but no with the standard brush mechanism.
Before you take your Spotbot apart, check if the hose/pump needs some water to prime it. I was having this problem and the solution was to add water to the opening of the solution tank because the pump and hose were completely dry.
For those who can't get working.. use really hot water (I microwave my water in a cup for about 1.2 min) then put in the pump plastic piece into it and let it sits for about 5 min before trying to clean with toothpick.. using regular hot water as shown in the video may not be enough.
i wish i could fix mine! i suck at fixing things..i gave a try but i coudnt unplug these things at 7:10 and i was afraid if i do worse so i rage quit! i use my spotbot only for sucking and i spray the solution with a spray bottle! :/
Really good video. WARNING. Don't forget to soak your pump in hot water. I broke mine trying to unstick the actuator which was frozen in place. I tried to force the mechanism to move with a sawed of nail and hammer (overkill I know, but i was frustrated). It actually looks like one of the springs got folded under one of the plastic pieces and rendered the thing useless. You can find the replacement pumps here: www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B001ICNOO8
I got the new pump. The plastic thing at the top of the pump that I was trying to move, doesn't move... even though there is a spring. I believe that soaking the parts would have worked.
This video might be an oldie but it's a goodie. I'm a 70-year-old granny and used it to help me replace the water pump on my Spotbot Pet. Being on a fixed income, this saved me $$$. Thank you Mike!
you saved my spotbot from the landfill! thank you soooooo very much. merry christmas!
Awesome!!😁😁

awesome. there was no way I was buying a new unit after a dozen uses. glad it helped!
Thank you, sir. Didn't have any clogs but the spring portion of the pump was not moving from not being used in awhile. The disassembly video was great. Ran the part under hot water and worked it back and forth like you showed and it works again!
I think this is the exact same problem I had - put it back together and it worked after the 2nd try!

You're a genius, my man! Bought this thing for $20 and it wasn't working. Found your Video and you saved the day. God bless you, brother!
The video is clear, concise, and easily understood. The solutions start with the simple fixes and continues to easy to perform but slightly more involved solutions. One of the best DIY videos ever! Great Job!
What does one do if the button on the cap to the solution reservoir does not depress?
Thank you so much! I fixed my spotbot thanks to this video!!!

Easy peasy, took me probably 20-30 minutes and saved me a $150 for a new machine! Didn't even need a new pump after all.
Thank you! I was able to get mine back up and running in 20 minutes.
Winner winner! Had to run a bunch of water through the pump before it got fully cleared but this worked!
Phenomenal Video! I had it apart, cleaned and back together in 15 minutes thanks to you. God Bless You, my friend!
This was great! My pump was dead. In fact, it looked different from the one in the video, which had me worried that the replacement pump we ordered from Amazon would not be compatible. But I just replaced it, and we are back up and running! Thanks for the video.
Thank you!! I fixed my machine after having it sitting in the basement for almost two years!
Worked!!! Lime was built up around solenoid. Thks a bunch
Thank you for this video. I have my spotbot fixed in under 5 minutes. (one of the 2 cables going to the motor was slightly loose, pushed it in, and now the automatic part of the spotbot is back in action!)
Thanks a bunch. You saved me from phone calls and hassles with customer service.
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this! We were able to diagnose and fix our plugged clear tube by following your clear and concise directions- good job!
that's great!
Thanks for posting. I followed your directions step by step and my spotbot works again! So glad I didn't have to buy a new one or pay for repairs!!!
I hope you and your family have an amazing life. Thank you
Thank you so much for posting this! Incredibly easy to follow. Had my spot bot up and running in the time it took to watch the video.

You are the BEST!!!! Thank you for posting this! You saved me from buying a new machine. My pump was gunk’d up. Toothpick trick did the job!
This is a terrific video. Great detail and very clear. Mine just stopped working 5 days ago and this provided the detail I needed to attempt a repair. I'll let you know what the problem is when I'm done.

Good job on your presentation.
Good job !! Anyone with a clogged solution problem can fix their unit by watching this.
Hi, great video. I was wondering if you know how to fix the Bissell Spotbot Pet leaking. I have one that leaks most of the water & solution. It sprays and everything else works fine. Please let me know. Thank you.
+Barbara Cook could be the check valve on the motor output. I busted mine, see top comment. You can try ordering a new motor.
OMG MIke your the BOMB!!! Thank you soooo much for this video! I bought this machine at a thrift store for $30 and of course it didn't work but after your video it like brand new. It was just blocked....everything else is like brand new! THANK YOU!!
this was really good- in contrast to so many other useless 'fix the sprayer' videos....I wish someone did one for the 3624 spotclean pro.
This video worked perfectly. My spotbot works like new !
Thank you for the easy to follow instructions.
I'll be damned, this worked. I bought one used, I have no idea what they were cleaning (looks like maple syrup ffs) but I got the gunk out. I managed to puncture a hose, but that's an easy fix. Thanks!
Very nice, found a little bit different setup and pump in mine but instructions were very close and I am up and running. Tyvm
Awesome video. Very informative and I was able to get my bot working again. Thank you!
great! no problem
Thanks for this, worked like a charm
Thank you very much for posting this video. Very easy, safe and step by step instructions. I was able to fix my spotbot with ease. The little white sponge is missing on mine! Will it work without that?
Thanks, got mine fixed. Had to order the pump off Amazon.
Thanks! Apparently mine had the same issue (though my pump was a different model) and I'm super happy that it works again!
Mike can you do a video on replacing the hose on this model?
I do not
The exit end of pump attaches to a T connector that sends solution to automatic or manual brushes. Mine was clogged in both ends. Running hot water through pump and cleaning did not help. Thinking I need a new pump? Caution, these are 120V DC pump motors.
Thanks for this video! I found the part for cheap at my local vacuum repair shop!
Brillant!!! Fixed my problem. Great video. Clear and to the point. Thanks!
Thanks man, helped me out.
I borrowed a friend's spotbot. Is there any way to clean the dirty water container? The previous person did not rinse the holder well.
Where can you buy the parts for these bissell's I have one in big round brush will not spin
great video, machine is working like a new one
So you cut away before you take the stuff off of the motor to detach it and I can’t figure out how to get them off? I can’t pull them off, they’re on too tight? Feels like you missed providing instructions for an important step???
Some angels are named Mike M!
Thanks, fixed mine by just clearing the nozzles, as you described.
Thank you for the video. Helped to fix our spot-bot.
great video, thanks!!!
I'm only having trouble putting it back on now. Everything I put the cleaning fluid tank on, it starts leaking and won't stop
Chris Gd same thing happened to us! It was the t-hose that came loose and so it started leaking out. You have to
Make sure it is snug and I recommend two people to ensure it's snug when you put it back.
Thank you.
Very good!! I like all the explanation on how to do this...
Thank you!!
cleaning the white part inside the motor worked. Thank you!
My automatic brush feature works but manual mode doesn't work would this still be what I need to do.
Does the button light up or does the hose provide any suction?
How do you take apart the housing on bissell poweclean pet
I used the hand tool for the first time and now cannot get the hose put back. What am I doing wrong? Tried a dozen times.
Thank you! It worked!!
I'm ordering a new pump :(
Thank you cleaning the pump out did the trick.
Does anyone know what to do when the SpotBot's suction stops working during normal use? It works with the hose, but no with the standard brush mechanism.
very interested in purchasing ...
Great video/instructional. Thank you!
Can’t open pump. The white plastic appears to be one piece. What am I doing wrong?
Before you take your Spotbot apart, check if the hose/pump needs some water to prime it. I was having this problem and the solution was to add water to the opening of the solution tank because the pump and hose were completely dry.
how on earth did you get the cables off of the pump???
pry off the ends of the tube with the needle nose of similar pliers using a lever actiion
For those who can't get working.. use really hot water (I microwave my water in a cup for about 1.2 min) then put in the pump plastic piece into it and let it sits for about 5 min before trying to clean with toothpick.. using regular hot water as shown in the video may not be enough.
Fixed mine!! Thank you man!!
i wish i could fix mine! i suck at fixing things..i gave a try but i coudnt unplug these things at 7:10 and i was afraid if i do worse so i rage quit! i use my spotbot only for sucking and i spray the solution with a spray bottle! :/
Worked!! Thank you!
Just got mine and plugged it when I turned the power on it exploded 😔
The belt on mine keeps slipping now.
That screwdriver looks awfully familiar!!
+Andy Clausen Hey Andy, I believe the part you speak of is the check valve, (on the output). see above comment
You sound like Christian Slater....
